Gaining and keeping an audience’s attention
Let’s recap!
So far, we have mentioned in our previous posts:
Studying your type of audience
What you are presenting (main topic(s))

The right things to do with your audience
But what about the things to avoid and not to do?
Don’t do it!

Here we will touch a few additional key pointers on what we should dodge when dealing with your audience.
1.     Don’t start the presentation right away. All presentations need a strong beginning and ending. You want to ease your audience into your main topic(s).
2.     Avoid making your presentation longer than it needs to be. Keep it simple, or you’ll lose your audience’s attention half way through.
3.     Never get sidetracked with side stories. Stick to what you need to tell them and what’s important to your main cause/reason.
4.     Don’t use unfamiliar jargons. Most of your audience won’t understand most of your jargons you use. If you plan to do so, explain what each jargon means for their better understanding and can follow along comfortably.
5.     Avoid reading from the slides directly. Your audience came to see your presentation not to see you read along with them. Keep structured notes (q-cards) with you so you can follow along with your slides. Also give eye contact!!
Practice!
Using these pointers from all our three posts are basics to gaining and keeping your audience’s attention.
Learn to practice and implement all pointers in to good use before presenting. In doing so, you’ll gain proper results with your audience.
Keep in mind:
your audience came to enjoy the experience too. Have fun with them! If they’re having fun so will you. And be confident in yourself!
We hope this helps you on your progress to gaining and keeping your audiences’ attention.
