This is part 2 of this post that I made after @teeg reminded me just how much info Facebook collects to track you, and I want to share how to make that harder for them with the rest of you.
Part 1 was how to clear your off Off-Meta activity, and this post will be about how to toggle off Ads Data Permissions. (And I'm going to remind everyone again that we're not here to judge today- there are multiple reasons why some people cannot delete FB, but turning all this stuff off is the next best thing for those who can't!)
Like last time we're going to start by going to your Profile Icon, then to Settings and Privacy to get to your Settings. And once in Settings you're going to click See more in Accounts Center. On desktop it should be in a box on the upper-left of the page.
Once in Accounts Center you're going to click Ad preferences, then Manage info at the bottom of that window.
This will open up a list of three categories of permissions that allow them to use your data for ads. These are: Information used to show you ads, Ads shown outside of Meta, and Other settings.
First, were going to tackle the Information used to show you ads category. (This will be the longest section of the three, so please bare with me.)
Open Categories used to reach you, and disable all those options. Then, in the bottom of that same window, find Categories associated with you, click View and manage, and remove them all.
When you're done the window should look like this.
Next open Activity information from ad partners. You may get a window asking you to Review Setting- if so, click it. Then you're going to want to toggle the option that says, "No, don't make my ads more relevant by using this information"
Next, open Audience-based advertising. This is where you'll be able to see advertisers who are using your activity or information, and be able to remove yourself from their lists.
I'm going to be honest, this one is a little more exhausting. The list is ever-changing as new advertisers ad your information to their lists. You won't recognize more than half of the names, but if you wish you can go through your whole list and click the two Don't Allow buttons on each advertiser to remove yourself from their lists.
Just know that the list is long, and more will appear days later, after you think you're done- so I understand if most of you will want to come back to this step later, or skip it.
I'm going to be honest and say I don't really know if this step is that needed considering everything we will be turning off (tho I suppose many of these will be running off information they already had before you turned it all off so it might be good to try?)- so I'll leave that to your discretion.
Now we can finally move on to the Ads shown outside of Meta category.
First, open Ads from Ad partners, and click Don't show me ads from ad partners.
Then open Ads about Meta, and click Don't use my activity to show me ads about Meta.
Finally, under the Other Settings category click on Social interactions and make sure Only me is selected to disable Meta from including your social interactions alongside ads that your friends see.
And we're finally done!
Also, reminder that even if you can't delete your Facebook account, I urge you to please delete/uninstall the app from your phone as that's the #1 best way to keep it from tracking you everywhere you go IRL and online. That said, if you delete no other Meta app from your phone- make sure to delete FB messenger- it's literally the worst one, but that's another post, which I'll hopefully get to later.
Stay safe out there, and remember- fuck Facebook.

Was recently reminded by my friend @teeg of just how much info Facebook collects to track you, and I want to share how to make that harder for them with the rest of you.
If you still have facebook/can't get rid of it (for any reason- we're not here to judge today) then you're going to want to clear your off-Meta activity.
You read that right, Meta tracks what you do off it's apps as well. It tracks other apps and websites that you use- whether you connected them to Facebook or not, AND places you visit IRL and when you visited. This includes not just stores and other businesses, but also allegedly includes hotels, schools and hospital/doctors offices. (I'm unfortunately unable to confirm the last three for myself as I didn't look closely at mine before deleting- and it's been years since I've graduated or stayed at a hotel, and months since I've been to a doctor. If anyone cares to confirm in the notes I'll update this post.)
This post will show you how to clear your off-Meta activity. (You'll also want to toggle off Ads data permissions, but I'll make another post about that later.)
First, go to your Profile Icon, then to Settings and Privacy to get to your Settings.
Once in Settings you're going to click See more in Accounts Center. On desktop it should be in a box on the upper-left of the page.
Once in Accounts Center you're going to click Your information and permissions, then Your activity off Meta technologies at the bottom of that window.
Once in the Your activity off Meta technologies window you're going to notice at the bottom three buttons, Disconnect specific activity, Clear previous activity, and Manage future activity.
You're going to want to first clear your previous activity and disconnect future activity. This will also automatically clear any activity that would be under the Disconnect specific activity tab, as it's just for picking and choosing what activity to delete.
An added benefit to this is that it will also clear out some of the data Meta uses for its AI programs- not all, but hey- that's something.
Also, even if you can't delete your Facebook account, I urge you to please delete/uninstall the app from your phone as that's the #1 best way to keep it from tracking you everywhere you go IRL and online. That said, if you delete no other Meta app from your phone- make sure to delete FB messenger- it's literally the worst one, but that's another post, which I'll hopefully get to after the FB ads one I promised above.
Stay safe out there, and remember- fuck Facebook.

Ppl love to say “we are living in Orwell’s 1984!!!” about everything but the shift from Trump starting the idea of a tiktok ban to “Trump is saving tiktok!” is theeee most egregious example of doublethink I’ve ever seen in real life like it’s embarrassing lmao

Inner-Logation day
So @caseyhwilkinson just reminded us in the Art Around and Find Out discord that tomorrow, January 20th, is the totally-not-made-up holiday that is Inner-Logation Day!
For those who may be unaware, or who may have forgotten, Inner-Logation Day is a celebration of all things log- where you honor your inner log by taking take time to rest (also known as 'sawing logs'), and post about your love of logs all over social media!
And its totally a real holiday, has definitely been a thing forever, & tomorrow totally isn't the INAUGURAL day of this holiday…
Who else will be posting their customary log art, log memes, & other log-related posts (using the tag #innerlogation) all over social media tomorrow? Which definitely won't risk out-trending anything else going on tomorrow (possibly cheeto or mango related) or make any tangerines jealous- I don't know why I said that! Not important!
That said, I know there are probably some who may have forgotten tomorrow is Inner-Logation Day, so please remember to remind your friends and followers about it, using the hashtag #innerlogation, to help spread the word of log so they don't miss out!
(Also, for no particular reason, I'm reminding everyone that festivities typically start around 11:30am EST and "officially" go on for like an hour, but people often keep posting about their love for logs for like, the whole day)
Happy Inner-Logation day everyone!

i see "men bad" jokes as very similar to suicide jokes. like making them every once in a while isn't the worst thing, but if you Keep making them constantly. it DOES shape how you start thinking and you WILL become a more unpleasant and bitter person and also make people around you uncomfortable. and sometimes you just gotta choose to not make or engage with certain jokes, even if they are amusing to you, because its just not who you wanna be

on twitter they're fighting about whether or not the odyssey is an "american" story and that nobody actually needs to know that story. also that if you had heard of it before the c nolan movie announcement you're a big loser. so things could always be worse

I am going to [remembers that suicide jokes are bad for my mental health] stand in a hole and rotate until I slowly drill down into the soft, loamy earth, burrowing through the core of the planet and out the other side where I pop out in australia and get a gay little drink with my friend

I’ve seen a lot of crude jokes going around about the CEO assassination, and I just want to say one thing.
I think we should do worse.
Live reenactments. Several scheduled a day, like the shows at Disney parks. Someone brings brownies to pass around for the 10:30am showing. Everyone chants “DENY, DEFEND, DEPOSE” as the shots are being fired. People clap at the end. Someone pops one of those party poppers filled with monopoly money. People leave the place with a huge smile on their faces. “Sorry I was late, Boss. I was watching The Adjustment.”
