Nanna ran his pantheon on three separate occasions, ousting control from his grandfather, Anu and in turn his father, Enlil. The second being the longest ruling period until he stupidly believed his brothers that his father would not take control from them.
He never sought to have the power of ruling his pantheon, never wanted to take a "superior" position over his family. But it was out of necessity and to keep his children and wife safe from internal struggles. Nanna accidentally on purpose instilled a strong sense of self and purpose into his children, which resulted in most of them serving high positions in their godhoods.
Whenever he saw their positions threatened, or the blatant abuses of power that his grandfather and father were prone to, he would step in. Being a primordial lunar god made Nanna both powerful and feared.
All he truly wanted was to be left alone but he could never just sit back and watch others suffer. Especially when it began to directly involve his children.
#{dash commentary -ooc-}#{Nanna -commentary-}#{Nanna -headcanon-}#~just a lil tidbit about the number of times Nanna had to go kick ass and take names from his fam#~his pantheon is a lot more of a mess than most mythology will reveal#~Nanna often says that they're just as bad if not worse than the greeks#~but theyre just better at hiding it
