If people were to ask him how to describe himself, he would say; Oikawa Tooru is a man of dignity but with anxiety, he was confident but still has insecurities. He desperately needs his anchor; Iwaizumi Hajime and he had always believed that Iwa wouldn’t let him sink further.

For him, Iwa has always been there even before he had born and he certainly didn’t know a world where Iwa doesn’t exist, because he had assumed that Iwa being born earlier had always been waiting for him.

He was too dependent on his anchor, to think that Hajime and Tooru were eternal until it wasn’t. The text from the Seijoh’s VBC 3rd year popped up in his head, making his serve swerve off out of court. “Sorry!” He looked towards his teammates with a smile that covers his true self.

Extra + Ordinary = Shizuragi meta

I am back~~

This time I wanted to write more about Shizuragi. Despite lack of Ugetsu I enjoy recent chapters a lot. Hiiragi was always one of my favorite characters too, so I am happy that he had more spotlight lately. In addition, I am glad that Shizu got to be more fleshed out as character. I mean he was always just in background only supporting Hiiragi, but mix_4 shown more insight into him and how he sees others.

Besides, I like how Shizuragi and Mafuyuki as relationship foils each other and yet there are quite a lot parallels between them. It is more like contrast between them is more in both Hiiragi ‘s and Shizu’s minds than in reality. Frankly, it is quite interesting how both of them see Yuki in different light, but still perceive him and his relationship with Mafuyu as special. It tells a lot about them and why their relation is in kind of stagnation now.

Okay, firstly let’s move way back to Hiiragi POV from chapter 9

Divine providence sounds so extra poetic xD It is rather clear that Hiiragi sees relationship between Mafuyu and Yuki as something that was meant to be given how they suited each perfectly. Another thing, Hiiragi thinks of himself as inferior to Yuki too – though more on terms of music talent.

Not only him, but Shizu sees Mafuyuki as special too.

What’s more he is visibly envious of them. He considers himself as different in rather self-depreciating way. He doesn’t have fate on his side and because of that he “can’t be bothered to care about appearances”. To me it sounds like he doesn’t believe that he will have romantic relationship like them or that he is worthy of that. What is also important that Shizu seems to be bit dispassionate about music and see Hiiragi’s talent as dazzling and something he doesn’t have.

Okay, but I doubt it is Kizu Natsuki’s intention to claim that Yuki or Mafuyuki are perfect. It is not the point. It is more like projection of both Hiiragi and Shizu. It is telling what both of them desire – spirituality in love and music. I mean in a sense of to be in romantic relationship not only on the normal level, but something more spiritual like “filling each other missing pieces” and fate. As for music – it is passion or talent for it more on high ground. It is like - parallels everywhere – similar to how Akihiko was envious of Ugetsu’s otherworldly talent. But as fan of TwoSet Violin I know - music geniuses are not born, they practice 40hrs a day XD To sum it up, Shizu and Hiiragi see in Yuki and his relationship with Mafuyu what they are missing in their own life, which lead to idealization of them. Besides, even though Mafuyuki is indeed special, it doesn’t mean it was perfect - they had problems and argument like other people, which unfortunately resulted in tragedy. But still it is about how they see themselves, which is not exactly how things are. To me Shizuragi are special as well -  their personalities balance each other very well and they know each other almost whole life just like Mafuyuki. Besides, it is impressive that they won CAC, which shown their effort and passion for music as well. But again they need to arrive to this conclusion themselves. You know just like things are in real life.

This whole situation reminds me of Kizu Natsuki’s Hq dj Tōasa no fuchi, where there is similar motive between Iwaoi and Matsukawa x Hanamaki. There will be spoilers, so you can skip rest just in case.

Tōasa no fuchi is side-story from Hanamaki’s perspective to another Iwaoi dj Kono Machi ni Sunderu Karera no Koto. In this story he reflects on his relationship with Matsukawa and compares it to Iwaoi. He considers his relationship as inferior because it was dull and there was nothing special about it – in contrast to Iwaoi who known each other whole life and got together after breakup and separation like it was “something weirder than fiction”.

He changes his mind about it after he went to Iwaizumi’s photography exhibition. He sees that Iwaoi have ordinary side to them as well and their struggles and everyday life is similar to everybody else.

He realizes that he is not that much different as he originally thought, which allows him to see his life and relationship with Matsu in new light. He starts to appreciate it more and embraces it fully as “dazzlingly beautiful ordinary”. I really like that last line.

I think that there is high chance that current arc in Given will end on similar note. That’s everything for today, thanks for reading. I hope that everybody is safe and healthy

hello anon! i hope you like this~

she immediately turns to Oikawa since he should be an expert, right? the guy gives good advice but he pretty much embraces all of the attention way too smoothly to be taught but he does his best. “don’t let it get to your head, F/N-chan~”   “oh its okay i have motivation. i don’t wanna become you.”   “RUDE.”

makki asks if she’s going to accept any of the requests to be a girlfriend to any of them, and the two spend the whole lunch period talking about it and discussing the best out of the ppl to go out with. it takes F/N’s mind off of things but oddly makes her feel bad

Iwa just slaps her on the back and tells her not to become Oikawa. he eyes ppl who walk up to her though, just in case he as to step in (which he won’t but he feels like he as to do this)

Mattsun makes himself her personal bodyguard (after Iwaizumi ofc) and has a lot of fun going it. “make way for the queen peasants” , “bow down before her” are things he has probably said

they go through the letters or always ask about any new confessions bc its pretty entertaining and they’re gossipers. Oikawa is constantly squealing as he reads them and makki and iwa are great listeners. mattsun eats the unwanted chocolate if there is any

over all they are v helpful. oikawa especially bc he handles this all the time with his own fangirls. when she isn’t in the mood for all of it mattsun and iwa whip out the sunglasses they carry with them and makki and oikawa politely ask ppl to go away as the other two boys sit next to her trying to look intimidating. it always cheers her up

Reactions of Teams to S/O being a Top Volleyball Player (Kuroo, Oikawa, Bokuto, Kageyama)

This was requested by an Anon! They originally requested for Hajime to be in the mix, but in order to get the four main aspects of the four teams we all know and love, I decided to switch out Hajime with Bokuto! Hope that’s alright!

“Is she even real?” 

“Doubtful.” 

The rest of the team watch with a sweatdrop as Kuroo uses both fists to grind into Yaku and Lev’s heads, an irritated expression on his face as he does so. 

“Oi. My personal life isn’t any of your business.” The raven haired boy sighs before glaring down at Lev especially. “If you have time to be gossiping about my very real girlfriend, you have time to work on your receives!” 

“Hah? We’ve just never met her though.” Lev rubs his hand on his head with a pout, Inuoka cackling behind him. 

“And you never talk about her.” Yaku sticks his tongue out. “So she’s probably made up.” 

“YOU LITTLE-”

“Um, am I interrupting?” 

The whole team suddenly silents to look up at the newcomer who entered the gym, bags of food in their hands with a sweatdrop on their forehead. You grin a little nervously, setting the bags of food down when Yaku and Inuoka both rush up to you with widened eyes. 

“Y-you’re…”

“(Y-Y/N) (L/N). One of the top players in Japan….” 

Yamamoto immediately hides behind Kenma, a blushing mess as Kenma sighs, ignoring the shy yet intimidating boy to pause his game. Kai claps Kuroo on the shoulder, looking at him with a look that said seriously? 

“Oh. (Y/N)-san. What brings you by?” Kenma sets his device down to walk up to you, and you smile a little before ruffling his hair in greeting. The rest of the team gapes at the interaction. 

“Just visiting. Practice let out early today, so I thought I’d drop in, I hope you guys like meat buns!” Your eyes narrow in on Kuroo, who stood smirking with a hand resting on his hip. “Are you bullying your teammates? Is what Kenma told me true?” 

“Whaaaat? I could never.” Kuroo slyly walks up to you, making a show of wrapping his arm around your waist before pulling you closer, nuzzling his face into your neck. “I missed you, though.”

“WHAT?!” Lev and Inuoka both blanch, Yaku fainting over dramatically into Kai’s arms as Fukunaga shakes his head at the complete and utter stupidity that was his team. 

“You never told them?” You blink at your boyfriend as he simply grins down at you, a playful glint in his eye. 

“Nope. They did doubt you were real, though.” 

Shibuyama rocks himself back and forth in the corner as you sweat drop. “(Y/N) (L/N) just brought us food…” 

“(Y/N)-san, you should run!” Lev whispers at you, genuinely worried.

“Blink twice if you’re in danger!” Yaku eggs on as Kai smacks the back of his head.

“W-Will you give me some tips?” Yamamoto manages to squeak out, eyes downcast at the floor as you laugh, leaving the team to stare at how pretty you were when you did so. You cast a glance to your boyfriend, who was now glaring at all of his teammates with a promise of death in his eyes. 

“So, you do bully them.” 

“Eh.’Bully’ is a flexible term. Shall we get going?” 

You flush when Kuroo places a kiss on the top of your head before leading you towards the exit, lazily waving a hand at his team, obviously bragging. You sigh as he wraps an arm around you as you walk.

“You’re the worst.”

“I know, right?” 

Oikawa

“What’s up with you?” Mattsun questions suspiciously during a rally with his team captain. “You haven’t drooled over how pretty a girl is for like the last two weeks. Are you sick?”

“Maybe he’s gay.” Hanamaki mentions in passing as Oikawa’s eyebrow twitches. 

“Believe it or not, but that idiot is going steady.” Iwaizumi responds for his best friend as Oikawa sends him a thankful stare. “She’s unbelivable, too. I still question how he got her.”

“Must be mentally ill.” Hanamaki nods in agreement with Mattsun as Oikawa hits the next rally back with twice the force, annoyance evident on his features as the two laugh at his misfortune. 

“Really? Who’s the unlucky girl?” Kunimi adjusts his knee pads as Kindaichi keels over in laughter. 

“I’M YOUR SENIOR.” Oikawa snips before catching the ball from his rally, Kunimi already walking away with a chuckling Kindaichi. 

“Hah…probably another girl from his fanclub.” Watari sighs knowingly to Yahaba, who remains unbothered, knowing it was probably the same-old situation. 

“Well excuse you, actually-!” 

“Was I just accused of being part of your fanclub?” 

The team all seem to blink once in unison. Hard.

You offer a side smile, leaning against the doorway of the entrance to the volleyball club gym as a beat of silence follows. The silence continues when Oikawa’s face suddenly breaks out into a huge smile, jogging up to you as you frown, reaching into your own duffel to pull out a towel to wipe at the sweat collected around his neck. 

“You’re all sweaty. Gross.”

“I’m gonna hug you~” 

You can’t fight the small smile from breaking out on your face when Oikawa pulls you into a tight hug, smiling into your hair before you notice the heavy silence around the gym. 

You wave once to Iwaizumi, who was sighing with an I told you so look to his fellow third years, who both had shocked expressions on their features. He nods back at you, offering you a single wave. 

“What brings you by?” 

“Thought I’d visit this dummy after he whined about missing me yesterday.” You shake your head as Oikawa releases you, putting a hand on the small of your back to lead you over to the rest of his team, his smile looking a little more boastful than usual. 

The silence around the gym breaks in an instant.

“Aren’t you (Y/N) (L/N)?!” Kindaichi exclaims, a blush rising to his features as you smile sweetly. 

“Mhm!” 

“Super successful top-player in Japan?” Kunimi looks suspicious. 

“I wouldn’t say super successful…”

“You’re humble too? Did Oikawa blackmail you?” Mattsun questions, eyes widened. 

“N-No-?”

“If he actually is blackmailing you, this is a safe place. I promise.” Hanamaki says seriously as Iwaizumi cackles at the lack of faith they have in their captain. 

“HEY!” Oikawa grits out as the three laugh altogether, the under classmen still looking at you as if you were a dream. You shuffle slightly, looking down at the floor.

“Well, to be honest…” The team hangs onto your every word as Oikawa nudges you slightly, a look of betrayal across his features.

“(Y/N)!” Oikawa whines as you can’t help the laugh from bubbling up in your throat. 

“I brought pizza, by the way, it’s outside.” 

“You’re perfect..” Yahaba gapes at you with a sparkle in his eyes as Watari knocks some sense into him. 

“(Y/N), come here.” Oikawa puts you behind him protectively, glaring at his teammates. “For abusing me, you don’t get to talk to me totally awesome girlfriend!” 

You quirk an eyebrow as a collection of boos and no fairs ring out across the team, causing you to release a second laugh. You put an arm on Oikawa’s chest, calming him down as you smile brightly at the rest of the team.  “I’m actually here to get to know you all, so let’s all go eat, okay?” 

“(Y-Y/N) is literally an angel…” Kindaichi’s eyes water as Kunimi sighs from next to him, following the team out of the room.

“Totally different from Oikawa-senpai.” 

“OI!” 

Kageyama 

“Since when do you date?”

“Since when do you care about girls?” 

“You’re telling me you’re head isn’t just filled with volleyball? Shocker.” 

Kageyama’s face becomes one of irritation at that last comment, glaring at Tsukishima as the blonde smirks back in response, making the blue-eyed boy release a sigh. 

“It isn’t any of your business, anyway…” 

Knowing Kageyama wasn’t one to usually brag, Daichi walks over, hands up in negotiation. “Now now, if Kageyama doesn’t want to talk about his feelings-”

“Which he never does-Ah!”  Hinata glares at his teammate, rubbing his head from the hit said teammate had landed on him. 

“-then he doesn’t have to.” Daichi finishes with a slight sweat drop as Suga releases a chuckle from next to him. 

“Still, Kageyama, it’s pretty amazing you have a girlfriend.” Suga flashes his kouhai a bright thumbs up along with a big grin. 

“Y-You’re senpai are proud!” Tanaka and Noya salute at the same time, eyes filled with tears that were probably a mixture of jealousy and actual pride.

“Thank you..?” Kageyama trails off before suddenly seeing someone leaning against the wall next to the entrance, a playful smile evident on their face at the fact that no one had heard you come in and that you heard everything that had just taken place. Kageyama suddenly blushes, shocking his teammates at the foreign expression on his face. 

“Why are you-OH MY GOD.” Tanaka’s volume rises in shock when the whole team all notice you at once, causing you to adjust the duffel on your bag and push off the wall. The insignia of your team proudly on your back as the Karasuno team is suddenly faced with a player from the national league. 

“Um. Surpsise?” You give your boyfriend awkward jazz hands as you approach, the usual boisterous Karasuno team suddenly at a loss for words. 

“W-Why is (Y/N) (L/N) here all of a sudden?!” Noya exclaims, turning to Tanaka. “Oi, Ryu. Punch me. As hard as you can.” 

Daichi manages to catch Tanaka’s reeled back fist as Kageyama walks up to you with a bit of awkwardness in his steps. 

“What brings you?” He mumbles quietly as you smile brightly, shuffling around in your bag before emerging with a bag from the convenience store.  “I brought some ice cream! It might have melted a little, but I was hoping to see what kind of team you play with.” You ignore the gapes from his team when you suddenly place a kiss on his cheek affectionately before pulling back, a pout now evident on your features. “You could at least pretend to be happy, you know.”

“I am!” Kageyama blurts out before your face relaxes into a smile, reaching out to pet his hair affectionately. 

“You’re on the cover of Monthly Volleyball…” Hinata mumbles in shock as Suga nods in agreement, eyes also bewildred. Tsukishima remains indifferent, crossing his arms as Yamaguchi’s mouth hangs agape.

“Hold up.” Tanaka steps forward as you smile in greeting to the team. “You’re Kageyama’s girlfriend?” 

“Yep!” You respond brightly, looping your arm with Kageyama’s as the blue eyed boy turns a dark red in embarrasment. 

“And…you’re his girlfriend willingly?”

Daichi slaps the back of Noya’s head, who whimpers slightly in pain as you blink in confusion, looking up at your boyfriend. 

“You didn’t tell them?” 

“I knew they wouldn’t believe me.” Kageyama responds, moving to slip his hand into yours before tightening his hold. You giggle, knowing he was either being protective or boastful, before stepping forward with a wide grin. 

“Have time for a break?”

As the team all move to take their seats to get to know you, Tsukishima shakes his head in quiet disbelief.

“This gives me hope in the world.”

“Shut up.”  

Bokuto

“Bokuto, please please don’t do this right now.” 

The silver haired boy tightens his hug on his knees in response, a cloud of gloom over his head as said boy doesn’t reply. 

Akaashi releases a heavy sigh. For some odd reason, their usual comments of praise weren’t working today, and Akaashi was beginning to realize in order to get the practice moving, drastic measures would have to be taken.

“Hey.” the setter lifts his phone to his ear. “What was that thing you did that one time? I’m sure as hell not going to do it, but I could probably get someone to…oh. You’re in the area? Yes, please that would be great. Come as soon as you can.” 

“Who did you call?” Konoha questions, lifting his shirt to wipe the sweat on his head as Akaashi simply sighs, casting one more glance at his best friend before jogging back into the practice. 

“Reinforcements.”

About a half hour later into the practice, the entrance to the club suddenly opens hurriedly, making the members of the Fukurodani team pause what they were doing. Konoha and Komi both freeze in place, jaws falling slack as Washio and Sarukui both simply feel their eyes widen at the entry of a female volleyball player in the top of the national league. 

“Where is he?” Is all that slips past your lips as Akaashi beckons you over to where Bokuto sat in his corner, his ear seeming to grow at the sound of your voice. 

You’re hardly able to take another step when the now hyper boy suddenly glomps you with a large hug, pressing you into his chest with a wide smile now embracing his features.

“(Y/N)!” 

Akaashi sweatdrops. All it took was you coming to pay him a little visit? 

“I missed you so much!” Bokuto affectionately holds you tighter, breathing in your scent from your hair as you laugh slightly, pulling back. 

“Someone told me you were sad, so I came running.” 

“Someone…?” Bokuto’s eyes widen in realization before running over to Akaashi with his arms spread. “Akaashi!” 

“I did what needed to be done, please don’t hug me.” Akaashi holds his arm away from him in an attempt to stop Bokuto’s offered affection.

You blink, suddenly noticing the stares from the Fukurodani team as you laugh a little nervously, scratching the back of your neck.

“Hello. I’m-”

“(Y/N)(L/N).” Konoha finishes for you in shock as you smile kindly. 

“You’ve heard of me?”

“Who hasn’t…?” Komi trails off in disbelief before suddenly glancing at Bokuto, who was now giving you a hug from behind, nuzzling into you as if he was recharging himself. 

“Don’t tell me-”

“You’re dating Bokuto?!” 

“EH?!” 

“He never really gets depressed around her.” Akaashi states before forcibly prying Bokuto off you, looking him dead in the eye.

“Can you play now?”

“Hey hey hey! Of course I can!” The team watches in bewilderment as you smile when Bokuto plants a loving kiss on your cheek, kissing your knuckles afterwards before facing his team. “I’m fired up now! Watch me, (Y/N). If I do that move you’re super good at well, you owe me a date!” 

Konoha tugs on Akaashi’s shirt, mumbling lowly.  “Please invite her to all of our games.” 

“Already have.”
