Something I find incredibly cool is that they’ve found neandertal bone tools made from polished rib bones, and they couldn’t figure out what they were for for the life of them. 

Until, of course, they showed it to a traditional leatherworker and she took one look at it and said “Oh yeah sure that’s a leather burnisher, you use it to close the pores of leather and work oil into the hide to make it waterproof. Mine looks just the same.” 

“Wait you’re still using the exact same fucking thing 50,000 years later???”

“Well, yeah. We’ve tried other things. Metal scratches up and damages the hide. Wood splinters and wears out. Bone lasts forever and gives the best polish. There are new, cheaper plastic ones, but they crack and break after a couple years. A bone polisher is nearly indestructible, and only gets better with age. The more you use a bone polisher the better it works.”

It’s just. 

50,000 years. 50,000. And over that huge arc of time, we’ve been quietly using the exact same thing, unchanged, because we simply haven’t found anything better to do the job.

I had a dream that Touhou 19 was already announced and it continued the Urban Legend incident. Orin was a boss and she was apparently mentally influenced by her or legend (which was that some serial killer who died was actually still alive and operating) to be more hostile about collecting corpses than usual. Also the primary issue was that finally a character was associated with the "the world is ending in 2012" urban legend. I don't remember who.

"Tora no Mon" (Tiger's Gate)

This project, commissioned by CELSYS, the company behind the painting application Clip Studio Paint, consisted of an illustration and an accompanying video.

I was asked to paint an illustration later to be used for promotional materials and review the Clip Studio Paint EX application in terms of using it to paint one of my scenery illustrations.

I was inspired by a photo of a weird tiger statue that I found on one of my walks around Tokyo already a few years ago. I wanted to create a place where such a statue would not look out of place, so I decided to re-image the entrance to Tokyo's Tora No Mon (Tiger's Gate) district. I used some reference materials to get the architectural details right, but overall, what you see in the piece is a completely made-up place.
