August is a tremendously talented mage,” his eyes briefly shoot over at Cirillo as he whispers, “Though some people like to take advantage of that.”

Cirillo, who has been softly speaking to August, goes rigid.

“But,” Royal continues, “I like to think they’ll come through and help him in his time of need, if ever there is one.”

“You think so?”

“It’s nice to hope,” he mutters with a sad smile, moving to stand by August.

Jade: Your favourite relationship between two characters.

Ooooh, this is a difficult one. I'd say my favourite platonic relationship has to be between Safi and Kadan because I love writing them, but favourite romantic relationship it's a tie between Safi/Jesse and Kadan/Willow! Safi and Jesse I've had for longer so I've got a stronger attachment to their relationship, but I love Willow and Kadan's dynamic 🥺

Ruby: Is there any symbolism used in your wip?

There's definitely symbolic colours in terms of the main cast (and when it comes to the colour of each person's magic), particularly with Willow's colour being yellow and her being the kindest main character, while Kadan's colour is green and he can be quite jaded (hah) and struggle with jealousy.

Tiger's Eye: What are the tropes of your main cast?

For the four of them together, they definitely fall under the "true companions" trope! Safi's tropes generally revolve around being a reluctant/accidental hero, Kadan's around not being seen as the main hero, Jesse's are to do with being slow to trust and scared to form close connections, and Willow's revolve around loving people and animals and always wanting to do good!

Heads Up Seven Up Tag

I was tagged by @zmlorenz (a little while ago) thank you!!

so this is from the Book of Veitau Part I, a short compilation of myths from Veitaunese mythology (which is what the people from my wip Of Time and Wonders used to believe in)

In the everlasting darkness amid the flickering stars, there were two lost lovers yearning to unite. One was Nua, the Goddess of Night and Afterlife, of everything that surrounded them at the time, of that which could not be seen, that which could not be known, that which would never come to light. Then there was Yume, Goddess of Today, who was everything Nua was not: the present, the here and now and every slipping moment, a single breath of life and light, who did not remember, did not learn, but simply knew. It was engraved on their skins, hearts, and bones that they were different to the core.

Yume embodied the joyful disc florets in the magnificent constellation of the Sunflower. Nua, on the other hand, appeared as the brightest star of a bewitching flute; its plaintive sound was said to be dulcet and lilting and mellow, sweet and soft as the half-light.

Last Line Tag LXXXI

Her Golden Eyes

When I first opened my eyes, the world was quiet. With every blink after that, they threw conspiracies my way. Was I a witch? A fae? Was I blessed or cursed? All because of the colour of my eyes. I ran my finger over the surface of the water, letting the gold reflection shimmer the way sunlight did. I sighed and lay back in the grass, letting my skin warm in the sun. After almost 20 years, I still hadn't answered any of those questions myself. 

Thats literally all I've written so far, so enjoy!!

(I think this might be the first ask I’ve ever answered on this blog so yay thank you xx)

40. What is the most random fact you’ve learned while doing research for a story?

Some places in New Zealand experience over 2,300 hours of sunlight a year & their low air pollution can cause people to sunburn quicker and worse.

8. What writing projects are you currently working on?

Hooooooo boy okay so I went through a m a j o r writing slump for the last two or three years and over the past few months I’ve started regaining my traction.  So all of my wips are more like nuggets, characters, & vibes that I want to begin properly developing this year.  SO all that being said (the backstory no one asked for lol) these are all of the ideas I have floating around I want to work on:

Stray Kids [placeholder]

Follows a team in a magic guild on their misadventures.  The main girl’s magic changes all the time but currently she manipulates shadows; one teammate is a dragon shapeshifter with a proclivity for fire; another teammate has telekinesis but only works on nonliving things (she’s very good with knives); and the other characters I’m still deciding on powers for. Plot?  What plot?  I don’t know her. But I’ve had some of these characters around in my head for years and I finally want to sit down and write the story they deserve - whatever that ends up being.

Unnamed WIP(s)

1. After a princess’s throne is wrongfully stolen from her, she hires of team of notorious girls from across the kingdom to help her reclaim what is rightfully hers.

2. In this kingdom, each region has its own leader but every few years they hold a competition to see which one will become ruler over the whole kingdom. When the current ruler is murdered under mysterious circumstances, their son must fight in their stead in the new competition and seeks help in unlikely places.

Like I said earlier, all of these are nuggets of stories and will probably look nothing like these blurbs when I actually start writing them. I might even combine & move around some parts but who knows haha

WTW CHARACTER WEEK | ANTAGONISTS

His eyes are what mark him as his mother's son. Aetier's rightful son. And so he must hide them lest the evil emperor know his name and pluck his pretty eyes to add to his collection.

PRESENTING... Aretos vi Aetier, son of the fallen imperessa Astaria-- or so he claims. It is difficult to believe the words of a man with so many names, and so many faces.

Some knew him as the peasant boy Cyril Lydus. Others, the enigmatic noble Sartore Vitae. Many knew him as the masked figure Kaenis, the hidden mastermind behind Isandros of Hesperia's rebellion.

Whatever his identity, he has sworn himself to be the sword of vengeance. The Vasilier's head is his, and he will not rest until he gets what he's owed.

It is easy to pretend because he knows, one day, he won't have to anymore. That someday in the future, when he is older and stronger, he can burnt his strip of cloth in his hands and march all the way to the throne that should be his. And when he gets there he will slay the evil emperor and burn the grotesque glass box to ashes and cinders so that his uncles, his aunts, and especially his mama can finally see that Aretos has avenged them. Can see that Aretos has done what he was born to do.

HALLWAY

A young woman entered first, buzzing with energy. She appeared to be a few years older than Jane, and was wearing her tight black curls in a fancy updo above her pale green court dress. “Are you okay? How strong was the earthquake here? Obviously it was strong enough to bring down the old alchemy chimney, but that was already falling apart. It shook the whole Citadel, enough that a few of the less-steady people had trouble staying on their feet. And why are you dressed like that? You’re clearly not exercising.”

“Pavia, you have to give him a chance to answer one question before you throw another at him,” a man said from the hallway.

“He’ll catch up eventually,” the woman said. She tapped Jane’s captor on the nose, to his apparent annoyance. “He always does.”

LEAN

“You want her to be in the party?” Mr. Dyer demanded, gesturing to Jane. “The party that’s going to be retrieving priceless artifacts from the Duchy’s history. You want the woman who was a career thief two days ago to be part of that?”

“Yes, that’s what I said, keep up.”

He deflated, and leaned heavily on the table, but kept quiet.

TIME

“Looking like I’m not listening is part of my job,” [Kell] replied, managing a weak smile.

She studied him. “Are you okay?”

“I spent too much time in the sun. It’s just a headache. It’ll go away soon,” he said.

A shout went up at a nearby table and he winced.

Jane frowned. It seemed like more than a minor headache, but she didn’t know him well enough to challenge him on matters of his own health.

STEAL

“Wizard Naetris said the Chalice is beneath the Fort,” Mr. Dyer said. “Protected by some sort of wards.”

“The records didn’t specify further?” Jane asked.

He shook his head. “The more details they recorded, the more likely someone acting against them could find it and steal it.”

“And how are the good guys supposed to find it?”

DROP

A stick snapped to her right. She dropped into a crouch, searching the area the noise had come from. Trees and rocks and bushes, but nothing alive, nothing moving. No—there, the toe of a leather boot behind a tree. Was someone following them? Watching them out of curiosity? There was only one way to find out.

Meira steers past me, lugging her suitcase with both hands. “I can’t believe Althaia gets to just stand there while I have to put everything away myself,” she complains over her shoulder to Kadison, who watches on with no sympathy.

Scratch

“Sorry for taking so long,” I say sarcastically, scratching the back of my neck. It can’t be night already, can it?

Rain

Kadison steps aside and I jump down, stretching out my limbs and back. Three days of travelling with still more to go. My shoulders slump at the thought.

At least it’s not raining.

Fix

Cirillo comes beside me, eyes fixed on all the people running past. He says nothing, but his furrowed brow speaks volumes.

Light

“I don’t mind the castle…” I admit slowly, “But it could stand to lose some of the people there.”

“How rude. Novalie lives there.” Meira scoffs teasingly, diverting from the path to where sparky lamps fizzle out light and color over the silhouette of horses and carriage. “Besides, the nobles aren’t wholly bad.”

Ash

ended up a nurse mostly by accident. Not that it isn’t interesting, it’s just... not where xie saw xirself going

from a rich family but isn’t currently in communication with them

frequently dyes xir hair because xie gets bored of an evening. Xie needs something to do while watching TV

mostly works the kids’ ward because xie’s really good with them, gets super excited about their interests and engages at their level

has a motorbike, doesn’t own a single piece of leather clothing

Katie

super sporty but not on the school teams

works in a coffee shop on Sundays

Old family but failing money, still getting invited to all the fancy events

slow to adapt to change & anything out of the ordinary

has been caught fingerknitting in class, while the teacher’s been going over notes on the board

This is juicy stuff! I love it! I’ve also got a bit of a twist on the whole Lost/Secret Heir trope, and it definitely has something to do with one of the major villains in the story!
