I made a uquiz to find out what member of a doomed spaceship crew you are, take it to find out what member of a doomed spaceship crew you are.
#engineer#i cannot put into words how much i loved this#some people can truly create art in the most unexpected places#the unsettling horror of it all is so good and then that last question#putting it on an actual timer? inspired.#and reading OPs comment about how people responded...ive never been more pleased by not being unique

It should have been Martha that John Smith falls in love with in Human Nature. Martha is always looking after him cuz the Doctor is in there and she promised to keep him safe but John interprets it as courtship and becomes totally enamored with this strange, out-of-place woman (he’s always felt out-of-place himself).
Martha gives in to the temptation of dating her crush but feels super guilty about taking advantage of him (insert the scene where she watches back his tape for guidance and is frustrated that the he didn’t consider falling in love, but this time it’s way more emotional) and it’s weird cuz John is similar to the Doctor in some ways but sometimes shockingly different (he could be racist like Joan but in a way where it actually has to be explored because he’s in love with her, or just find other ways to make him an undoctorlike type of prick).
When the time comes to open the watch, John tells Martha that the Doctor won’t love her in the same way. Martha tells him that there are more important things than romance. When they saw the vision of the future, it reinforced John’s desire to live, but it made Martha realize that this isn’t what she wants; she wants to return to her time, to be a doctor, to see her family again, and to have her friend back. John gets upset that she cares more about what she wants than about his life, his love for her, that she only ever loved him as a shadow of the Doctor. Martha tells him it’s his decision (her doctor ethics) but that the world needs the Doctor (“the world” clearly also means her). It seems like John is going to refuse but the same fakeout happens and the Doctor is back.
Once the Family of Blood is defeated, the Doctor apologizes to Martha for putting her in a tough spot and says that he didn’t know she fancied him. Martha says she’s over it now and that she missed having her friend around. The Doctor says that he doesn’t want to lose her forever, so the next time he asks too much of her she should just leave. Martha is like haha no way you could never ask too much of me bestie!!!! Roll credits.

Dunno how to put it properly into words but lately I find myself thinking more about that particular innocence of fairy tales, for lack of better word. Where a traveller in the middle of a field comes across an old woman with a scythe who is very clearly Death, but he treats her as any other auntie from the village. Or meeting a strange green-skinned man by the lake and sharing your loaf of bread with him when he asks because even though he's clearly not human, your mother's last words before you left home were to be kind to everyone. Where the old man in the forest rewards you for your help with nothing but a dove feather, and when you accept even such a seemingly useless reward with gratitude, on your way home you learn that it's turned to solid gold. Where supernatural beings never harm a person directly and every action against humans is a test of character, and every supernatural punishment is the result of a person bringing on their own demise through their own actions they could have avoided had they changed their ways. Where the hero wins for no other reason than that they were a good person. I don't have the braincells to describe this better right now but I wish modern fairy tales did this more instead of trying to be fantasy action movies.

I see writing tips on here all the time that are designed to help you work through writer's block or a lack of motivation: Write it badly. Set a timer. Build an outline. Have a word goal. And they're all great tips!
Except...they don't work for me. And I could never figure out why, which was always a little frustrating. Like, what am I supposed to do then?!
Until one day, I opened a WIP document and thought, "You know what? I'm going to write 2 sentences. I can write 2 sentences. Plus, if I do, that's 2 more than I wrote yesterday." And I did! I even wrote more than 2 because once I achieved that goal it felt easier. When I eventually hit a wall, I walked away for a bit, and, after some time had passed, I started it all over again.
Then it hit me: All of those other tips focus on volume writing and just getting it done, which was still putting a lot of pressure on myself and felt overwhelming.
...Which is the same problem I have when cleaning or doing any other big, nebulous task and don't know where to start. Because I have ADHD. I'm neurodivergent. You know how I learned to cope with cleaning? By breaking everything into smaller, manageable tasks to help me focus and keep me grounded. I'm not cleaning the kitchen. I'm emptying the dishwasher, gathering dirty dishes, refilling the dishwasher, wiping down the counter, putting the mail away, sweeping, taking out the recycling, etc.
Suddenly I had a new way to approach writing—a small, easily attainable goal I could latch onto—and it's been SUCH a relief. I'm actually making progress!
So if you're stuck, don't beat yourself up or feel bad you aren't writing 2000 words a day after reading a bunch of tips. Just write 2 sentences. You can do 2 sentences.

Yeah I saw the lovecraftian horrors and didn’t succumb to madness. What- no I’m not a cultist, James. For Christ’s sake. What you’re forgetting my friend is that HP Lovecraft wasn’t a flexible man. His brain simply wasn’t stretchy enough to take it all in. I however, have short term memory issues. Flexibility is the name of the game when you can’t remember if you ate lunch or not. What’s the size of the universe? Big. You knew that already, James. Come on now. You don’t need to witness the terrifying ocean at the base of the entirety of reality itself to know that. Pass the brandy.
