Bun-O Fujisawa's Dramatic Stage Reading MARS RED to Get TV Anime Adaptation in 2021

A TV anime adaptation of Bun-o Fujisawa's original dramatic stage reading MARS RED is confirmed to be in the works for a premiere in 2021. This is the first time that an original stage reading has been adapted into anime in history. In addition to the anime, other mixed-media projects inspired by the play are also planned.

  Based on his own original story, the play MARS RED was written and directed by Fujisawa. The story is set in the Taisho period, and centers on vampires who are infected with a "vampire virus" and employed by the government as invincible super-soldiers. Its manga adaptation illustrated by Kemuri Karakara (Laughing Under the Clouds), who also provided a main visual for the play, has been serialized in Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Garden since November 2019.

  The TV anime adaptation is directed by Kouhei Hatano (Dragon Ball Super co-series director), alongside series composition writer Junichi Fujisaku (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Blood series). Yukari Takeuchi (Norn9) designs the anime characters based on the original designs provided by Kemuri Karakara. The play's original creator Fujisawa himself serves as the sound director. SIGNAL.MD (Napping Princess) works on anime production.

[ Game Story ]

Early twentieth century, Japan - the flowering era of Taisho influenced by Romanticism.

As the nation prospered in modernization, some species were outcasted and stood at the crossroads of their lives.

They were - vampires.

Although they possessed superhuman physical abilities, they would burn under the sun and only lived off of blood. They suffered from having keen senses, and most of them could not adjust to their eternal life.

Thus - they were vulnerable species.

This is a story about a young man named Yatsufusa, who became a vampire against his will and seeks the meaning of life as he encounters different people and species surrounding him.
