I'm also so tired of people pretending Scott was canonically abusive toward Jimmy in Third Life.

Earlier I made a post pointing out how it rubs me the wrong way that people always portray Scott as toxic toward Jimmy and never portray the relationship as mutually toxic or with Jimmy as the toxic one.

This is strange to me because neither of them are actually toxic in Third Life. Making either of them out to be abusive is an extreme fanon extrapolation, which can be done for fun or drama/angst, but I always found it odd that Scott was always the toxic one in this case considering you can just as easily stretch Jimmy's behavior to be "toxic" if you wanted to.

Someone facetiously summed up my argument as ""interesting how you portray the one who constantly insulted and hit his husband as abusive. surely if you really cared about abuse victims you'd portray the one who got beat as in the wrong"" (and then implied i don't care about abuse victims because of this??), which..is ridiculous to me. Because Scott was not canonically abusive.

I agree that it would have been ludicrous for me to ask why they're not both portrayed as toxic if one of them was actually beating the other. But that never happened! Scott may have hit Jimmy in game, but it feels like it's in super bad faith to insist in game action is always a direct one to one show of what's actually happening in a scene. Punching in minecraft is probably the most common form of body language which every single player on the series does to each other.

If you want to interpret Scott hitting Jimmy in minecraft as a literal act of abuse, you can. But they did not treat it as such in the actual videos, they did not put any seriousness or weight behind the act. If you want to portray it as abuse, that's a stretched extrapolation to fit a narrative you want to create, not canon.

And it's not inherently wrong to exaggerate or dramaticize canon. I'm not the fandom police, if you want to make things mean more than they actually did, you can do that.

But it drives me insane when people take a fanon interpretation that they heavily stretched and distorted from canon and expect people to engage with that completely non-canon interpretation as if it's what actually happened.

(* actually removing main fandom tags because it was actually a bit distressing, as an abuse survivor, to be randomly accused of, like, victim blaming or something, over a relationship that wasn't canonically abusive. and main fandom tags are for posts that are coherent and fun to make.)

Do you think Scott ever saw Jimmy dying as being an abandonment of sorts? Not at first (he was too deep in grief to feel anything else for the rest of third life), but..after they all spawned into Last Life? After Jimmy was alive again?

I mean, Jimmy never seemed really..satisfied, right? He always had something he wanted to do away from Scott. He went behind Scott's back with making decisions sometimes. He implied, at least, that he thought Scott was..too weak..in some ways. They argued about it once or twice. Things that Scott didn't linger on at the time because he loved Jimmy enough that those things didn't matter much.

But Jimmy also kept getting himself hurt.

Running under lava for a game. Stepping on a bomb Scott told him how to disarm. And then pulling them into a war.

Scott begged Jimmy to stay safe, to stop taking risks, but Jimmy always acted like he had something to prove. And isn't that unfair? Scott suffered when Jimmy died! Scott spent the next days dazed and grieving and enraged and feeling like his entire world was falling apart because Jimmy wanted to 'prove' something more than he wanted their life together?!

Or maybe Jimmy didn't want their life at all, maybe he wanted to leave, maybe he really just felt like Scott was holding him back, or wasn't good enough for him, maybe that's why he ran off to war the first chance he got. Maybe Scott was just an idiot who didn't know when he wasn't wanted, when he was a nuisance more than a partner.

I'm just saying that it would be..so easy..in hindsight, at least, for Scott to start seeing Jimmy's death in Third Life as a form of abandonment against him, specifically, even if that's not really true.

I know Canary in a Coal Mine is a song people associate with Jimmy a lot, but like, putting aside the canary symbolism for a second, that song is also super Scott coded, right?

Nobody committed to the bit harder then Shawn Spencer. The fact that he could've just come out and told them about his photographic memory and deduction skills on the second day and they probs would've still hired him and taken him much more seriously, but the dumbass bi man chose to continue to pretend to be a psychic FOR 8 WHOLE YEARS is genuinely insane behavior. And don't even get me started on Gus keeping his besties secret for that long, he a real ride or die.

i started this right after the final episodes came out so like 3 weeks ago and i intended to have it done fast but then i didnt have all my art supplies with me and then my hand nerves started freaking out and then christmas happened and i lost motivation but!! i got paint markers for my birthday so i had to use them so i finished it :D and i like it too ^_^ happy to see it done i really like the page flip thing. happy new years.
