Hey guys! 🙋‍♂️ This is a short story I wrote for the #microkey contest hosted by @sweekstories. It had to be under 250 words 😅 and it was awesome. This kind of contests reminds me that one of the 💡 best ways to get better at writing 🖋️ is restriction. When you set some rules, you force yourself to be more creative. I've 🤷‍♂️ never worried about the amount of words I use so this time I ended up 🤦‍♂️ with 385 words. But after investing some time 🔎 on it, I could narrow it to 238 words and still sending the message I wanted. Great exercise. 🎏 Follow me on sweek to read the story and let me know what you think. INT. HOUSE - AFTERNOON In the middle of the house there's a pod with a few plants in it. Sofía (12) is watering them while singing. SOFIA Live, live my dear babies I wanna see you grow Stay strong my babies And soon on your branch I'll swing and swing And Before finishing her song, her MOTHER (55) comes in and Sofia hides under a table. From behind Sofia we see her mother's feet. On Sofia's face we see her fear. INT. HOUSE - EARLY MORNING The camera follows a PERSON through a hall from behind the knife is holding. At the the end of the hall MARK (80s) is writing on his type machine. Which looks as old as him. The knife starts to rise as well as the shot. Finally Mark notice the person and turns around. MARK Jesus! Then we have a reverse shot. Jesus has some fruits on a plate and begins to cut them in small bits. MARK Thank you for remember Jesus. Last time I had a really hard time eating those apples. INT GIFT SHOP - DAY At 5pm TAMI (30s) is closing the store as usual. No customers waiting in line. No money in her pockets. Before turning off the lights, an old man call at the door. OLD MAN Please miss, I just need a few plants. She let him against her will. Money is important right now. The old man watch all the green plants, one by one. Taking his time and Tami's patience. TAMI Ahmm... Sir, it's pretty la... Before she could finish the sentence the old man dropped one of the pots. Because of the impression, he jumps backwards and breaks a table and the jars that are on it. At the end, ashamed, the old man leaves the place without buying a thing. Tami, who has always thought of herself as a good person, says nothing and cleans the mess. When is all done, the old man comes back. She let him in once more. OLD MAN Sorry miss, my memory is not as good as it was. I came tonight not for plants but for this. He hands a folder to her. When she opens it, she looks at his eyes shocked.
