Sylvie: You’re right, first things first, we have to find Mobius. After all, he did say I was his favorite.
Loki: *smirks* We were both there, and you know full well he was talking to me.
Sylvie: I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but he was actually looking at me when he said that.
Loki: I beg your pardon? We were in the middle of a heartfelt embrace. I may be a stranger to friendship, but I know truth when I hear it.

My favorite thing about growing older and becoming an elder fandom member is seeing people throwing fits over character hair length and color and being able to sit back and be like, -ah yes, this does not in any way bother me and I can take my pick as to why depending on my mood-
1. This is a show about our literal perception and understanding of the passage of time. How interesting it could be to digest this intriguing time-passage indicator as another layer of complexity to a really well established and developed story line.
2. This is a show that was filmed in the middle of a literal panoramic pan pizza. Maybe some small insignificant continuity issues for this fictional character weren’t heavily prioritized while trying to take precautions to keep real actual people from getting sick.

I finished rewatching Loki for the third time today (and plan to start it over next week because I can’t stop). There are so many wonderful things one notices upon these repeated viewings.
I love how we hear the sweeping orchestral love theme from the kiss during the tender scene in episode four when Loki and Sylvie have their moment by the crater lake on Lamentis. (It starts as Mobius says “okay that’s not someone stepping on the wrong leaf,” to Hunter B-15.) @thevibraniumveterans and @the-angels-gonna-play discuss the series music here so brilliantly. GAH, I love it so much.
I also will NEVER be over the tears dripping off/rolling down Loki’s face during his declaration to Sylvie in the final episode, right before they kiss. It’s just too much for my heart to handle.
This show truly is everything.

Love seeing music meta! Thanks to @thatgeekydame for sending it to me. This was awesome to motivate me to get these thoughts written down. So have a little extra meta if you'd like. =)
There are some very interesting things that happen with this theme throughout the whole season. We hear it about 5 different times, though time number 5 is particularly interesting.
1. [E3 23:16] It first appears on Lamentis during the time-cut transition before we see Loki singing his serenade to Sylvie on the train. It is just used as a transitional piece of material but the subtitles do point to the presence of the theme, stating "Captivating instrumental music playing". Since this is the first time we hear it, and the range of the theremin being used is so low, it almost feels like it was meant as a sound design choice for how this futuristic train sounded when moving, but it is distinctively the same 6-note theme.
2. [E4 10:07] This is a very interesting moment, because technically this "nexus event" isn't listed as a track on the soundtrack, but, it is actually on there. The music that plays during the touch is a direct needle drop from "Stop". The key is dropped 2 semitones, but it is the exact same recording. The theremin plays the 6-note theme and we move into the exact same sweeping orchestra melody from the kiss. (More on this in #5) It is especially interesting to note how closely this mirrors the Citadel scene where, after the orchestra melody plays, we see a time door appear. This time they stay together, but the next time they will be separated.
3. [E4 41:06] This is the "Pep Talk" track. It has the same string intro that melds into the 6-note theremin theme. If decided so, it could meld into the major key orchestra swell, but as we hear, it morphs into the minor triplets of "Loki Green Theme" when Ravonna prunes Loki.
4. [E5 43:00] Here is another play that doesn't specifically show up on the soundtrack (at least not that I can find). This is the moment right after Sylvie and Loki successfully enchant Alioth. The beginning of this almost feels like another straight needle drop from "Stop". We've raised it a semitone from the nexus event, which means each of these big plays is building towards the final play in the Citadel where it will be raised the final semitone. But what is most interesting about this track is that for the first time, we don't actually get the 6-note melody played in the theremin. We do still hear it underscored in the strings, but we have removed the theremin from the picture. (More on this also in #5)
5. [E6 34:25] This is the beginning of what we have listed as "Stop" on the soundtrack. However, what we hear on the soundtrack is actually not what is played on-screen. The main takeaway is the lack of the theremin playing the 6-note melody after the string intro. It should be heard just following the line "I don't want a throne" but the theremin is excluded from the background music. Like before, just after the enchantment, the melody is still there but it is just being played in the string ostenati, no theremin enters. I actually think this is a very cool and important takeaway. Up until now, the theremin has been used to signal when something is very "TVA" specific, or as we know now, very "He Who Remains" specific. It is used in other melodies for tracks like "TVA Inner Workings" and we hear specified theremin recordings of classical works being played in Ravonna's office.
This lack of theremin, but persistence of the melody in Sylvie and Loki's moments shows that even though their path up until now was dictated and made for them, the path they take moving forward is theirs to choose. Even though Sylvie sends Loki away, back to the TVA, we don't really get the return of that TVA theremin sound. The moments of Sylvie's regret and Loki's heartbreak are both underscored with this ongoing Asgardian string feel that has tied them together this whole season. Their path forward is together and they will have to find each other again to heal themselves and one another.
Once Loki gathers his conviction, we do get an electro-synth bass line, but again, not a big return to the theremin feel. This plays into the idea that the TVA that Loki is sent back to is not the one he left. Either because it immediately morphed into something new after Kang's death, or just that this is an entirely different TVA on a different timeline. (I personally lean towards the latter, but I don't know if there is any definitive info on that).

Sylki’s Theme Music
I don’t know if anyone’s talked about this yet, but in case anyone hasn’t, I will.
In large franchises, where two protagonists fall in love, there’s usually an entire theme song dedicated to them.
This happened at least twice in Star Wars - Across the Stars is for Anakin and Padme, while Han Solo and the Princess is for who else but Han and Leia, obviously. Composer John Williams wastes no time bringing this theme up whenever possible when Han and Leia have a moment.
Not even Dreamworks shies away from this - one example I can clearly remember is the first How To Train Your Dragon film, where there is a track explicitly titled Romantic Flight, where our inadvertent hero-to-be Hiccup and his crush Astrid are taken for a relaxing and no doubt romantic flight above the clouds at dusk. Composer John Powell also doesn’t hesitate to remind us of this theme both throughout the franchise, the series included. (Another might be For The Dancing and the Dreaming in HTTYD2 that’s basically Stoick and Valka’s reunion song.)
Now, having said that, I have to point out that twice in the LOKI series, there’s this little theme.
Titled Pep Talk, it first makes its debut in Episode 4, where after Sylvie discards the decapitated head of one of the animatronic Timekeepers, she proceeds to stand there awkwardly while Loki makes an attempt to get real honest with her. Though in reality it’s only a couple of notes, it’s being played in two phrases (0:00-0:35 and 0:36-0:50), by two very distinct instruments, both of them playing a mysterious melody in a minor key but in high tones, possibly to portray their romantic innocence and to give us a taste of what is yet to come. It only takes up the first 50 seconds of the track:

But do pay attention to the 6-note mini-phrase that starts around 0:36.
Because, it pops up again, in the track titled Stop in Episode 6 during THAT scene where Loki tells Sylvie all he wants is for her to be okay.
This two-phrase theme, which I must reiterate debuts in Pep Talk, makes its second but non-repeated appearance in the first 35 seconds of Stop.

The first 17 seconds are only a reminder of the theme that first played when a very nervous Loki takes hold of Sylvie’s shoulders in the Timekeeper’s chambers in Ep4, and then, from 0:18-0:30, it is also a reiteration, though not a repetition, that tells us that yeah, there’s something real romantic coming up. It’s pretty similar, because 0:30-0:37 is the lead up to The Kiss (you know the one) in which the entire orchestra is called up for a sweeping romantic theme. But it’s not 0:30-0:37 that I want to talk about. It’s literally the first 30 seconds I want y’all to pay attention to. This time there’s a quiet but persistent bass line, unlike Pep Talk.
In short, these two tracks (0:00-0:50 of Episode 4′s Pep Talk and 0:00-0:30 of Episode 6′s Stop) are the only times in the soundtrack as a whole that this exact thematic melody is played (though I gotta admit, Ep6′s one is by far the more romantic variant of Ep4′s one, see what I did there?).
Meaning, that since Natalie Holt went all the way to introduce us to a musical theme that depicts the romance between Loki and Sylvie that pops up in not just one but TWO separate tracks, it would not be too far off for her to not just be hired again for Season 2 but also consequently develop AN ENTIRE TRACK dedicated to our favorite soulmates, Loki and Sylvie.
I’m not expecting this to happen, but if we’re talking about patterns here, what happens twice is bound to happen a third time, with the third time being the best one there ever is going to be.
And we know that sometime during S2 Loki and Sylvie are inevitably going to reunite, but how, when, and where remains an unknown for now. Perhaps it might not play when they reunite, but perhaps between a far happier moment for the two of them.
What I’m saying, is that once you give an onscreen couple a musical theme that plays not once but twice, with the second time being more romantic than the first, the third time is bound to be the most epically romantic shit you’ll ever hear in your lifetime.
So to all y’all Sylki fans out there, that’s something to look forward to.
