It’s genuinely crazy how much bs people who keep bugs get from people. The amount of stomping or flamethrower gifs in the instagram comment sections is insane. Like imagine someone’s excited to show you their hamster and you’re like “KILL IT WITH FIRE I HATE ALL RODENTS” everyone’s going to think you’re fucking insane because you ARE. How does this attitude around respecting other people’s pets dissolve when it’s a bug. Grow up.

so wild to me that some people don’t know there’s multiple species of bees. imagine if there were people out there who only knew about chickens like. you’re missing out. you don’t even know about hawks.

some mountain bugs i found today
1) California Tortoiseshell - we actually saw like hundreds of these just going down the road. There were so many that one of them went into our car through the open window. We pulled over and I found some puddling next to a creek
2) Bee fly - not sure what kind but I saw a couple of them. Jarred this one to take pics but it was calm enough that I decided to pick it up
3) Yellow Velvet Beetle - quite a lot of these guys up there! All over the yarrow
4) Brachonid wasp - can’t go wrong! I did not bother her and let this lady do her important job in the ecosystem
5 and 6) Sagebrush Checkerspot - saw a couple of these, they’re pretty :)

Protecting trees might not seem like a public health strategy, but new research suggests it could be – especially in the tropics. A Stanford University-led study published May 28 in Landscape Ecology shows that in Costa Rica, even modest patches of tree cover can reduce the presence of invasive mosquito species known to transmit diseases like dengue fever. The illness often brings flu-like symptoms and can escalate to severe bleeding, organ failure, and even death without proper medical care. The findings can inform land use decisions and tree preservation strategies in rural areas, according to the researchers.

no one ever complain about wasps again i was chasing around a baby mantis and accidentally found myself very very close to a paper wasp nest that was hidden under those flaps you use to cover outlets outside and no one stung me. wasps going in and out looking at me a little weird but no stinging. can you imagine if a giant thing showed up outside your family home acting weird. i would’ve stung me if i were them
