@guiltscorched asked: "mom. . ." touya, fresh from another failed attempt to convince his father to let him train again, scrubs at his teary eyes and peers up at his mother. his lip quivers. "why does my quirk hurt me?"
“Touya!”
Rei was already jogging over to her son an sliding to her knees before him, eyes full of worry and panic as she saw his fat tears sliding down his face. She thumbed at his cheeks with her ever cooling touch, quiet as she tried to comfort her poor boy. “I’m so sorry dear...I-...it’s complicated, sweetie. And this is why your father isn’t letting you train anymore...he just dosen’t want you hurt...’‘

He visibly cringed when she mentioned her dislike for the hospital. It wasn’t something he blamed her for. Hence why he was hesitant to ask such a thing of her. But his desire to keep her and their children safe was slowly winning out. Even if the last thing he wished to do was smother them with it when he knew they may not accept his protection.
Her question as to why he’d ask such a thing of her made him fidget some more. Before he could even come up with an answer, she seemed to come to some sort of conclusion on her own, however. He was actually surprised that she seemed to be able to read him. “You could argue the same with Natsuo and yet a villain targeted him specifically because he was my son. I don’t know how they came across that information but they did.” Before the attack, Enji wouldn’t have worried that much about it. He wouldn’t think that anyone would think that Natsuo or Fuyumi were his children given Shouto was the only one who was in the public eye. But now he wasn’t so sure.
Sighing in defeat, he decided to try another request. “Then can you at least tell me where you’ll be staying once you’re released? It will make me worry less if I at least knew that.”
He wasn’t implying what she thought he was implying was he? Enji was right. Nobody should know who their family is besides Shouto and yet they did. Natsu wasn’t the type to broadcast his name out into the world. He was far too smart to do something so reckless when his father was the Number One Hero who had many enemies and the second was...well he hated his last name.
So then how? Who would know that? Surely only someone let slip that information somehow. But now she could understand his concern better.
Someone had a hit list on the Todoroki clan. And she was no doubt on that list too.
“...Very well.” Came her reluctant murmur. “If someone is targeting us, you need to find out who and why. I don’t matter but, Natsu and Yumi could be in danger. I know you and Shouto can both look after yourself but the rest of us could be in danger and not even know it. Keep them safe....and if you think staying here till you can make us better secured, than so be it...” It was obvious she didn’t like this one bit.
“This is the price of being Number One, Enji...is it still everything you hoped it’d be?”

As he listened to her, he couldn’t help but smile a little. He never got to see that side of Shouto. However, he found he didn’t mind hearing about it. Especially if Rei was the one to tell him about it. “I will, that much I can promise.” Enji had no intention of letting Shouto out of his sight. And if he couldn’t watch him then he planned to be informed on what exactly his son was doing. Whether it was at school or not.
“I’m just glad you gave me the chance,” he said with another small shrug. He really was too. After he had set his mind on redemption for what he put his family through, he had worried about seeing Rei again. Mostly he was worried about ruining whatever progress she had made since he had her admitted into the hospital. But Enji knew that for him to move on then it would be needed. Though he was more willing to postpone it if Rei wasn’t ready. Thankfully that didn’t happen.
He began to fidget a little as he thought over his request one more time. Especially now that he thought it, he was possibly was the last person to ask for a promise from her. “Just…If they clear you to go home before the new house is done…Stay here until it’s finish is all I ask…” He didn’t think her returning to their current house was a good idea. There was too many memories or so Enji thought. But primarily with villain activity rising quicker than it ever had before, he believed she was safer here. “I’ll understand if you wish to leave but…Just consider it please.”
“Stay here? In this prison I’ve been stuck in for ten years? You can’t be serious.” Rei squinted at him in confusion. “If the new home isn’t ready in time I can just stay with Natsu. If worse comes to worse I can go back home with my mother. Anywhere is better than here. I can’t...I won’t stay here another second the moment I’m allowed to be let go. Why on earth would you ask me such a thing?” She asked quietly.
He seemed almost nervous. Surely there was more to it than he led on. Apart of her had to wonder if this was because he feared what happened to Natsuo would happen to her too...”Enji, I’ll be fine. Not many people even know i’m your wife. I think I should be fine. I hardly think I’m worth such trouble in the first place.” Rei sighed and shook her head. “I’ll give it thought but I can’t promise you anything...I hate this place, Enji.”

“It be any different than how they’re treating me now,” Enji admitted with a shrug. “But thank you, I appreciate that.” At least it will give him a chance to try and make up for everything he done. Even if the only people who seem to want to give him a chance was Fuyumi and Rei. However, he would take what he could get. So long as the boys knew he was trying then he’d settle for that.
His eyes glanced out the window as he thought about what exactly he should tell her. He was in an odd position. He was aware that something was going to happen but he didn’t wish to involve her. Softly he grunted his agreement before saying, “There is…I don’t know for certain but I know if something does happen then I can’t stop him from joining in the fight.” He stared back at her when she turned to look at him again. Enji wished she didn’t have to be put in such position. Having to sit and wait for something to happen and then pray that her son was returned to her. “I will and I will make sure he comes home.”
Once more he was glad that she was being honest with him. Before he even came up to her room he lingered in the lobby of the hospital as he debated on whether or not this was a good idea. In the end, Enji was glad he had decided to go through with seeing her. “You’re welcome but you don’t need to thank me. I should be thanking you for not kicking me out when you had every right to. You don’t need to worry about that. I plan to stay on this path with no desire to faulter.” A thought crossed his mind and this one he wished to say before he left. “Would you be willing to make me a small promise?”
“Don’t worry about that. He’s his own man now, Enji. If he wants to fight. Let him. Neither of us can stop him even if we want him too sometimes. Shouto is a good hearted hero. If there’s trouble, he will run to it. One of the many things that makes me proud of him.” Rei smiled softly. “He was so happy to show me his Hero license when he visited last y’know. So proud and excited to show me how far he’s come. I haven’t seen him smile so much in a long time. Protect that smile with your life.”
Rei chuckled some at that. “Believe me, I thought about it. But I came to the conclusion that it was time I stopped running. Ten years of my life gone, a son gone, a family...The least I could do to help mend what I’ve helped broken was open that door and face you. I think I made the right decision.”
At his hesitant question, she blinked, curious dark eyes watching him inn silence for a long pause before nodding in acceptance. Whatever could he want promised? How odd. “Yes, what is it?” Came her slow uncertain reply.

Whatever he’d expected — and even Dabi wasn’t entirely certain what that may have been — never came. Instead, he was graced with the careful press of his mother’s lips to his cheek, just as GENTLE as when he was a child — perhaps more so, given how many more injuries he’d collected since then. Vibrant eyes widened, blinking with surprise for a moment, before he let out a soft chuckle, a genuine smile attempting to tug at the corners of stitched lips.
❝ Yeah, you got me. ❞ Another small laugh rattled in his chest, turquoise eyes rolling with amused annoyance at her next comment. ❝ I think other people have to actually see it, for it to ruin my reputation. For the record. “
“You’re never too old to get kisses from your mother dear.” Rei teased as she wrapped her arms around one of his, giggling along with his quiet chuckles. She gave him a gentle squeeze, simply happy to be in his presence. For all his huffing and puffing, she was still glad to know she could trick him into a cheek kiss. But instead of his childish ‘Mooooom” whine she use to get, his annoyed acceptance was just as good for her.
“Well I saw it, so I think it counts.” The snowy maiden hmpfed in her tiny victory. ‘‘Besides I don’t want to make you look uncool in front of your friends.” She chuckled into her palm some. “Sometimes even you need a reminder you know.”

@tears-n-snow asked: Tugs on his jacket lightly. “Bend down dear.”

Unprompted Ask / Always Accepting!
Turquoise eyes blink, partially with confusion and partially in surprise, at his mother’s sudden request. What on Earth it could be that she wants this time, he isn’t certain, but he figures that this is still just Rei — she’s never meant any harm.
❝ — Alright…? ❞ Words curiously murmured before the villain shifts, bending down to be more at her level in the first place, an amused scoff playing at the back of his throat. ❝ Why—?’’
Rei giggled softly. Even lowered in a bow, he was still too tall. With a cheeky grin, she stood on her tippy-toes, using him for balance before gently pecking her son’s cheek with a soft little kiss right above a staple.
She lingered there for a moment before pulling back with a warm smile. “Gotcha.” She teased, pride evident in her dark obsidian orbs. “Now your status as scary dragon man is in tatters!”

“I’m well aware of that, Rei. I don’t imagine either of them forgiving me and I’ve come to accept that too.” With the way both of their sons have been, he didn’t think they ever would. Still, he did want to give both Rei and Fuyumi the family they deserved and he wrongly took it away from them. “We can see how living separately goes. I wish to visit when I can.” Enji was certain that Fuyumi would try to get him to come over for dinner. Only he would hope that it would be after they had settled into the new house.
Enji watched her and nodded a little, even if she didn’t see it. That he couldn’t blame her for. He honestly expected her to take the longest in getting over everything he had done. “That’s fine. As I said, I accept whatever you and the kids decide.” It did make him wonder if there was more that could be done to make it easier for them. One thought had crossed his mind but given what they were discussing, he didn’t think it would be a good time to bring it up.
Especially after her request to protect their youngest son. Crossing his arms across his chest, he cocked his head to the side a little as he listened to her. He was a bit surprised that she personally asked him to train Shouto. “He seems intent on having me training him and I have no interest in stopping that.” He was quiet for a moment as he debated with himself but eventually he sighed before saying, “Don’t worry, I won’t let him get hurt. Badly at least…I can’t promise he won’t be harmed.” The last thing Enji wished to do was withhold any sort of information from her. But he also wasn’t about to make a promise he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep.
“Of course you can. I’ll never bar you from them. It is of course their decision to stay or leave when you do come around. I won’t stop them if they need a bit of air or if they have a biting remark your way.” Rei assured with a faint nod. In the name of keeping the peace or something close to it she supposed. She walked a tight rope and she knew it. Not just for her children but for herself as well. To be so honest and yet still feeling as if it wasn’t enough. She had to wonder if this was what he felt now with this newfound road of redemption or something close to it.
“...You feel it too don’t you. Something ominous in the air.” Rei looked away, turning dark eyes upon the cloudy sky outside her hospital window with a stressed expression. “Like a fog that won’t stop growing. I can feel it.” She sighed, pressing a hand to her chest. “I just want him to be ready for whatever is to come. I don’t know what per-say but whatever it is, it doesn’t feel good...” She turned back to her husband. “Do your best. Train him well...” She couldn’t. She wouldn’t lose anyone else in her family. Not again. Never again...
“Enji...? Before it’s time for you to go I just wanted to say...Thank you. For coming and talking with me. To be honest I was...terrified of the thought of seeing you again but, I’m thankful all the same that we’ve come and grown far enough to even have this conversation. Keep this you. Strive for this new path. Never fall from it. And be a Hero. A real one...This country is counting on you and you can’t afford another mistake.”

Rei·:
When he glanced up, he began to worry a little when he noticed tears in her eyes. Enji was aware that when he set foot in the room that the likelihood of him upsetting Rei was high. If that had happened then he had planned to leave right away. Even has he remind himself of that, he first wanted to make sure that she was alright. So he remained where he was and patiently waited for some reassurance that she would be alright.
When she finally spoke, he hadn’t realized that he had been holding his breath until a deep sigh escaped him. The realization was fleeting, however, as her words passed through his head again. Hearing Rei actually say that she liked this new him made him smile little. “I will,” he softly murmured.
However, his smile soon vanished as their conversation turned back to what he had told her. More particularly, the questions she had asked him. Enji’s brow furrowed a little as his eyes drifted back towards the floor as he gave his answers some thought. Mostly what he felt comfortable with saying. “Fuyumi wants us to be a family again…But…That won’t happen with me being there. She feels similarly to you but the boys…Shoto is willing to give me a chance though even he seems hesitant. Natsu can’t even sit to have dinner with me being there.”
Sighing again, he looked up at her as he continued on, “All I want is for all of you to be happy. If that means living elsewhere then so be it. But to answer your questions, for everything have done, yes I think it is what I deserve and quite the fitting punishment for it.”
“Our family is broken, Enji. It will take time to heal. And if you believe this is the course to atonement, then I won’t stop you. Do what you think is best. Even if it means pulling away for a little. Maybe in time we’ll be ready for that next step. One day perhaps, in the future I’d like to hope...we can give our daughter the dream she longs for.”
Rei shook her head then. “But none of us are ready for that. In the world we face right now, you are too greatly need to even begin to focus on such an..endeavor.” Saying his Hero name still felt like soot in her mouth. She winced and looked away. “I for one am one of them...I’m not ready.”
“Protect Shouto. Keep him safe though. Hesitant as he may be. I get the feeling in the coming months he’ll need you more than ever. So please...watch over our boy. Call it a mothers intuition I suppose. I know he’s studying under you. So...teach him everything you know. For me...keep him safe, Enji. I’ll never ask of you for anything else other that this.”

@kasouu asked: 📂 x4
“Apparently my father’s clan the Himura‘s is said to be the oldest ice related hereditary quirk family for generations. Our family is vast and I have many many cousins. In Japan it is said that if there are ice users out there, there’s a good chance they might be related to me. There’s a rumor out there that there might even be a villain ice user who could be a distant cousin of ours. How interesting.”
“I was quite the rebel in my teenage years. Because I have always known that I’d be bought and sold one day, I would runaway constantly and get into criminal behavior all the time. Hehe, I even almost joined a gang! I wasn’t always so frail once. I even wore a black leather jacket! D-Don’t tell my Fuyumi. I think she might faint trying to imagine that.”
“I know how to play the acoustic guitar. I wish I could have taught Touya some more before-...well...I just wish I got to teach him more than I did...after that I never picked up a guitar again. A shame really. I get the feeling Natsu and Yumi would have like to learn, even Shouto.”
“I think that Hawks boy is very sweet and very dashing. To be honest, I love his wings! I’m a little scared to ask for one of his feathers though. They look so beautiful but-...I’m just silly. A lady can dream.”
