okay i had an epiphany in yoga class and it was this: the absolute nightmare deals with pain by attempting to eradicate anything that might cause them pain, whether by isolating themself or by seeking out some coping mechanism that they believe will make them invulnerable to pain. the sweaterboy, on the other hand, deals with pain by absorbing it, by calling it something else and letting it stay. the absolute nightmare says, “you’d be surprised what you can live without.” the sweaterboy says, “you’d be surprised what you can live with.”
