feel a bit....not bad, exactly, but some kind of self conscious sometimes, about how I have endless meta and theories about Bill, and nothing like so much about any of the other characters, you know, the actual protagonists. I could say that's because I feel I have nothing to add that the other fans haven't already said way better than me. That everything I would want to see the fandom explore has been touched on. (I have seen so, so much good meta over the years.) But I know deep down:

I've just got it terrible for this ridiculous triangle and that's it. I love him to pieces. Exhaustingly so. He is very overhyped as a character and we all know it, I know it, Alex knows it, Bill knows it, and I am happily contributing to the problem because Bill has earned it!

Also I arrived in this fandom in the middle of Weirdmageddon and that probably made it even worse, and Cipherhunt sealed my fate. Which is so funny, because I actually really disliked him my first time watching Dreamscapers. Seriously. I cringed. He got on my nerves. I couldn't imagine why anyone would feel that much affection for him. His first impression was kind of a let down, because I was not at all his target audience. I was an overanxious, overgrown kid whose top priority was being perfectly mature and smart and palatable at all times, like my life depended on never being a whiff of weird where anyone important could see.

oh man, I think I know what Fiddleford saw in the Portal.

I believe these are notes he wrote immediately after getting his head stuck in the Portal, and I believe that he's drawn the multiverse (it looks similar to Bill's own depiction of it on the "Universe Is A Hologram" page in TBOB). It's not clear to me whether this rupture he shows is something he learned about, or something he watched happen. The obvious focal point is THERE'S A HOLE IN SPACE, which he's also labelled "weak point" in smaller print below-- is he referring to the way the inherently unstable nature of the Portal exploits the natural weakness of the planar boundaries surrounding the Earth, to create a rift? Probably, but maybe he saw more than one hole. "Many things can break", he's written next to a scribbled out depiction of his own face.

That face is the center of what I'm talking about. He drew it and scribbled it out, like he couldn't bear to look at it. Maybe that's because that isn't how he would normally draw himself. Maybe he looked at his reflection and saw it very, very differently than usual, for a second.

I think it's possible that Fiddleford saw his own model sheet, or something like that, and understood the true nature of his own fictional being, even if it was just for a minute.

He's written "2012" in very small print in the left hand margin, near where he wrote a box around the number 20. Contrary to popular belief, Gravity Falls the show takes place in no specific year, but if it did, it would probably take place the year it started airing, 2012. Fiddleford could have looked into the Portal, and one of the things he saw was that he was not actually in the early 80s. It was the mid-teens.

"INFINITE TIME PHYSICALITY"... might accurately describe what it means to be fictional. What about that Hole in Space, then? Well, it's not typical for stories to break the fourth wall, and near every time it's happened in Gravity Falls, the break has been conspicuously related to Bill in some way, going all the way back to things like the Rumble's Revenge cryptograms, the Search for the Blind Eye ARG website. (With some exceptions.) When that hole appears in that boundary, the narrative is, as Fidds wrote, "Forever Changed". New and wild possibilities arise. After all, "Destruction is a Form of Creation".

I believe both sides, both endings are true simultaneously, the same way that so many other things have been true about him at once. Bill Cipher's canonical self had to be condemned, so that his conceptual self could transcend.

I don't actually think that the intended canonical reading of TBOB is that Bill is manipulating the narrative wholesale for the sake of a larger scheme, but the evidence in favor of that interpretation exists, and it's a fun concept to explore

okay, so: re Silas Birchtree

I still want to do this thing, but I was questioning what format I was going to go with. I think I have settled on what I am going to do. No threads for Silas, he’s an ask blog with optional ability to join the cult and submit your own side content. Basically this will be an interactive fanfic with a pre-destined end (the shootout and fire). If that sounds interesting, feel free to come along for the ride!

So does this make Silas BirchTree essentially the closest thing to a canonical humanisation Bill has??? I mean he deliberately chose this thin white guy's body to possess and dress in a suit and bowtie is all I'm saying
