what i love about moriarty/irene as a villan is that a lot of plot twists look silly when you rewatch the show/media. incontinuity of behavior, like in frozen where hans displays true affection for anna and others and all of these behaviors look really weird once you find out he's the villan. but in elementary, they planned it out so beautifully.
all the times she speaks to sherlock through the phone, through her henchmen, it still sounds like her. you can hear her in it, her word choice, her musings, her affection. it all falls together beautifully. it's why the reveal, however shocking, works so well. because we, the audience, believe it. we have been given all these clues as to who moriarty is, first, sebastian moran, second john douglass, thirdly, some mysterious voice on the phone. all the pieces of the reveal make so much sense, pieces of a puzzle lining up.
irene herself is a shadowy presence over the show. she looms large even from episode 1. "because now i know it was a woman," joan says. we are introduced to irene as somewhat of a catalyst for sherlock's addiction. we know sherlock is incredible and strange, and for him to forego all of his grievances about love and connection, we understand that irene must have been truly incredible. but we don't get to meet her, not till we meet her, and then she's a shell of herself. we, the audience don't expect much from a love interest who's been tortured. it's almost a false sense of security.
the obsession with sherlock, the ask that he not be killed, the way "moriarty" toys with him, it all makes so much sense the second we see irene as she really is, moriarty. we understand why everything revolved around sherlock and why irene was even involved. because they were always involved, because sherlock was at the heart of it, quite literally. her reveal does what the perfect plot twist should, which is answer questions, instead of create them. all the loose ends that have been dangling around, of how irene was such an incredible person, of her death, of the shadowy moriarty and why he cares so much about sherlock, all of it is tied up in one very neat answer. it's a rare thing to see a plot twist executed so beautifully.

Elementary is a comfort show for me. It's strange because it delves into a lot of deeper ideas of addiction which remind me of my own struggles with eating and soda consumption. BUT... if Holmes can find comfort and support in his partner, so can everyone.

i dont consider myself a 'fashion guru' by any means but one thing i will say is guys you dont need to know the specific brand an item you like is - you need to know what the item is called. very rarely does a brand matter, but knowing that pair of pants is called 'cargo' vs 'boot cut' or the names of dress styles is going to help you find clothes you like WAAAYYYY faster than brand shopping
