Happy Halloween!

This one is based on an old MMO called Fiesta Online, where high level mages can summon skeletons to help them in battle. The idea led me to wonder if, offscreen, they’re using the skeletons to help with other daily life things as well.

A few days ago I have finished my first book in Icelandic.

It was "Arfurinn", or "The Inheritance", by Arndís Þórarinsdóttir. It's meant to be read by young teens whose native language is Icelandic.

This has been insanely beneficial for my vocabulary and reading comprehension. I think that I'm ready to move on to other books of the genre — but perhaps after I spend some time working on writing, which is my plan for the next month(s). I feel pretty proud of myself.

One month, 300 new words, 100% confidence.

Ciao! Is there a way to say "crush" in Italian?

We more commonly say “cotta”:To have a crush on (to be attracted to) = Avere una cotta per / Prendersi una cotta per

Mi sono presa una cotta per Luca / Ho una cotta per Luca.I have a crush on Luca.

I’m not sure if someone actually uses it as “your crush is coming” (sta arrivando la tua cotta). I never did/heard that tbh. We mostly say the name of that person or “look who’s coming!” (guarda chi arriva!!) or jokingly say “your bf/gf is coming” (sta arrivando il tuo fidanzato/la tua fidanzata) with a smile and touch the interested friend or make some weird looks.

Recently though, some (mostly young people) have started using the word “crush” as well (as many other English words) and you can notice that on social networks too. So they might actually say “sta arrivando la tua crush” (your crush is coming).

Oggi ho visto la mia crush in centro.Today I saw my crush in town/in the town’s center.

[ Another way we use that word is: to be madly in love with = essere cotto di Sei proprio cotto (di lei/lui)!You’re so (madly) in love (with her/him)! ]

(Beware bc “cotto/a” is the past participle of “cuocere” = to cook. It translates as “cooked”: La pasta è cotta = pasta is cooked/ready; il pollo è cotto = chicken is cooked/ready.And that’s why we say so.)
