So with my work complete, I’ve moved onto compiling it into a neat, well presented 15 page portfolio. I’ve presented my work before, but this time I really wanted the work to pop from the page, and flow like a story, so I’ve put in alot of effort to lay out my pages in a way that is both interesting and well-presented, which is a aim I made at the start of this module.
My second page is a 1500 word reflection of my project and how it progressed. And instead of jumping straight into my work, I’ve added a transitional page to just allow the viewer to get a feel for the atmosphere of the work.

All of the work thus far is pretty much complete, my job now is to compile all of the work into a neat 15 page portfolio. I’ve created two more illustrations to accompany my work, my next post will be showing the finished pages!

So, as stated earlier in my project, I wanted to create an illustration which really tied the project together, and after creating the Tarot cards, I wanted to see those designs in my final illustration. But one thing I really wanted to see was the idea of the change between the Good and Evil aspects of the story - I was heavily inspired by the login screens in League of Legends, and after doing some research I wanted to create an animated illustration which could almost be used as an introduction screen for my story!
So above you will see the two illustrations which will be combined for the final animation. I will be combining these illustrations in premier pro and after effects to explore what effects i can add to add to the overall atmosphere.

So I sent my work for feedback, and was so happy to see Ryan’s reaction to it, he liked the progress I was making, which was relieving to hear, especially considering how nervous I’ve been about my work so far.
I created this 2D animation, exploring how the card would transition, but might go into after effects and explore some particle effects to see how I could play with this transition. I like the idea of the old design burning away to reveal the design beneath.

I created four final designs to give an idea of the overall style, scale and colour of the cards.
They rely on intricate, detailed linework, to make up for the 3-colour-pallet. The use of red is meant to show the darker aspect of the designs, it needs to be clear to the audience that these cards are not good, they are not pleasant and the main character only uses them to further her investigation into the murder of her family.
The red also symbolizes the blood of her family, which was spilt by the creature that  left her with these cards, thus the magic of these cards is tainted by the blood of her family.

When doing the visual research for my designs, I really wanted to include hands within my designs, for two reasons…
Firstly, because hands by themselves can be both intimate yet also impersonal without a person attached, I wanted the designs to be both cold yet also intimate in their portrayal of each concept. I kept this idea when delving into my small sketches.
Secondly, because I really wanted a tie between my characters hands and the use of her cards. These cards were left specifically for her by a creature of evil, so I like the idea of there being aspects of her within the cards, her hands are stained and she does her best to hide them by wearing gloves, so it makes sense that the cards will put this on display for all to see, revealing their first secret, hers.

The Tarot cards were not a priority in this project, and were removed from my creative contract when I began this project. However, I am so happy that in the end I managed to design them, as they are a crucial aspect of my character.
I didn’t put much attention into the actual practice or history of Tarot readings, and more so focused on making the designs interesting, as well as taking into consideration how they would change and interact with the character.
You should see above, the old concepts I created a few years ago when creating this project, and while I do keep the idea of Tarot cards which draw energy from their user, I have changed the way they do this as well as how they look and change.

With the completion of my Exterior, all of my deliverables are complete!
I’ll now be focusing on creating the final Tarot designs and if I have time I want to create a final illustration which can tie the whole project together.

Not much needing said, I’m very happy with how quickly I’m progressing, and with the state of things, I’ll be able to create Tarot designs, which initially I thought I wouldn’t have time to do.

I feel it needs to be said, environments are not my strong point, so when doing this project I was dreading this part of the design process, because creating a environment which communicates clearly the shape and form of my subject is harder than expected. I decided to try and combat this, I would treat my caravan like a character, splitting it into parts and visualizing it from several angles, so that when seeing it from all the key angles, its easy to understand its form and overall shape.
Additionally, I know that I want the final deliverable for this project to be in colour, so I began exploring colors as well as the style I want to portray in the final design.

At this point, I’m really thinking about the story behind the design and how I can bring it back to its roots, so I started considering my earlier idea of a stall, where my character would sell all her herbs and medicines, as well as practice her tarot readings, additionally I looked at the sign seen above her door. I wanted there to be a clear distinction between the character and her past, as I’ve said before the character’s family practiced in Tarot Reading, and upon their tragic death, Vadoma has adopted the trade to try and keep herself afloat.. So I looked into how I could perhaps show this in the design, which you’ll see in the designs above.
