The ghost light is mainly used for safety, after the show is over and everything is shut down. So you can navigate the stage, avoid falling into the orchestra pit, tripping over or walking into the set. It’s there to guide the first and last person into and out of the theater. There are some superstitions of course; to keep out mischievous and resentful spirits, or to appease ghosts so they have light to perform. I like to think of it as a reminder of what a gift it is that we get to do what we do. A reminder of those who have tread the boards before us and all those to come. The beasts, knights, heroes, damsels, villains, dames, Kings, Queens, and Gods. Played by the best and the worst of us. A reminder how short life is, but that much shorter for the thespian. My dear Frolic Family, thank you. From now on, every time I see a ghost light, I will think of you all with such fondness and love.
