Kinship Diagram for Essay#4
My attempt at showing the godparent connection to Jose and Cindy and their son Christian. In addition, I wanted to show the connection between a family member who is not blood related calling it an “honorary uncle/aunt”. I also wanted to demonstrate how this honorary aunt can also be a Madrina (godmother). The diagram also emphasizes the role the elder family members have in a family as most of them become godparents for the younger generation.

Compadrio in rural Brazil: structural analysis of a ritual institution - Antonio A. arantes
This structural analysis focuses on the compadrio system. This study was conducted in the late 1960′s in Brazil.  It’s premise is to formulate some hypotheses for the understanding of compadrio, a ritual kinship system found today mainly in peasant communities of Latin America and Southern Europe. It involves a couple of parents, their child and the child's godparents which are called Compadrio Group. This was done by contrasting it with elements of the kinship and marriage systems, and taking in consideration the peasants' religious background.

Padrinos: Wise Helping Hands  Essay 4 Excerpt
Who has the role of a mother or father, is part of your life maybe since the day you were born, pays for things like parties, food, and maybe your education, and may or may not be “blood related”? That’s right! Your Padrinos. Padrinos and Madrinas are crucial in Bolivian culture because they provide sponsorship and mentorship to an individual throughout the course of their life. A padrino can be a family member like an aunt or uncle or a close family friend. The selection of a padrino depends on the life event of the individual. For instance, padrinos are selected for the christening of a child, quinciañeras, and weddings. Being selected or volunteering for this role is an honor that functions to connect family and friends together.

The meme says “Im planning my wedding, who wants to sign up”
Sometimes it takes a village, right? The person here has assigned a padrino for every aspect of her wedding. We have a godparent for clothes, godparent for sugar, godparent for tables, godparent for cervezas!
A padrino can volunteer to take the responsibility of providing something important for a wedding. No matter what it is it’ll be an honor.

COVID-19′s effect on Bautizos.
Based on tradition, the padrinos (godparents) gift the ahijado (godson) a shell, bautizo gown, and a bible.
Im guessing the Covid edition would be the water gun. lol

There couldn't be a funnier/truer meme.
At the start of any event padrinos and madrinas are at their best, but wait till the 2am mark. It just shows you that they're having fun! :)

In this documentary, the Padrinos de Boda were selected and informed of their selection via phone and had to travel from U.S. to Mexico to fulfill their godparent duties.
