Zoo Negara, the national zoo of Malaysia, is located at Gombak District. It is only ten mins distance (by car) from Batu Caves. Therefore, I visited both places in one day (Batu Caves in the morning and Zoo Negara in the afternoon). Food in this area is very limited, so I brought some snacks for this trip. If you would like to purchase drinking water, I encourage you to do so in Batu Caves which only cost RM 1 for 500 ml. It costs RM 4 in Zoo Negara and you would not like it.
There are about 400 species of animals in Zoo Negara, and we get to have a close contact to some of the birds. Visiting zoo was amazing, it made me feel like all cartoon characters had turn into life. Thanking myself for making the decision to visit it alone, instead of waiting for the unsure ‘next time’. Majority of my friends did not like to walk for a long time and Zoo Negara is big! According to Wikipedia, Zoo Negara is about 110 acres of land. Apart from that, some of them thought the entrance ticket is expensive.
Well, after I visit the zoo, I can told you that it is worthy! Malaysians: RM 45 Foreigners: It varies from RM 50 to RM 82 Please visit [Zoo Negara official page] to know the details.
Zoo Negara is managed by non-governmental organisation. Few months ago, I read an article saying Zoo Negara was lack of visitors, total income might not be sufficient to cover total expenses. Not sure if the article is true or a fake one, I would love to the team to have more income to continue taking good care of the animals.
The experience of observing animals right in front of us was incredible, it was just like watching a live version of Discovery Channel. It is difficult for me to describe the feelings here and I hope you are going to visit your nearest zoo soon! If you are in Malaysia, please visit our national zoo. It has varieties of rainforest animals. You will be surprised!
I thought I missed the animal show and about to leave. Then I heard mic was on and the MC started to call visitors to join the show. Lucky enough to join the show! Hoping all the animals are treated well. (I am very concerned about animal abuse and afraid trained animals was poorly treated during their training)
Oh, this was how close you can contact with the birds. I could go closer but I dare not to. There are really big! If they straighten their neck, I estimate the tip of their mouth can at least reach my shoulder (I am 164 cm tall).
This was the last trip I had in Selangor before my last semester ended. Mixed feelings when I was on my way back to hostel, thinking of the changes I made since my first day of university until now, from a helpless young adult to a confident young lady. I used to be afraid of being alone in my first year of studies. However as time goes by, I realised the importance of staying alone and I love it! It does not mean that we do not need family, friends or partner. We have to find the balance between spending time with them and with ourselves. Too much social or frequent spending time alone is unhealthy. Hope you have found your balancing point.
This domestic solo trip is a practice of international solo trip to me. Wish to earn enough money to spend a week in other country soon!
Till then, xx.
