‏Today's vetted fundraisers
After losing my business, home, and many family members due to the prolonged conflict in Gaza, I’ve been struggling immensely. My friend Mohammed in Belgium suggested creating this link to help mitigate some of my financial losses. I am deeply grateful for any support, no matter how small. I’ll share images showing the destruction of my business and home, which has forced my family and me into a cramped tent. We face severe challenges, including extreme temperatures, inadequate winter preparation, and a lack of essential supplies like medicine, food, and clean water. These conditions have worsened health issues among my family members.

Today, strawberries have replaced much of the citrus and olive trees in the strip, and despite the relatively small area of farmland used for this sector, it enjoys high economic and social value. In all of the ways that citrus cultivation has been targeted, strawberries seem designed to survive Israel's eco-colonial practices. Strawberries are able to survive on partially saline water, they have faster production cycles, are easier to cultivate and replant after destruction and uprooting, are more mobile after moments of displacement, require less space and distance between each planted crop, and enable farmers in Gaza's northern peripheries and along the buffer zones to remain visible to the observing Israeli occupation forces. As a crop with limited historical roots in the country, it adapts well and is highly versatile. The use of compost for the cultivation of strawberries enables significant increase in fruit productivity, saving Gazan farmers the use of precious water supplies and decreasing its need for the use of fertilizers.
Despite this, the conditions of Gaza's ongoing colonial isolation and erasure make it increasingly impossible for farmers to sustain their livelihoods off of the land, even with strawberry production. In today's Gaza, as the agricultural export industry is fully reliant on the Israeli permit system, strawberries are slowly being replaced with other low-growing, fast-yielding, cost-effective and high-demand fruits and vegetables. Indeed, as a colleague at the Union of Agricultural Work Committees, the largest agricultural development institution in Palestine, told me during my time in Gaza, the most recent crop to slowly begin its replacement of strawberries in this line of forced colonial transition is pineapple—with the first pineapple farm planted in Khan Younes in 2017.
Examining the conditions that make strawberry production more practical and fuel the transition from citrus production requires examining the ongoing Israeli colonization of natural resources that supplant and suppress traditional modes of relating to nature. Witnesses of Israeli neo-colonial violence, the disappearing orchards in Gaza mark its new disconnected reality. The transition from the orange to the strawberry—and perhaps later to pineapple—is more than a shift in markets and produce. They affect the history and identity of Palestinians in Gaza. The links between cultivation and national or communal identity are well-known and documented in other contexts, including their intersection with colonial nation-branding. But in the context of aggressive climate change the instabilities, tensions, and erasures that come with transitions in vegetation are growing increasingly stark. For example, in the case of the Swiss canton of Valais, global heating has resulted in the growth of cacti, Opuntia, that are proliferating on the mountainsides of the canton, encroaching on natural reserves and causing a biodiversity threat. Used to "seeing their mountainsides covered with snow in winter and edelweiss flowers in summer" warmer and drier temperatures have given way to what is named in media coverage as an "invasive species colonizing the slopes." Launching an uprooting campaign in 2022, the press release stressed that "this invasive and non-native plant is not welcome in the perimeter of prairies and dry pastures of national importance." Evidently the discourse mobilized is dominated by aggressive language of aliens and invasion, which contributes to the use of violent and war-like metaphors to push for pre-emptive and combative control. In the Gazan case, the transition, as well as local responses to it, are less pronounced and weeded through long-term colonial policies imposed by the occupation. That said, the transition to strawberry cultivation nevertheless carries a similar ecological, cultural, and socio-political impact. In place of the orange, the strawberry is surfacing as the symbol of Gaza, redrawing the boundaries of the identity of its besieged inhabitants. Whereas in the past the orange was a continuous link between Gaza and the rest of historic Palestine, with deep generational roots and a symbol of steadfast and continuous presence, the abrupt transition from oranges to strawberries distances Gaza from the constructed identity and vegetal knowledge production of Palestinian farmers elsewhere. Put differently, this symbolic and political transition at the level of fruit production can be seen as another mechanism through which Israeli neo-colonial violence reifies Gaza as an enclave: divided and partitioned from the rest of Palestine.

It's painfully uncommon to see posts about trans women & transfems needing OBGYN care, like, I see so many posts about transmascs being denied reproductive healthcare but I never see anyone talking about the same thing happening for transfems who need it. This is not a transmasc-only issue and it should be talked about more.
Shit like this happens all the time. Please do not fucking ignore it.
Tumblr media
This ^ is unacceptable, it's pure transphobia. Doctors don't always know best about trans and intersex patients, and yet they say shit like this. I've personally encountered my fair share of grossly intersexist doctors. Navigating acess to healthcare as a trans and/or intersex person is HELL.
Trans women with vaginas need gynecological care, they need pelvic exams, they still need regular checkups. Some trans women need nearly everything a cis woman does. It can be incredibly difficult for transfems to find a doctor who is willing to treat them AND experienced with transgender patients, and we should bring more attention to this.
Related, if you have breasts you need to get mammograms. It doesn't matter why you have them, if you have boobs, you are at risk for breast cancer.

Yeah you're right. It WOULD be pretty fucked up if you were a swan but you were raised by ducks and you grew up never seeing another swan or even knowing that such a thing as a swan even existed so you just thought you were a duck with something super wrong with it.

Suffering of my family ... please give us your attention
Tumblr media
All my family members are currently in Gaza: my brothers Ahmed, Osama, Moatasim, and Mohammed, along with their families, and my elderly parents. Ahmed's family includes three children: Qusay, Lyan, and Ayda. Osama's family also has three children: Yahya, Sewar, and Yamen. Moatasim’s family consists of two children: Maria and Aysha. Mohammed is 22 years old.
They once lived in safety and peace, each having their own home which provided them with happiness, warmth, and love. Ahmed and Osama worked as dental technicians, Moatasim was a delivery driver, and Mohammed was training to become a dental technician with the dream of opening his own practice.

Before the war, they led normal lives—visiting one another, going on trips, and sharing laughs and smiles. But everything changed on October 7, 2023, when war broke out in Gaza. This horrific conflict destroyed their lives, taking away their homes, jobs, safety, and dreams, and tragically claiming many of our relatives.
Tumblr media
Two weeks into the war, my family was forced to flee their home in Tel Alhawa, escaping south to the Deir Albalah area to save their lives. Now, they live in tents with no access to water, electricity, sanitation, or food. These dire conditions have led to numerous health issues, especially for the children, including skin diseases and Hepatitis B infections.
Tumblr media
Every day, my family struggles to survive in these appalling conditions. This has become a nightmarish reality. The funds raised by this campaign will be used to:
Provide Medical Care and Treatment: My parents urgently need medical support. My father has undergone heart catheterization due to blocked arteries, while my mother suffers from high blood pressure and heart problems. They require both medical attention and nutritious food.
Offer Health Treatment for Qusay, four-year child, who recently had a difficult throat operation, needs ongoing healthcare and speech therapy. His condition has left him struggling with speech difficulties, and he requires urgent speech therapy, healthy nutrition and Phycological treatment.
Tumblr media
Supply Essential Living Needs: My family is without any means of income and is unable to afford basic necessities such as food, water, childhood needs, medicine, and cleaning products.
Rent a House Before Winter: Currently living in tents, my family faces the prospect of enduring harsh winter conditions without proper shelter. Renting a house before winter sets in is crucial to their survival and well-being.
Your donation and sharing my family campaign can make a significant difference during this devastating time. Thank you for your attention and generosity.

don't like the way a lot of the discussions (on the attack on lebanon by the zionist entity) have the same language as with hamas and humoring zionists by going "they're not all hezbollah" "the people don't deserve it cause they're not their government" sort of sentiments like that would make it okay somehow??? hezbollah is a political party supported by a lot of lebanese people like in what world is it ok to attack the park workers or the public clinic medics and nurses like idfk???? but i fucking hate this language that is constantly implying it would be ok if it happened to resistance fighters in a genocide zone or public workers elected by the people just because some white fascist shitheads told them what violence and freedom and life looked like and now we're supposed to listen to these clowns as to how to move forward and how that world should look like i dont fucking get how some leftists don't fix their damn words is all im saying like fuck you if you think it's ok to further any sort of legitimacy in zionist violence

i'm worried that palestinian fundraisers have been slowing dramatically the past few weeks because people think their goal numbers are 'a lot of money', and ignore them.
so, as the one-year mark of this ongoing genocide approaches, i'd ask you to think seriously about how much money it costs just to keep yourself alive for an entire year. $15,000? $10,000? could you live off just $5,000? for a whole year?
since losing his job and his house to the israeli bombing, mohammed iwais has been supporting his 27-person family on gofundme donations equivalent in total to about $50k USD, or roughly $1,852 per person.
i am asking you to think about the reality of what this means for a family undergoing repeated displacements, bullet wounds, other medical emergencies, and now homelessness—in an occupied country that is being brutally price-gouged and cut off from even basic humanitarian aid by military border blockades.
mohammed's fundraising goal has not yet been met, and he's going to update his gfm page to reflect that as soon as he gets a stable internet connection. until then, there's really only one question.
could you live off what the iwais family has raised so far?
