i love bucktommy but the only thing i cant get over is that i was reading a great bucktommy fic once, amazing even, except for the fact that tommy lived on the venice canals???? and it took me so out of the fic because i just couldn't get over the fact that he lived there. on the venice canals???? on firefighter's salary???? even if he bought it in the 08' recession, there is no way he could afford that. and like i guess my question is, does 911 take place in an alternate universe where the housing market is cheaper in la and if it does, how do i get to that universe?

My mother confuses the fuck out of me
#i guess she's getting severance checks from her old job?#i mean fuck that's the least they could do after she worked there for 40 years#she only gets 900 a month from my dad's SSI survivor benefits#she went from saying we're struggling financially to suddenly offering to pay for shit i need#that kinda scares me because i think that means she's impulsively spending her savings. which could mean she thinks she's gonna die soon#she's 64 and my dad died at almost 63#like she helped my sister buy my niece a car. it's a 24 year old vehicle and only costed 4k and she paid 2k but 2k is a LOT to us#she said she's been saving my rent money to fix my car for the past couple of months on top of me saving for it#which means we definitely have the money to fix everything by now#but that's not happening all my tires still need to be replaced my ac doesn't work it's making clinking sounds#it stalled while i was driving the other day but turning it off and restarting it fixes it#anyway. the thing is I'm always sus about my mom offering shit.#she likes to hold shit over your head.#I'm very worried that she's gonna fix my car and then use that to control me in some way. because that's how it is every time.#but like.....it's better than not having the help. fuck.#i feel so privileged despite how broke and disabled i am. bc most disabled people dont have this to fall back on#the craziest thing is that the only reason we have this house is bc of my grandparents' inheritance#and neither of them went to college my grandpa was in the army#and my grandma only temporarily worked for jc penney as a bookkeeper#side note my 80 year old grandma was better with computers than most elderly people are today#just from that job? from what i know#when she died my family sold the family house and that's how we put the down payment on this house#which btw only costed 64k in 2012 apparently it's worth 175k now according to zillow#but like. how. i feel like my family being white and christian is the only reason we have all this privilege#i have a headache bye#.bdo

so i think we uh. got an apartment?
#havent signed the lease yet so it like. doesnt feel real but#we toured it. its real and not a scam. i think the owners that are renting out their apartment dont speak much english#so they have a middle man speaking for them via the phone and i didnt know that so i feel better now#idk it just took us so long to save this money and if i get scammed out of it that might be the final straw 😭😭😭😭#but i think we did it i think we got an apartment it just doesnt feel real yet lol#when my mom and j were searching all those years ago (if anyone whos been here long enough remember) we searched for MONTHS#with constant nos and dwindling funds due to the application fees#this time we got approved literally 6 minutes after we sent our zillow applications so u can understand why i was wary#sorry for info dumping about my life but idk thays whats fun abt tumblr tags heehe#i like that the previous tenant and i were just kinda like 😐😐 at eachother the whole time

Landlords are bastards, whether they own one building or one thousand. We know this. I'm not arguing that point.
But does it change anything if they live in the building with you?
Like, person renting out a few rooms in their house, person renting out half their duplex, person with a too-big condo renting it out. Still landlord bastardry, or something more complicated?
#personal#shitpost#this is entirely hypothetical at this point#but i'd be the one renting the place out not the renter#just daydreaming on zillow and if i leave chicagoland houses can be wild cheap#like one place is 5 bedrooms for $110k#and like. fuck. i am one person. i absolutely do not need a 5 bedroom house#but also it seems silly to rule a place out for having too much space y'know?#or i've seen a few listings where it's a duplex and they're very clear that you can live in both or rent both or one of each#and i'd probably only need half the duplex#but why rule it out for that right?#the condo one is really hypothetical tbh the places i'm drooling over don't have condos as a rule

#emergency commissions having so many people on the brink of homelessness should fucking piss us all off. These artists want just one thing and that is to live doing their craft. There's nothing wrong with begging us for money in the event of an emergency nor is it wrong of us to withhold money while we deal with emergencies of our own. Though if you can help please do.
But you know who is in the wrong? Sites like Zillow that are collaborating to make rent prices higher. Fuck ass landlords who provide inadequate shelter at insane prices. How is it going to cost $1000 for an apartment with a fuck ass shower head that doesn't work and light switches that are painted over? We need rent control.
We can contact our state legislators and our congressmen, with friends and family, to pressure them into passing bills that will put a control on rent.
We don't have the money to help these people because our landlords stole it from us. I am enraged and you should be too. Every time you see something you can't buy, think of how your landlord is getting a new boat. Every time you see an artist struggling to pay rent think about how the landlords have several houses that they are raising rent on. And for those parents whose adult offspring still live with them, you should be angry at legislators for not making it so that they can even rent. You should be angry. You have been robbed. Stop these landlords from robbing you.
