Hello Everyone—

Next month I am quitting my job and catching a plane back to Asia, to travel. I’m not sure how long this journey will be— a year, year-and-a-half, two, not sure— but I’ll be documenting my travels on Instagram (as well as here). I’ve started an account, @ HaydenSomewhere — I don’t currently follow anybody on Instagram, but I hope to become more active very soon :) — if we’re mutuals here, we’ll certainly be mutuals there.

I’ve been fortunate enough to see my fair slice of this world, but I always am, and always will be, continually curious to see more. I’ll be starting off in SE Asia, and sticking around there for a while. First stop’s Singapore.

While I am not as active on Tumblr as I used to be, or as I’d like to be— and, sadly, in this giant hateful mess of social media at the moment, the site is not as popular as I’d wish it’d be— it remains my go-to social media, and I’ve always appreciated everyone on here. I hope you join me, and share any recommendations along the way.

I don't usually post food/meals, but this was oddly memorable. I'd woken up way too early one morning and stumbled towards the market looking for breakfast because the streets were already kinda buzzy and I hadn't eaten much the day prior due to my travelling schedule. Found this stall at the back, sat at the counter, asked if it was cool if I ordered a full-on dinner dish at 6:30AM, they said something along the lines of 'yeah, that's a breakfast of champions', hooked me up with a free bowl of caldo and a who-knows-what's-in-it emoliente, slid a dish of limes my way, and made sure I tried some of their salsa criolla because they were proud of it. Woman working the kitchen came around ten minutes later and handed me a hot pound-and-a-half plate of food resembling dinner, I gave her a thumb's up on the onions, and then she gave me more.

Was just a really lovely, hospitable (and tasty) meal. Was still halfasleep, sitting on a slightly-too-short plank of wobbling wood, gulping something suspiciously medicinal, listening to the murmurs of the market, and it all made me feel very at peace. Also, some point near the end of the meal there were some bananas (they're in the picture, barely) sitting precariously on a top shelf that full on cannonballed into a vat of unknowable whoknowswhat underneath and the liquid splat everywhere. They laughed and gave me enough napkins to clean off my glasses.

I think it was $5.
