SILVER’S LIST OF BEST FIGHTER BY POTENTIAL: what does it mean by potential? those he see that have more than what meets the eye. that spark he and john often would look for their fighters. he doesn’t really discriminate by sex or size, he trained daniel and made him into a very powerful fighter in less than 4 months, so size doesn’t matter, what matters is the potential for greatness. all these are for the main kids tbh:
hawk: he was already a great fighter and he saw the way he mixed up the two styles with ease, yet, terry see the boy is holding back, perhaps still shaken by the events of the haircut. he saw the videos of the 2018 tournament and saw that park of a young boy hwo had enough of being bullied and turn it into power. there is potential in there, as well hawk’s need to please an authority figure. his weakness depends on the verse but terry think it’s his inner self, still seeing himself as that kid pre-flip script.
robby: he trained robby one on one. he thinks robby has more potential in him but his weakness of needing a father figure and his desire to be loved by his father is his doom. terry is set to make robby see that his father is worth nothing and that his real place of belonging is in cobra kai. it’s easier considering if robb.y will have a hard time getting into everyone’s good graces again. like hawk, he sees him mixing the styles very naturally, perhaps more than hawk, but deep down he needs to twist those miyag.i roots even more, because robby has a good heart, sometimes that was seen in every match in 2018 before his arm was broken for it, so he needs to do that, break him.
tory: tory got the fire, got the spirit but he saw her waver once, and he knows her heart isn’t into the art anymore. her weakness is t hat need to protect her love ones. tory worked more as a pack animal in his eyes, a leader of the pack but she very much has failed him the moment she questioned his methods right in the middle of a fight and why he was easy to arrange her fight to make her win. her training once robby starts showing promise becomes more single focused and sees the difference in character. tory doesn’t have the need to please the authority like robby would have.
sam: don’t get it mixed, he does think sam is a great fighter, perhaps, one of the better ones out there (one of the few reasons why he rigged the tournament, just to make sure), but in his eyes, she is too much like her father except she is less pliant than he was during 1985. sam has a strong moral guideline that even when she is following a more strict training under johnny, she still adapts, but silver’s methods might be too much and will question him and he has no room for that. her weakness is also her greatest strength which is her legacy. she just doesn’t seen to know what to do with it.
miguel: unlike hawk, miguel sense of belonging was never CK per say, but johnn.y lawrence. and he goes were the man goes but like robby keene, the weakness is the need to fill that father figure void. this plus the back injury, terry has no real interest in miguel beside maybe hurting him to indirectly hurt the moral of the adults.
demetri: sadly for dem (or happily) he is too MD for his liking. it’s an insult really but demetri has been the one student he sees that had taken daniel’s teachings and seems to thrive under those instead of questioning it and want something more brutal and hard. so in his mind he is not bothering with the kid.
if non canon speaking, he still think @legacytaught is the best fighter in his mind. and he is not being modest but he has trained mercy since they were kid. the closest thing to a kid of his own he would have.

𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗛𝗘 𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗣 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞? even he wasn’t sure anymore. maybe because he didn’t feel like he belonged anywhere else. he should also know better than to antagonize silver too, maybe he just did it to prove that the older man didn’t intimidate him like he did the others, or was that just something he told himself because he didn’t want to admit he found the other man intimidating? duncan stands as tall as he can, not much shorter than the otther man but those few inches could be many with how small silver managed to make him feel sometimes. for all his bravado and tough exterior, it was like silver saw right through that and knew exactly where to strike. he had him pinned down, knew exactly the kind of kid he was, the reason why he got into trouble, anger that boiled high to the surface and didn’t exactly take much to make him boil over. yet the mere mention of sam, even if he didn’t use her name, was the strike that finally made him drop his eye contact, looking down at the ground because he didn’t think she would get it. shoulders shrug slightly, blue eyes staying at the ground as he admits, “ i’m not really training there, sam’s just shown me a few things, ” plus he wasn’t about to admit out loud that he doubted mr larusso would ever really accept him as a student, it was bad enough that he was dating his daughter. he had always been a bad student, it wasn’t the lack of skill, it was a lack of discipline that he refused to apply to anything he did, he doubted even mr larusso would have the patience to deal with him. taking a step back and turning to leave, he pauses to look back at him, “ but if you go anywhere near sam, i’ll make sure you fucking regret it, old man, ”
“hm. that’s even worse, isn’t it? means you are lying to her. i don’t see you hanging out the gi.“ because he doesn’t think the kid has it in him, considering that he keeps showing up even when the things get tough, even when he is dating a larusso and by all means, he shouldn’t. it’s ironic, laughable. but he can use that in his favor. hands on his pockets, the sensei looks casually, a smirk upon his lips as the other takes on the bait he had layed out there for him. “she is a grown kid, mr. trueheart. if she wants to randomly show up at my dojo and stand around, i cannot stop her.“ which is exactly what samantha larusso had been doing. though he is sure she wasn’t telling anyone about it. perhaps it was time for the lovers to have a little talk.

she dresses like cheyenne. flowing bohemian blouses, sandals, jingle - jangle of bracelets and necklaces made with gemstones and twisted thread. there’s a lightness to her words and movements that’s absent from most of the other valley kids, given everything that’s been going on. moon’s brows raise a little, intrigued, ❛ do you mean mr. larusso ? sam’s dad ? ❜ she’s not heard anyone call him danny boy before, and assumes mr. silver must be pretty close with him. ❛ oh ! no, no, i don’t like fighting. sensei lawrence tried to get me involved, but, er… it’s not really my type of thing. i’m more about peace and love, y’know ? ❜
if mr. silver and mr. larusso really are so close, she wonders why he doesn’t sound like he likes him so much… doesn’t sound like he approves. but moon doesn’t dig, and she doesn’t seem to take the bait he’s laying down —— maybe this girl requires different mind games.
❛ that doesn’t seem hypocritical to me ! i mean, if you struggle with being hot headed, i think that’s when you gotta’ try to find something calming. maybe you could learn something from him, mr. silver. ❜
this damn kid. she sure is giving cheyenne a run for her money. or she is slowly but surely becoming her. there is an annoying fondness for that. kept him sane for the most part of the last decade. he is now better, really, and poor cheyenne doesn’t know what happened. maybe he should check on her, keep appearances. for now, he just listens. “yes. sam’s father. i trained daniel back in 1985, but i’m sure he doesn’t tell people that.” paling in comparison with dear old mr. miyagi. but terry knows the impact was deeper. he had gotten deep in there, ruining the once clean roots and that will never go away.
peace and love. of course. “could’ve gotten along with the hippies back in the day.” but if he means it as a compliment or not, he is leaving it up to her. the smile either way is endearing at best, and mocking at most. depends on the type of person she was. “oh no. I find that it doesn’t work that well with me, kid. but good for danny to find something to center himself. he was all over the place.” a short pause, as eyes scan through. “and seems like samantha has you. good to have friends like that.” jesus she really is all sweet and unicorns. nothing seems to phase her.
ignorance is a bliss. or so they say.

IT WASN’T HIS BEST IDEA. he didn’t even know what he’d hoped to accomplish by sneaking into the dojo. he didn’t think anyone would be there. he’d heard through the grapevine that they’d be relocating or whatever. he’d just needed to … test something? try and find some clarity by walking through those doors again? like he’d step past the door frame and suddenly he would know he was meant to be at miyagi-do. it had been some dumbass wishful thinking. there was no big epiphany or come-to-jesus moment. his doubts remained, and to make matters worse he had chosen the night that silver happened to be there. such was his luck. he didn’t know what to expect from the older man. hawk had never officially met or spoken to him. he just knew what he was told by mr. larusso ( which was a bunch of bad shit ).
HIS WORDS HIT A NERVE, BECAUSE THEY RANG TRUE. some days hawk did wonder if he belonged in cobra kai. he feared he would never be anything more than those lessons he’d learned. he’d never been a true miyagi-do. he didn’t fit the mold like demetri, he wasn’t effortlessly good like sam, he didn’t catch onto the teachings as quickly as robby fucking keene did. he’d told himself since the house fight that he was done with cobra kai, and done with being an asshole, but he couldn’t change who he was and he couldn’t deny what he wanted. to belong somewhere was all he wanted. you are cobra kai. he didn’t want to believe it to be true, but it definitely felt that way most of the time. he eyed the seat wearily, gaze shifting between the chair and silver before finally sitting. he must have been crazy. ❛ mr. larusso says we shouldn’t trust you, you know… ❜
SMALL VICTORIES. THERE IS ONE. as the kid takes a seat and he nods, as in approval to what he did, to validate the other. all of those kids who step through cobra kai, they all seek the same thing, really, he can offer them exactly that. so he waits and waits and when the inevitable appears, he laughs. relaxed, comfortable, head shaking because of course danny boy would say that. he probably been shouting about it from the moment their paths crossed once again. “you are a smart kid, i’m sure you can make your own choices, whatever daniel larusso approves or not.” silver makes a point to let that come across. hawk is his own person. daniel larusso has lost his balance and silver is taking a chance to make it even worse. serves him right for holding a grudge.
“look, i hurt larusso back in 1985, yes. but I got better. i was in a bad place, after the vietnam war, deep in drugs and power, john called me and i answered. i hurt this kid for no reason just because john kreese told me to.“ a pause, as glazed sight sets on the younger man. “i’m sure you can relate.“ because hawk had been john’s star student for a short time, when the void of lawrence and diaz had to be filled. find points to come across, something to grasp and relate. let the kid know he ain’t alone.
“that’s not how i want to run things. cobra kai was the one thing that always made sense. it was meant to be a place to belong, you know? to have a family, when blood wasn’t enough.“

COBRA KAI QUOTES MEME || @karatetm
ah the snark, the disrespect. it’s something he expects from truehart. it’s always tu and tug and tug without thinking of the consequences of tugging on the lion’s tail. because in this case, the lion is really a cobra and it’s ready to strike. “you think by now you would know better, duncan. it wasn’t a suggestion. it was an order. then again, you always fail to listen to reason, didn’t you, kid? hothead like you.” and he has experience with hothead, thankfully. but this one is special. because under all that lack of discipline, terry sees the need to belong and someone who is a good student, when he wants to be. “perhaps i need to make my point across my clear. leave, or perhaps i should pay your girlfriend a visit. tell her that despite all your miyagi-do training you still keep showing up here.” a knowing smile appears, as he leans in. “you can’t play both sides, mr. trueheart.”

COBRA KAI QUOTES MEME || @furyof
“is that so? so you break in?“ there is a short pause there, the almost empty dojo and the half filled boxes showing the fact that they were moving out, expading. this, however, was an opportunity. “don’t worry about that. it just goes to show that perhaps, deep inside, you think you belong here.“ the light from the desk room is dim through the rather dark office but it’s enough to see the confusion and the troubled in the young man’s face. hawk moskowitz, the one variable he wasn’t accounting for at the tournament when keene lost the title. but he also knows what works and what doesn’t, in a young troubled mind. “nothing wrong with that too, you know? you belonging. even if they don’t understand it quite right. you are cobra kai.“ and cobra kai never dies, but the unfinished line lingers on unsaid as steel blue gaze fixes on the young man. “what’s on your mind, hawk? take a seat.“

COBRA KAI QUOTES MEME || @oncefroze
she might look like her mother, but all he sees is daniel larusso’s kid, staring back at him and it’s 1985 all the sudden. asking for his advice, for his help to overcome something as primal as fear itself. he contains his gleeful insight on the matter as she talks, aware that the nichols girl had put a number on her. in his mind, nichols was samantha larusso’s own personal barnes. he can work with that. he can work with anything, and what makes it more delightful, is that she came to him without any strings to pull. it would break danny boy’s heart and he is going to watch it happen. “you will never be a champion or be over it if you don’t confront that fear. do whatever you need to do, miss. larusso, but living with that fear is gonna consume you.” echoes of the past slip into the present, he is more understanding now. “it will reach a point in which just ignoring it will do you no good.”
