What do we think about or talk about when we think or talk about home?

Home is a slippery term, as it can mean dwelling,structure, place of origin, habitation, locality, target or goal.

To Christian Newcomer, an 18th century Swiss emigrant to my corner of Appalachia, it was a safe harbor.

How big or small are the differences between our perceptions of home.

This little French fold zine contrasts images of Appalachia , (some original, some from family archives) with caricatures drawn by Chicago born cartoonist Billy Debeck, creator of the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith comics.

For almost 60 years these comics have reinforced certain narratives about Appalachia that at best lack nuance and at worst perpetuate stereotypes.

People and places are complex, homes are too.

This little zine, with no larger aim than poetic response, is my stab at sorting out what I think about when I think about home.

Sure good time.

Zines have been my hobby for over 25 years. @alana_tattoos started fulfilling my requests for silly zine tattoos 9 years ago and my right leg is almost full and I want more! Some of the sites you will see here on my zine leg sleeve: a photocopier, an old school Kinko's counter, a mail box, envelope, a saddle stitch stapler, a staple remove that looks like a snake head along with bent Staples as filler, scissors, gluestick, washi tape with traditional tattoo imagery on the wash tape, a tiny zine, a cutting board, a brain for brainscan zines, and a Sharpie for Stolen Sharpie Revolution.
