“thanks for taking the time, baby.” “always.” because they lost so much of it in the first year of their marriage. now there’s a sense of a clear work/life balance and footing in their lives. there’s so much i also want to say about pilot!carlos and finale!carlos because the arc he had (and deserved!) is so special to me. five and a half years later and he sleeps in!! and he’s a husband!! and he’s a father!! he shows up for HIS family instead of hiding away from his own.
the finale was such a full circle moment for all of these characters. so many parallels from early seasons to now and i’m a sucker for it

Brighter Than All This Lightning
Idk what this even is! I'm still spinning! But I wrote something!
Rating: G Pairing: Tarlos (duh) Word Count: 2065
“You wanna tell me what you were talking about on the phone, earlier? Speaking of Jonah? You said you had a plan.”
Exhaling, TK almost laughs. That seems like ages ago, even though it wasn’t. It feels like weeks have passed in the mere hours since that phone call. He sniffs wetly, wishing he had something to wipe his nose with other than the back of his hand. He’s always been a messy crier, and on days when he feels like being charitable to himself, he can admit he’s had a lot of good reasons in his life to cry.
He keeps his face tucked into Carlos’s neck, feeling Carlos rubbing a hand down his back, and says, “What if I quit?”
“Quit what?”
“The 126. My job.”
Carlos doesn’t reply, and TK pulls back to look up at him.
Nerves dance in his gut as he quickly clarifies. “If you’re okay with that? You make enough for – but we’re a team, I don’t – ”
“TK.” Carlos cups his cheek and gives him the eyes again, the ones that are so deep and dark TK can see his entire reflection in them, the ones that shine like when he looks at TK, he’s looking at his whole entire world. It’s certainly how TK feels, when he looks at Carlos “Is that what you want?”
“He needs a home. He needs to be loved. Nobody’s gonna be better at that than us.”
Carlos nods.
“And this …” TK gestures behind himself, toward the direction from which they’ve just come. “Family is the only thing that really matters. These people are my family, and I could’ve lost every one of them tonight. I could still lose my dad. And Tommy. Jonah is my family, too, I can’t leave him out there in the cold. We have to bring him home.”

So I'm thinking about the size of that loft and how much sound probably carries with that ceiling and how energetic toddlers are...
...and man, Tarlos's sex life is going to be very, very sparse for a while.

“Try One. Try one. Just try one. Okay I’ll take it”
Carlos trying to make Jonah try some food JUST like a parent would 😂😂
And the way he’s with Jonah all the time. Hes not gonna make the same mistakes as Gabriel. He’s going to be such a great dad. 🥹❤️

it's sooooooo carlos and TK to see them so attentive to each other even when now they're not alone anymore. they're a unit of three but carlos is checking on him about having no regrets, then again about going back to the firehouse without his dad and TK doesn't catch that at first, but carlos really knows him to the core, he knows TK's'it's the first time going through it without my mum' he knows how much it feels like TK's first day of school when you parents have to leave you at the door and you're on your own before you settle in. he doesn't know this firehouse with his dad and it's such a big moment after a big shift for him and for owen but carlos is right there by his side being the capable loving man that made owen feel safe and sure that his mission is done here. and there is TK being his alarm, waking him up so doesn't miss breakfast or rush to his shift, thanking him for taking the time because time with loved ones is TK's idea of love and carlos will speak his love language right back at him without asking. it's such a small glimpse into this new life but it's so good seeing them still, always and forever being the axis of each other's lives. they're taking care of each other emotionally and in every way else and that's tarlos for you!!!!!!! having more weight on their shoulders or responsibilities or becoming a family only makes them want to fight harder and love deeper

I can’t believe I was so busy screaming for joy at my tv that I missed one last precious mention of my boy! The myth, the man, the legend, the…. Soup? RANGER CAMPBELL who is covering for Carlos so he can go to the promotional ceremony and be there for his husband 😌
He didn’t go to prison!! OR get killed by a piece of stray asteroid! This season finale really is the gift that keeps on giving.

I really do be up in this bitch turning crumbs into cookies. Cause Carlos mentioning that Campbell is covering for him so he can go with TK to Judd’s promotion ceremony has got me thinking…
I think Campbell is very gladly covering for him. I think it made him smile when Carlos texted him and asked him to do him a solid. I think he’s proud of him. When he first met Carlos, he was absorbed in work. He was staying late every night. He was neglecting his home life. He was struggling to be there for his husband. He didn’t want a kid because of work and unfinished business. So I just think that Ranger “I’m gonna play hooky from work to go to my kids party” Soup, was extremely pleased to see Carlos finally putting work aside to go be with his husband. He said “hell yeah I’ll cover for you! Go do your thing man!” And smiled the biggest proudest smile to himself, cause his little baby Ranger partner has grown up so much.
