CAGD390 Week 11
Worked on more Doodle Poodle brand identity variations
Created vector hats based on illustrations to be used for seasonal branding (possibly pictured on bags or particular merch etc.). Arranged hats to suit the base poodle head model to act as a flexible/interchangeable aspect of the brand.
Tested some of the potential logos on a store sign mockup to get a better feel of what might appear best.

CAGD390 Week 10/11
Short animation testing:
Short animation involving the key mascots slowly popping out of the bottom of the screen, short blink motions and they both go back down.
The animation is created with the use of Procreate, with each layer acting as a frame. I initially illustrated the head of the poodle, then the facial features (started with eyes open) and then the lorikeet sitting on the top of the head. Next, I coloured the illustrations in, merged the outlines with the colours and shadings and created clipping masks (for some frames, I have manually erased some sections that sat outside the circle) to fit within the mint green circle.
Attempted GIF files
It appears that the GIFs lost some colours during exporting process for unknown reasons, it may be due to the details of the imagery.
vimeo
MP.4 appears to have no issues with colour loss in comparison to the previous GIF files.
In the case of the website, I will test the short animation with Adobe XD, using auto-animate as a method of creating a GIF-like effect when the ‘About’ page is clicked on.

CAGD390 Week 9/10
Continued with some research into branding, in particular, methods or steps required or needed to be considered when creating effective brand identities.
During the break, I worked on creating a few more identity designs, illustrative assets, potential merch stamp designs, website wireframe (home) and tested website loading animations and how they function.
Default Design (original):
- White poodle
- Simple A-line navy blue cotton dress
- Flowy navy ribbons (tied to each ear)
- Navy shoes to match
- Blue eyes, unless in simplified version, where the eyes are oval in shape are in black or grey.

Narrowing potential final logotype for ‘doodle poodle’
During this week, I tested out various colours and colour schemes that I am interested in using for the brand with the logotypes. The colours will have a pastel and vivid variation for the poodle and rainbow lorikeet respectively.
In addition, i spent my time finding the best font for ‘stationery’ to go with each logotype iteration. While with Parisine Office Std and Faricy New Regular, I used the most lightest/thinest variation available in the typeface families, with the handwritten logotype, I used Parisine Std Clair in regular.
Heading & body text sampling of four potential font family variations:
*Top Left & Right
Parisine Std Clair (Bold/Regular/Italics) & Boreal (Bold/Light/Light Italics)
*Bottom Left & Right
Nunito (Bold/Extra Light/Italics) & Ardoise Std (Demi/Thin/Extra Light Italics)

CAGD390 Week 7
Continuation of logotype & colour testing:
In continuation from the previous week, I used lower case forms for the letters and I believe that this seems to have much more appeal and flow with the rest of the text. With several iterations, I have added a pencil element to accentuate the concept of the store brand and its creative values.
In addition, I have made the poodle mascot in simple vector form with the use of a pen tool. I think that I will use a simplified version of the main mascot in the logotype (and when applied to other forms of business-based stationery etc.) Meanwhile, a more detailed version of the mascots will be available through products and advertising materials.
Faricy New Regular and Parisine Office Std presented in the images below are both modified, with the curved tails of the ‘l’ removed. Personally, I found them to be rather distracting to the overall text. This week, I have attempted various different arrangements of the logotype with the brand mark and tagline.

CAGD390 Week 6
Logotype & colour testing:
Details of logotype (MENLO):
- modified to get rid of the curve in the tail of the ‘l’ as it seems a little out of place
- worked best out of all the fonts in stacked form with all characters even
- turned ‘l’ into a pencil = aspirational elements of creativity
- rearranged the ‘l’ in ‘Doodle’ to have the pencil (pencil associates with ‘doodle’ = act of doodling with pencil as the tool)
- the ‘l’ in ‘Poodle’ remains as a normal ‘l’, did consider adding an element (dogs paw) to balance out the pencil in ‘Doodle’ but was a bit challenging so left it with the tagline

Details of Concept 2 & 3
- Potential logotype for Doodle Poodle
- Collating and looking at what font may be best suitable
Pt.6
Handwritten /Pen tracing of existing handwritten text from my notebook
*1, 2 & 3 stroke respectively
From the previous handwritten text, the ‘D’ and ‘P’ appear out of place in terms of both form and shape. As such, I have considered using lower case instead of capital forms. In the example above, I have duplicated and rearranged the ‘d’ into ‘p’ by flipping the letterform.

Project Proposal:
Doodle Poodle
Presented the proposal of ‘Doodle Poodle’ to the class with details on core concepts, a short brief and the required core components for the brand.
Feedback based on project proposal:
Extra:
Considering potential names for the characters based on what they are etc.
Figuring out how to characterise the Lorikeet in a particular style

CAGD390 Week 4
Did some research in tutorial
Was looking towards finding statistics and information on recreational reading and how it affects stress levels in people. Found that reading for a minimum of six minutes can reduce stress levels by 68% and has produced better results in comparison to drinking coffee and playing video games. This was based on a study in 2009 (a bit outdated but the most recent I could find).
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/5070874/Reading-can-help-reduce-stress.html
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Changed major project idea to branding system/identity for idea no.2 = Poodle Doodle (or Poodle Doodle/ Doodle Poodle) Stationary.
Retail-based identity design
Considering hand-drawn element to the logotype to emphasise the significance of ‘doodle’ to the action of an everyday task -> writing things -> stationery = stationery shop etc.
Later found that there was a pet boutique with the name ‘Poodle Doodle’ and Pinky Doodle Poodle, is also the name of a specific poodle breed. As a result I have changed the name slightly to Doodle Poodle Stationery = i.e a Doodling Poodle and not a Poodle Doodle.

CAGD390 Week 3
Major project development:
Based on convo:
Making three iterations of illustrative interpretations of two selected classic poems that are available through public domain source(s) = https://www.public-domain-poetry.com/.
1. The layered = collage
2. The handmade = traditional forms of illustration
3. The grounded = vector illustration
-> would require the afore mentioned three iterations of imagery for two poems = result in at least six pages?
Research:
- Thinking grid and publication design = Josef Müller-Brockmann and Timothy Samara as key design models.
