Struggling was something that Anja Bauer had become familiar with from a very young age. She was pressured to be thinner, to look pretty, to attract boys. She was trained to be just like her mother. She had watched her mother diet and take medications to make her thinner. She had watched her mother drink endlessly and bring home strangers. She listened to every talk about how food would make her fat and how men didn’t date fat women and just like her mother, Anja began to skip meals, count her calories and watch her weight. 

At age 14, she was scouted by a modelling agency but the pressure to be less than what she was just got to be too much. Her grandparents had tried to stop it, tried to admit the teen to rehab but nothing seemed to work. Anja would do well for a while and then fall right back into old habits. She was admitted to rehab 3 times before her grandparents moved her from her hometown in Germany, to a new place in Seattle, USA.

Anja continued battling with her weight and signed herself to a different agency who seemed to care about her struggles but there was something darker in that care. They didn’t want anyone to know about Anja’s eating disorders or her struggles to maintain a healthy weight. They wanted it buried and when rumours of Anja’s body circulated online, they started photoshopping her pictures to make her look ‘healthier’. The rumours stopped and Anja was left feeling lost and alone again. 

At age 25, she met the very person who saved her life. @jubilantrevere​ was working the night that Anja and her model friends went to an opening of a restaurant. Anja hardly ate anything and made excuse after excuse to run to the bathroom. Her friends left her and so Anja approached her to ask if she was okay. They ended up exchanging numbers and built a strong relationship as friends before calling it an official relationship a few months in when Anja’s life came into danger again at another restaurant. 

Anja had passed out in the toilets that night and it was due to Natalie bringing her back to her place and getting her admitted to another clinic that she was able to finally start recovering. Natalie slowly began to repair Anja’s relationship with food by cooking her small meals and trying them together. Anja was dropped from her modelling agency and told not to speak publicly about them but she did anyway, along with going public about her relationship with Natalie. She was finally healing and although she had bad days, she was grateful that Natalie had found her. 

To show her girlfriend how thankful she was to have her in her life and for saving her from hitting rock bottom, Anja had been working on something. A surprise so big that it could change Natalie’s life and now that everything was finalised, she couldn’t wait to surprise her girlfriend with it. She woke up beside Natalie, a grin plastered on her face as she reached across and moved some hair behind Natalie’s ear. “Good morning...” Anja whispered, although she was sure that Natalie wasn’t quite awake yet. She chuckled, pressing a soft kiss to Anja’s cheek. She couldn’t wait to start the day. This was going to be epic.
