Surrey Public Library’s 31st Annual Young Adult Writing Contest
If you are ages 12 to 18 and love to write STORIES or POETRY or create COMICS, and hold a Surrey Public Library Card, now is your time to shine.
Submit poetry, short stories, and comics to Surrey Public Library’s 2018 edition of their teen writing contest.
DEADLINE: 11:59 PM, Aug. 6th, 2018

1. kc dyer, YA and Fantasy Author
Cloverdale Branch, 2 - 3 PM, Wednesday, July 4th
kc dyer's most recent novel—an Amazon #1 Bestseller in romantic comedy for grown-ups—is FINDING FRASER. For teens, kc’s most recent work is FACING FIRE, a sequel to the acclaimed novel, A WALK THROUGH A WINDOW.
2. JJ LEE, Illustrator, Memoirist and Middle Grade Fantasy Author
City Centre Branch, 2-3 PM, Monday, July 23rd
JJ Lee is the author of the acclaimed memoir, THE MEASURE OF A MAN: THE STORY OF A FATHER, A SON, AND A SUIT. He is currently illustrating and writing a serialzed middle-grade fantasy called THE GHOSTS OF HAVENHOLM. You can read it online.
3. JAMES MCCANN, YA author
Fleetwood Branch, 2-3 PM, Monday, July 9th
James McCann wrote the popular novels RANCOR and PYRE. He also is the author of a martial arts novel, FLYING FEET. His latest book is the apocalyptic CHILDREN OF RUIN (formerly Rise of the One-Eyed King).
James will lead a special workshop: MAP MAKING YOUR IMAGINATION. This workshop takes participants through the story creation process by starting with a map setting and seeing what ideas emerge. This is how he began writing, back when he first started playing Dungeons and Dragons and running his own campaigns.
4. APRIL dela NOCHE MILNE, Artist, Illustrator, and Comics Creator
Guildford Branch, 2-3 PM, Tuesday, July 31st
Based in Vancouver, April dela Noche Milne is a Filipino-Canadian illustrator interested in issues of race, gender, and representation.
Her illustrations have been featured in Ricepaper Magazine, EVENT Magazine and re:asian. She is currently working on a graphic novel, THE BLUE ROAD, with Wayde Compton.
