also what the fuck is with the loss of functionality on things?? I was gonna play a cd in the car only to realize THERE IS NO CD DRIVE. THERE IS NO CD DRIVE, IN THE CAR. No radio either, i believe. What world are we living in right now. i cannot write into words how weird that is. I also went to a Walmart recently to grab a book, but i detoured and went to peruse the laptops because maybe it would be nice to have a new, faster one. NONE OF THEM HAD A CD/DVD DRIVE. NONE OF THEM HAD MORE THAN 2 USB PORTS. WHAT? Im not even sure if they had a headphone port. Im going to maul shit apart. WHY? WHAT could you possibly be replacing with those that would take THAT MUCH functionality away?? I dont want to stream shit i want to listen to the physical i bought to OWN. without ads. Because i OWN the cd and i PAID for it. I DONT NEED A LAPTOP THATS 2 INCHES THICK WHEN CLOSED BECAUSE I DONT CARE?? Thats what specialized THIN ones are for, for people who need them, but where the hell are the chunker ones that can actually do things????? THEYRE ALL DEVOID OF ANYTHING AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!! IM GONNA FREAK OUT!!!!!
#it's an intentional shift to make people more dependent#on services that can charge them out the ass for basic shit

every time jon treats me like one of his engineering lackeys i send out another job application. if only to avoid snapping at him that i accepted an IT JOB. I DON'T REPORT TO YOU. I DON'T CARE IF THE PREVIOUS GUY DID ENGINEERING ON THE SIDE THAT WASN'T IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION.

if there is one thing i will always be an advocate for it is quitting. or at least knowing what you're willing to take before you quit.
man, watching so many of my managers and friends be paralyzed at the thought of leaving even as their workplace becomes a shitshow is just... blegh
#it_speaks#like unironically i really try to ask people 'what would it take for you to quit' bc i think it's something people dont consider seriously#are your nice coworkers actually outweighing the dogshit pay and actual physical abuse or are you scared to return to the job market#like no hate just be honest w/ yourself and set limits for what you're willing to deal with before you try to find something better#and i fucking guarantee you that your first job is not the best its ever going to get!#still bitter abt that time everyone was trying to convince me that my shitty university helpdesk job was the best i was going to get ever#like NO THE FUCK IT WASN'T???? LITERALLY ALL OF MY JOBS AFTERWARDS HAVE PAID MORE AND BEEN LESS PAINFUL???#some of u are just bad at vibechecking employers i think#also half the time people are referring to bad job experiences they had in highschool and like. buddy yeah no shit#your experience with the job market is solely places that were desperate enough to allow an unexperienced teenager to work there#if you shoot a little higher than 'no experience required' i think you'll find better opportunities than geek squad

discord servers will have you thinking shit like "well i like 2 out of 100 people in this server so i guess i'll tolerate an endless cycle of drama perpetuated by a bunch of bored 12 year olds"
#it_speaks#christ i need to get better at chatting with people in DMs so i can ditch this server for good#there is a reason i left this one a year ago and by golly i'll leave again if i see the opportunity

at least here it's a very limited number of programs.
when i was working university IT people would come in with niche programs their professors latched onto and be like "my TA sent me here for help..." and only sometimes we'd get lucky enough to fumble our way through the issue together.
i hope all of those professors go to hell
ridiculous how often my coworkers will be like "hey i know i use this software more than you but can you figure out this issue"
buddy i'm not the one using quickbooks every day you're asking the blind to lead the blind and the only reason it works half of the time is because i read the error messages

this job isnt awful necessarily but the amount of scope creep is insane and i would bet good money that they'll double my boss' responsibilities (without doubling pay) before he quits
#it_speaks#most of my managers so far have been people who got stuck at their first post-college job#and no hate to my current boss but getting stuck here like he did sounds awful#i dont know his pay but i know that he gets lots of calls outside of work#and during times where he doesnt have an assistant he just cant take vacation#and it feels like there are no hard limits to what they expect him to be the Expert on#it's a miracle they've only been forcing the assistants to use CAD. one of these days it's gonna be him though.#and i'm not bitching abt 'oh i have to do email AND AD?'#no i mean security cams. programming circuit boards. the break bell. the automatic lights.#he has so many hands in roles that really shouldn't be IT (or at least not 1-2 people)

Being a home sysadmin is like, magic, actually
I'm an unstoppable deity of WiFi. I have a special box that I've trained to hallucinate a router, a PC, three Minecraft servers, and twenty microservices. I am the Doctor Frankenstein for a Frankenstein's Monster that heats my room 20 degrees and is powered by enslaved electricity. Powered entirely by the freely available arcane knowledge that comprises the Github archives.
