part of the reason why i always found folklore to be so bone crushingly sad is taylor's other albums up until then always ended with some kind of optimistic bookend - often fan favourites and symbols of hope for fans (our song, change, long live, begin again, clean, new year's day, daylight) but folklore just ends with hoax, which just accepts the idea of living in love that is so tinged with pain and sadness but not wanting anything else

I’m sorry but I’m still stuck at the fact that Taylor’s loved ones threw her a party to celebrate this massive professional and personal feat she’d poured her heart and soul into for three years, embracing the greatness of it all and welcoming her home in what is likely a very emotional time. It seems like it’s the softest and warmest place to land and an incredible way to transition back into “civilian” life as it were and once again I would wager this might be the first time her success and accomplishments have been lauded in this way.
