MM Classpecting: Jaehee

Zen Classpect

Jaehee:

Personality/General Info: Kind and hardworking. Independent, serious, and caring. Has own sense of humor. Organized. Dislikes when things are not according to schedule, or receives extra work. She is responsible, so she deals with it anyway. Works at C&R with Jumin, her boss. She is Catholic. Likes Zen and his musicals. Likes coffee, to the point she develops a big enough passion to open up a cafe in her route. Hates cat hair. Is the most suspicious member of MC when she first joins the RFA. Becomes protective over Zen’s career. Jumin trusts Jaehee, but she gets frustrated with him. Still loyal though. Doesn’t like Yoosung’s game addiction, but cares about him. He sees her as an older sister. With 707 she respects his work abilities, but is exasperated by his jokes. Short hair and glasses due to her job, because Jumin is worried that his father would flirt with her otherwise.

Jaehee’s mom married her father, who was 20 years older than her. He dies, then her mother when she was in the 9th grade. She is sent to be raised by her aunt and uncle. Gets scholarship to university and graduated early. V talked to Jumin and proposed the idea of hiring Jaehee into the RFA.

Role in Narrative: She is far away from the main plot, due to her lack of connection to Rika/V/707. In her route, her character arc is taking a risk and following her dreams. Stability may be safe (Job at C&R), but it’s killing her. Following her passion for coffee is risky, but having freedom to do what she wants matters more. Her childhood led to this need for stability, losing both her parents made her want to not be a burden to her uncle and aunt. She tried to do everything right in life: study, get into a good university and a good job. She has stability but she isn’t happy, slaving away at a demanding job for both C&R and RFA. She is the player’s breather route between the madness that is all of Mystic Messenger. In main story she supports the RFA with tedious paperwork matters, helping in the efforts for the Mint Eye mission. A supporting role along with Jumin.

Active or Passive: She studied hard, got a scholarship and started working at C&R all for the purpose of supporting herself. This is a selfish act (not the negative connotation of the word btw). She defends Zen often and supports him relentlessly, buying tickets to support him, which is selfless. She does a lot for the RFA and C&R. She does alot in the SEs with the Mint Eye mission, not for her sake, but for the RFA’s. Purely looking at what she does in the main plot (DS, 707 Route and SE), she is passive.

Classpect - Sylph of Mind: One who makes Mind, or makes through Mind for others.

How this applies to Jaehee: Jaehee does want to know what is happening around her, being the one who is most concerned about MC joining the RFA, for example, or needling Jumin if he fails to show up to work, trying to figure out wth is going on. In Zen’s route, she pries into his business alot when MC and Zen start showing romantic interest, even though Zen’s relationship is up to him, and she should have stayed out of it. Constantly suggested to go over to Zen’s house to help him when he was injured, even though MC could go instead. She is passionate about his musicals, excitedly rambling about it if MC shows interest in it (its so cute when she does this in phone calls <3). This is in contrast to how she usually is like to people she is not close with, formal and rigid. Same goes for coffee, where she obsessively starts researching deeply into it. Compared to the other RFA members, her relevance in the main story is little to none, being the farthest from Rika and V. Still, she is an indispensable member of the RFA, keeping a lot of it running in the sidelines.

A restrained Sylph can fade from relevancy, and I think she is looking at the main story. Her full potential can be seen in her own route. Working for C&R doesn't give her the chance to shine completely.

This is what the Hiveswap Extended Zodiac has to say about the Mind Aspect:

“Those bound to the aspect of Mind are-you guessed it-the universe's great thinkers. But don't for a second think that means that they have all the answers. They are very concerned with remaining rational, and they have such a firm hold on the constant conjunction of their thinking that it's easy for them to see the multitudes of the choices laid out before them, which often leaves them frozen and unable to act. That said, when a Mind-bound finally launches into action, they can execute a plan with unbelievable grace and precision. Their identity is fluid-it can change from day-to-day, from thought-to-thought, from interaction-to-interaction. At their worst they can be nasty, inflexible, and indecisive.”

I think Mind is all about choices, thoughts, apathy and another way of viewing 'identity'.

How this applies to Jaehee: Jaehee is a logical and practical person. That is what lead her to where she is in the beginning of MM: working for C&R. She gets sick of all of the work she must undertake, but she she is frozen, afraid of quitting the stability of her job. When she does take action, though, she gets things done. Her role in backing up Jumin for the Mint Eye mission is indispensable. Not only that, but her management of the affairs of both RFA and C&R cannot be understated. She isn't easily replaceable either, as seen when Yoosung or MC tries to take on her role in some bad endings. She can be inflexible at times, an example being in Zen's route and her staunch refusal to let Zen date MC. She thinks its for his own good, but in this case she should listen to what Zen wants (traits seen in Sylphs as I've said before).

As the person furthest away from Rika and V, she has the least emotional investment in all this. This could be part of why she can make decisions without letting emotions cloud her judgement, like Yoosung. She encourages the other members to not be rash, to think through their decisions, even when everything gets intense with the hacker situation or Mint Eye.

Jaehee's Aspect is the opposite of Yoosung's, but both Aspects seem to focus on 'identity' or 'the self'. In Jaehee's case, her sense of self does fluctuate depending on who she speaks to. When MC brings up her love of Zen's musicals, her demeanor switches completely, absolutely elated to discuss her interests (attributes of Sylphs too). With Yoosung, she is gentle, treating him like a younger brother. With Jumin it is all professional, because he is her boss of course. It's difficult to tell which of these are the 'real Jaehee', when in reality her identity is just fluid like that.

Another point to how she acts based primarily based on logic despite her actual wants: Her wearing glasses and her short hair is all for the sake of her job. Jumin instructed her to do this so that Chairman Han doesn't flirt with her. She agrees to this as we see, because it is the logical thing to do. In order to have this job she must meet this dress-code, and she is willing to do this regardless of her real preference. And I do believe her REAL preference is having long hair and no glasses. We see this in her route when she stops wearing her glasses, since she never needed them to see. In her AE and Valentine's Day DLC we see her grow out her hair, showing that now outside of C&R this is how she prefers to present herself. She even looked like this in older pictures of her in-game, back when she was living with her aunt and uncle.

Looking at Jaehee's route, we see how she finally finds a passion for a coffee project, obsessively researching into it (Sylph). Jumin tells her to stop working on it and to focus on another project, but she has difficulty letting it go. For once, she is hesitant to just do what is asked of her, wanting to pursue this coffee interest. Her route focuses a lot on choices, and how Jaehee is at the cusp of making a big one: quitting her job to start-up a cafe. The logical part of her knows how risky it is, and struggles to decide on what to do. She is at a loss, but Zen and MC are there for her, helping her come to a decision. Zen gets her a coffee machine, and ultimately gets her to become less detached to her situation: the fact that she isn't happy with her current place in life. Jaehee reflects on all the choices she's made up to this point, thinking that that was what she was 'supposed' to do, according to society, in order to be happy. In a way, she thought that life was happening to her, when in fact she does have a choice. Her life was shaped by all the decisions she has made, and now it is no different. She gains courage and eventually does start that cafe with MC. In fact, it is successful. In the VD DLC, MC and Jaehee are constantly coming up with new menu options, and Jaehee looks at the recipes and logically thinks about the amount of ingredients, the ratio of them, etc, etc. She wants to improve on everything constantly by adjusting it. She is able to use the knowledge and experience she accumulated from C&R to her benefit.

Her route is less relevant to her role as a Sylph, since in her character arc she is more Active, where she is starting to become more selfish and less selfless. She is more of a Maid of Time/Maid of Mind solely based on her character arc. Though, her Mind Aspect is very prominent here, which is why I wanted to highlight her arc.

As a Sylph of Mind she is making, expanding, improving her Aspect. Since Jaehee is Jumin's assistant, you could say she improves Mind (I.e decisions for the Mint Eye mission). When she sees a lack of Mind somewhere, she will fix it.

Jaehee is a good example for why I think focusing on the character's role in the main narrative is so important. If you only look at Jaehee's route, you can easily gives her a different classpect. A Maid of Time suits the Jaehee we see in her route, making more Time for herself. Or a Maid of Mind, making Mind for herself, essentially making good choices for herself, which we see.

All in all, Jaehee Kang as Jumin Han's assistant is a Sylph of Mind.

After you start dating though he absolutely loves it. He didn't realize how much he loved being hugged or kissed until he met you!

He finds it pretty funny whenever you get mad and go on a swearing spree, especially when you hit your foot or elbow against something. You just start yelling and curing their mother, their father and their children, and he just loves you so much, it's weird, but he loves it.

Whenever you are having a bad day she will cheer you up by making you your favorite foods!

On Christmas she makes a mix between korean and latin foods that you both enjoy, her favorite, of course are tamales! (Who doesn't love tamales, also they're a MUST for Christmas akkssnsn)

She also likes cooking you for breakfast gallo pinto (it's basically rice and beans but it's friggin delicious.)

Some of her favorite's are chalupas and chifrijo too!

listen you basically won the lottery with this woman, she is such a GOOD cook and she makes the most delicious food.

Sometimes you will find her in the kitchen trying to sign some of her favorite songs. She only knows the chorus but she definitely has the spirit!

Listen, it's already been confirmed that Jumin has seen a few soap operas (and been influenced by them hence the kiss scene in his route ajsjsjsj)

Now k-dramas can be pretty dramatic.

BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE SPANISH TELENOVELAS!?

Seriously if you get this man near them there's no telling what he'll do.

Our sweet and adorable Jumin can get influenced by Tv like that pretty easily, let's admit it, so at one point you may wake up and be in a spanish telenovela lmao

Honestly, when it all started, you were chilling at Jumin's place, ironically watching (but actually who are we kidding, you were pretty invested) one of the stupidest telenovelas you had seen in a while. You loved making fun of the characters and watching as chaos unfolded. It eventually became a routine and every Thursday you'd sit on your couch and stream the new episode.

That day Jumin came home early, and he saw you watching TV. You kissed him to welcome him home, but kept your eyes on the dramatic 'cat fight' scene on the tv. Jumin got pretty curious about what you were watching, and so he sat beside you, watching the whole episode in silence.

Once it was done, you felt a bit shaken up by the cliffhanger, but then got up to make some dinner. However, before you could leave Jumin grabbed your hand making yoy raise an eyebrow, confused.

"Jumin? What's wrong?"

"....MC. Why are you leaving? The show hasn't ended yet, has it? We still don't know what happened to Emilio, and Maria still hasn't figured out that Elena tricked her into leaving. Not only that, the 'salon' is about to close down. Love, we have to keep watching to find out what happens."

You let out a laugh and squeezed your boyfriend's cheeks. "Jumin! I didn't know you got so into it. Well sadly, the next episode comes out until next week so we'll have to wait. I can record it though, and wait till you come home so we can maybe watch it together?"

Jumin nodded and you couldn't help but compare him to an excited child that had suddenly found their favorite TV show. Soon, every Thursday the two of you would cuddle in bed together and watch another episode of the soap opera. Jumin enjoyed those moments so much. Not only because he was focused on the story, but because he loved the way you would suddenly gasp or randomly curse at the screen whenever something happened

Saeyoung:

Ohhh boy

You should have never told him about every single leyend that you grew up with as a child.

One day you were sharing with the RFA about all the spooky ghost stories, since Jumin had been asking about a few of them.

Saeyoung came in, heard spooky ghost stories and was immediately sold. That night you told him about La Segua, La Llorona, El Cadejos and more.

The thing is, you were not prepared for the chaos you had suddenly unleashed upon the world.

The next day while Saeyoung played LOLOL with Yoosung, you heard him retelling one of his favorite leyends that you had told him.

La Segua. The story was about a woman that would appear before sunset, asking for help with directions. The thing is, as soon as you helped her and night came, she'd turn into a horse and kill you. (I know it's weird AKSKSJA but I remember being SO scared of this when I was a kid, honestly these legends are so freaking good lmao, everyone in primary school would just be scared of a lady with a horse head pfttttttt)

As soon as you heard him tell the story to Yoosung, you knew that he was planning something. And were you going to stop him? No :D

A few days later, you invited Yoosung out to eat. As the sun was setting you led him towards Saeyoung's home, and then while you walked you met up with a very beautiful lady asking for directions. Yoosung immediately said 'nope' and tried to get you to quickly run away, but you insisted on helping the poor woman. After calming down a very shaken Yoosung, you explained that La Segua was just a story, and that Saeyoung was poebably just trying to spook him when he told it to him. Yoosung calmed down and apologized to the lady, offering to help her go home.

Suddenly you ended up in a very deserted place, making Yoousng feel a bit uneasy. As Yoosung walked, he turned around to tell you something along the lines of 'fuck this, let's go back to Saeyoung's.' he found that there was nothing behind him. He looked around, trying to look for you, but you appeared to have suddnely vanished.

Yoosung felt his throat get dry as the woman's arm tightened around his, and he tried to look anywhere but beside him

"Yoosung~" the woman whispered.

He yelped as he slowly turned around to look at the woman.

And he found a horse head staring back at him.

Later both you and Saeyoung had to look for him for about an hour and a half, and you found him under a bridge, shaking.

Yoosung did not find it funny at all, and you tried to nag Saeyoung telling him that maybe you had taken it too far, but you both couldn't help but laugh.

Of course you made it up to him, Saeyoung got him very exclusive Lolol costumes for his avatars, and Yoosung, even though he developed a trauma for both women and horses, ended up forgiving him and totally forgetting about the incident.

So the next time Saeyoung told him about La Llorona and gave you a mischievous smirk, you prayed for poor and innocent Yoosung, who obviously hadn't learned his lesson.

(this also happened a few more times until you had to intervene bc by now Yoosung wouldn't even go outside pfttt)

Also a few years later, while at the RFA Halloween party, Yoosung got stuck on the top of a tree and wouldn't come down.

Why you may ask? Because as he was drinking some wine, he felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around to find a big ass horse head staring back at him.

The Morning Of - Zen

Summary: You and Zen are getting ready for the RFA party together. There’s a lot of excitement and nerves, but mainly Zen being a simp

PSA that I haven’t played the Zen route in a while so if I mess something up I am sorry

It was 8:15 am. Zen had just gotten through the door from picking up his outfit for the party. He had called you just a minute ago. You met him at the door.

“Zenny!” You called. Seeing him made your heart flutter. It was strange how you hadn’t known him for long, but it felt like a lifetime together. He grinned, arms out to scoop you into a hug. You dodged his actions and took the hanger with his suit on it from his hands, sweeping to the side to hang it on the coat rack so that it wouldn’t get wrinkled and messed up from your embrace.

Then you latched onto him, jumping into his arms to give him a hug, which he happily reciprocated. “I love you,” he whispered in your ear, pulling you as close as possible. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too. I missed you.”

He set you down, arms still wrapped around your waist to keep you close to him. He pouted. “I should’ve taken you with me. But you were so cute fast asleep!”

“I still can’t believe you had me sleep in your bed and took the couch,” you rolled your eyes playfully. “We could’ve cuddled.”

His cheeks turned a light shade of red. “I was... nervous to share a bed with you.” He couldn’t meet your eye. “Maybe next time.”

You frowned. Was he... forgetting you didn’t have a place to go back to? “I... is tonight not next time? You kicking me out?”

“What!? Of course not.” He finally let go of you, grabbing his outfit and taking it to hang in his bedroom. “As long as you wanna stay tonight too. There’s no pressure for you to find a new place. Actually, I wouldn’t mind you living here.”

“Really? For how long?” You asked curiously.

He turned on his heel to face you. “For however long you can deal with me. Hopefully forever,” he winked.

“Forever?” You teased. “What about when we have kids? We’ll need to get a bigger house.”

His ears turned red this time. “Well... you’re right! Of course you are. I didn’t think that far.”

You hummed in satisfaction, moving to sit on his bed. “When should we leave for the party?”

“About two and a half hours? There’ll be traffic on the way, so I want to leave early and try to help Jaehee out,” he reasoned. “You wanna go get breakfast or something?”

“Maybe we could cuddle now.”

He chuckled, then slipped into the other side of the bed. He grabbed your hips and pulled you to lay down beside him, curled up into his side. You breathed in his scent; he smelled vaguely like mint gum and lavender. It was surprisingly nice.

“Are you still tired?” He whispered in your ear, making you shiver.

“Not really. I just like this.” You looped your leg over Zen’s to get closer to him. He tensed up.

“Agh! I- Babe, you can’t do things like that!” He retracted his arms from you, grabbed your knee and gently pushed your leg off of him. “You know how hard it is for me to be around you!? With you in my bed!? In my arms!? To be a perfect gentleman? I’m a good actor, but I’m not that good.”

You whined. He fastened his arms back around your waist to let you cuddle again. “It was comfy like that,” you pouted.

He rolled his eyes dramatically. “We should do brunch.”

“Ughhhhh. I don’t wanna do brunch. Isn’t there food at the party?”

“There is but... I don’t think I can stand being on the same bed as you for that long,” he blushed, carefully pulling out of your embrace and sliding off the bed, stepping over to his dresser.

“Zenny,” you crawled out of bed, going to wrap your arms around him. “Who said we had to wait?” You whispered.

He turned suddenly, hitting the dresser with his elbow. “Wait for... what!?”

“To do... you know...” you couldn’t bring yourself to say it.

“No!” He crossed his arms. “I cannot bring you to the RFA party tainted.”

“That makes no sense,” you giggled. “How would anybody know?”

He groaned. “Babe, Jumin is like a bloodhound. He knows these things. I don’t know how... but he knows.”

He sighed. “I wanna cuddle with you so bad but I just can’t do it right now. Maybe after the party?”

You sighed, shrugging off the rejection, which admittedly stung a little. “Okay.”

You would just start getting ready. You were upset honestly. It hurt that he didn’t want to hold you, even though his reasonings were valid. He was just trying to be chivalrous.

“You’re upset with me.”

“It’s stupid...” you muttered. “I shouldn’t be. You’ve been nothing but good to me. I’m sorry for being so dramatic.”

“Don’t apologize!” He dropped to his knee. “Don’t ever, ever apologize.” He grabbed your hand to kiss it. “It’s my fault.”

“No... it’s really me.” You sighed. You needed to at least try to explain why your emotions were being so ridiculous. “I’m just... still reeling over yesterday. I know I said I was over it but... I was almost kidnapped.” You shivered involuntarily. “I just feel safe with you.”

He stood, hands grabbing you to hug you tight. “I’m sorry.” He sounded choked up. “You’re still on edge from last night and all I can think about is sex? I’m awful. I’m sorry.”

“A million apologies will get us right back to where we were,” you confessed. “It’s okay Zen. I love you.”

“I love you too, Princess.”

“Do you have makeup?” You asked, changing the topic. “I didn’t get to bring any...”

“I have foundation but... you’re nowhere near as pale as me. What do you say we go somewhere nice to get your makeup done then we get brunch?”

“Really? I couldn’t-“

“You could. And you should. I want to make you happy.”

“I’ll pay you back when I’m able to get my wallet,” you asserted. He rolled his eyes but didn’t contest you. He knew better than to do that.

“Well Princess? Are you ready to go?”

Your eyes widened in shock as he shrugged on a leather jacket. “We’re not taking the motorcycle, are we?”

“I thought guys on motorcycles were sexy...”

“You are sexy.” You pushed back some stray hairs hanging in front of his face. “But my makeup would get ruined.”

It took him a minute, but then he realized you were right. His eyes widened in understanding, mouth slightly agape, and he nodded. “You’re so smart.”

“And you’re pretty at least,” you teased, winking at him. You stood on your toes to kiss his cheek. “And smart and funny and kind and brave and-“

“Don’t go on. I’m a narcissist already.”

You giggled, hugging him once again. “You’re adorable. You may act like a narcissist but you’re not. It’s my official job to compliment you until you believe every word coming out of your mouth.”

He shrugged. “Well... who am I to argue with you?”

This has second part potential but I’m too tired to write more rn. I hope this is good tho !!

Saw this and... Now I wanna do a MysMes' Romanceable Characters ranking (so Rika and Vanderwood don't count... Even if Rika kind of is romanceable when you think about it). Btw, this is more about the characters than about the routes! The ranking would look completely different if it was about the routes themselves tbh...

So, if you're interested on reading my thoughts... Here we go:

1 - Zen. He is my all-time favorite. And the main reason is that we think VERY much alike. Even when I'm playing other routes, everytime he share a bit of his wisdom I go "YEAH, EXACTLY!!!!". We're both very emotional. While his route is far away from being the most thrilling one, it's by far the route I've played the most. I adore him.

2 - V. Now, I know there's a whole bunch of controversy around this boy, but, in my opinion, his route is the most well-written of the game, and, just like Zen, I identify a lot with him. His route is very emotional and really makes me reflect about things. No discourse or drama could erase the warmth I feel for this character. V haters don't interact...... Jk, your opinion is valid

3 - Jaehee. I know I just said that V's route is super emotional, but oh my God, Jaehee's route almost brought me to tears. Her struggle is just... So common in the real world. So real. And there's so much more to her than what is shown on the other routes. Before I did her route, I thought she was a bit of a shallow character... But no. She's quirky, she's funny, she's sassy, she's super smart and creative... The world is the one who made her shallow. I'll protect Jaehee to the ends of the earth.

4 - Jumin. Just like Jaehee, I thought he was somewhat shallow before I did his route, and back then, he was my least favorite character, so I did his route more out of curiosity than actual interest for the character... Boy, I wasn't ready. As an autistic person, I saw lots of myself on him, and that hit hard. This was also a route that nearly made me cry because it hit so close to home. I appreciate his quirks and understand his character much more after playing his route. Which is one of the funniest routes too but that's for another day

5 - Seven/Saeyoung. Followers of 707, I plea for you to not come after my rear: Even though he's considerably low in this ranking, I promise I still love him. I mean... What there's not to love? He's hysterically hilarious, a very well-written character, has great character design, is very sweet and lovable... But this boy lost some points because... His route is the one I had less fun playing with. And no, it isn't because it's sad and stressful. I just... Sincerely don't know how to explain why, it has been a long time since I've played his route, but I remember that finishing it didn't felt emotionally satisfying. This ranking may not be about the routes, but Saeyoung's route let a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to the character. I still love him tho. One of the best written characters in this game.

6 - Yoosung. Hey, he was the first character I tried to romance in the game... And, oh boy, he didn't aged well. Now, don't get me wrong: He's very well written as well, and he's super fun and sweet. Why is he so low, then? Well... I really like the way his emotions, thoughts and past were retracted in his route. Heck, I think it was better executed than Zen's route, and he's my favorite character! Buuuut... Asides from all the issues and matters that appear in his route... I'm not very interested in what he has left to offer. His relationship with MC felt a bit weaker than with the others in my opinion, his personality just doesn't attract me a lot and he feels a little frigid sometimes. And before you wonder, no, I don't dislike Yoosung because I'm a V stan. I still think he's a sweetheart and, actually, one of my favorite portraits of Yoosung is on V's route, and especially in the After Ending! With that being said, stop with the Rika jokes, guys, it stopped being funny, like, two years ago

7 - Unknown/Ray/Saeran. Now... I can't say that he isn't my least favorite character. But, to be very honest, I can't give a full input on how I feel about his character and his route... Because I haven't played it yet. And I haven't done it yet because, as Ray or as Unknown, I don't see myself getting (romantically) into him. I know that he does evolves a lot until the end, but I don't know if I would have fun or even feel comfortable with getting all the way until the good ending. Sorry, Saeran stans :(... If that helps, I do think that he's a very interesting character... That definitely deserves his After Ending. I'm looking at you, Cheritz.

YOOSUNG

He’s a gamer. As a gamer, he’s often in a mindset of competition.

There can only be one winner. There’s no “you tried” reward. It’s all or nothing.

He wants to keep you to himself. He hates it when anyone else looks at you, even his own friends in the RFA.

Sometimes, when you talk to your own friends, whether on the phone or in person, his shoulders suddenly begin to ache as they tense up and stay that way until you’re alone with only him again.

‘What do they have that I don’t?’, he’ll constantly ask himself, or ‘What if they hurt her?’

“MC, who are you talking to?” he’ll ask on occasion if you’re staring at your phone for a long time.

“Just a friend. We wanna hang out so I might see them later if that’s okay.”

He’ll wish this “hang out” somehow gets cancelled. He can’t stand you being with anyone but him.

He wants to watch your every step, but even he knows that’s a pretty immoral thing for a boyfriend to do. He just doesn’t want to lose you like he lost Rika.

You are his Rika.

You know how uneasy he gets about it sometimes. You can just tell. Maybe it’s his yandere eyes. Who knows.

You’ll find yourself often having to reassure him that your heart is reserved for him only.

He loves you and trusts you, so he takes your word for it, of course. But more often than not when you’re finished with your friends, he’ll insist to take you out afterwards, no matter how much you just want to lay on the couch and watch a movie. That’s not good enough for him.

ZEN

He wishes for the extinction of every other existing male on the planet.

“Men are dangerous animals, MC. You have to be careful, even if they are just ‘friends’.”

He starts to understand how you might feel sometimes when he gets a new leading role in a play with a female partner.

His chest will not stop that unpleasant tingling feeling until you’re at his side again.

So instead, he’ll ask you to introduce your friends to him so he knows just what kind of people you’re around.

Really it’s just that he wants to watch you every second and have an excuse for it so he doesn’t look like a creep.

You’re surprised at how nice he is at the first meeting of your friends, since he is pretty open about his jealousy. He refuses to hide anything from you.

He watches the way your guy friend speaks to you– their body language, their tone, he knows the signs. Behind your back, he might send the occasional glare in their direction.

When he starts feeling uneasy, he’ll be as physically close next to you as possible and have his arm around you to assert his dominance.

“MC, I’ll never take a lead role with a female if it means you’ll never talk to your friends again,” he jokes in good fun. You know he’s joking and laugh about it.

No he’s dead serious.

He apologises for any feelings of inadequacy you might feel while being his girlfriend, further exposing his own little spurts self-esteem issues every now and again. You and your friends are great people compared to him, he thinks a lot.

All it takes is a few kisses and he’s okay again :) just to get that inner beast going again.

JAEHEE

It’s a first for both of you being in a girlxgirl relationship. After talking about it for a long time, you both decided to be official even though you both shared your apprehensions about it.

She loves you so much for everything you’ve done for her, and she knew it was a different kind of love she felt when you first met.

I need non-platonic route plz

But she still couldn’t help but feel unconvinced of your feelings. What if your feelings for her were just a phase amongst the confusion of your own personal life?

It was the case of “what if’s” that would haunt her endlessly.

You were well aware of how limited the number of Jaehee’s friends were, hoping that she had any at all besides the RFA.

Heck, even group nights with the other members made Jaehee uncomfortable. You were the only females in the group after all, and she knew all the men had taken a liking to you ever since you joined. Not to mention she was the one who was most resistant in letting a stranger join the RFA.

After the impact you’d had on her life, she could never let you go.

But Yoosung had his adorable nature, Zen was flawless in every sense of the word, Seven never ceased to make you laugh with his other-wordly humour, and Jumin practically had the world at his fingertips with his ridiculous wealth.

What was so special about her that you were drawn to?

“MC… are you sure you want to be with, well, me? I’m really nothing special compared to the others.”

It was your job to prove to her she was worth more than she could know, and that being together was the best decision you’d ever made.

Movie nights with only watching Zen’s musicals was all it really needed to take.

JUMIN

You stuck by his side, no matter how uncomfortable he knew you were in those eleven days, because you knew it was all for your safety. He was constantly paranoid that you would leave the house during that time.

So whenever you leave the house at all, he becomes paranoid all over again.

What is it that you have to do that’s so important that he can’t get it done for you?

You were his Princess. A princess shouldn’t have to leave their castle. They have servants for that.

The one other person he was most wary of was Zen. He didn’t ignore the fact that he was as handsome as the actor would brag he was. He wasn’t so immaturely prideful to not admit that.

“MC, you must know that a man with good looks alone isn’t enough to make a relationship work. Income and wisdom are the most important factors to sustain a well-balanced living.”

He’d remind you this constantly.

“Jumin, I love you. Not Zen.”

“I never said you did. It doesn’t hurt to remind someone of these things.”

He knew, compared to the rest of the RFA, he was lacking in something none of them were – easily and opening expressing emotion. And this isn’t to say his ability to feel were void of existence, no.

On the contrary, his feelings for you was the strongest sensation he’d ever felt. That’s why it was an absolute must that you had to remain in his life. He couldn’t live without you after acquiring a palate for the sweet taste of romantic intimacy.

He knew money didn’t mean everything to everyone, especially you. That’s why he’d try so hard to phsycally demonstrate his feelings as much as he could in front of you.

Smiling as much as possible, giving cuddles, forcing himself to laugh, anything else he could think of.

“Jumin, your smile is a little scary.”

But he should’ve already known that you loved him for him, and accepted him the way he was. Although, you often did get a kick out of his awkwardly forced laughs.

SEVEN

Jealousy? Try envious.

You were together as a couple with your undying love for one another, but how long was it going to last? He didn’t have the liberty to dictate what his life was. Not anymore, since joining the agency.

What kind of life was that for you and him? Kinda crap, he thought.

Watching you how well you go along with the RFA, as well as your own friends that he would see you hang out with through security cameras. As a safety precaution of course– who knows what the agency might do to you at this point.

You looked so happy, freely walking out and about, going wherever you wanted without so much as having to check behind your back every sixty seconds, paranoid that certain danger was stalking you; the very opposite to him.

He couldn’t give that to you when you were together; share such a peaceful lifestyle with you. He loathed himself for it.

He’d wish for one thing every now and then; that the RFA never existed, and everything they had that he didn’t would bless him instead.

Knowing it was selfish to expect you to stay with him through the dangers he was often facing, he couldn’t help but always ask you to keep him company for as long as you were able. Just the two of you. Just for his own peace of mind.

“I’m nowhere near as good enough as what the perfect boyfriend is, but… will you really stay with me, even though I do the things I do?”

No-one was ever “perfect” by a set agenda, you’d tell him, and that there was no reason to be jealous of the others.

“We’re getting married in a space-station. It’s everyone else who should be jealous of us.”

It didn’t matter if he didn’t think he was perfect for you, because all that mattered was that he was perfect to you.

SAERAN

Zen’s not the only one who wishes for mankind’s extinction. No-one deserved you.

No-one knew how much you meant to him. They might think they did, but not really.

You saved his life and freed him from exploitation  for heaven’s sake. He’d be crazy enough to not follow you to the ends of the earth.

No matter who you were hanging out with, no matter where you were going, he would always be right there with you. Even though he feels a little socially awkward about it.

You didn’t mind. You loved his company, but of course there were times where space was needed, and it was hard to achieve that with his solidified mindset.

“Saeran… You know I’m not going to leave you, right?”

Deep down he knew. But still, there was that nagging voice in the back of his mind, constantly telling him otherwise.

“I know, but the thought of it scares me sometimes.”

After all, the whole point of you being taken into Mint Eye was to befriend the RFA, and now you were really close with them. You’d spent a lot more time with them than Saeran during your stay.

He couldn’t stand the thought of you spending anymore time with them, especially his own brother. He would never leave you two alone in a room. He had to be around, making sure Saeyoung wouldn’t steal you away with his one-of-a-kind humorous personality.

He cracks a few jokes when Saeyoung is around, just to prove that he can be equally as funny and that there was something he could out-do is brother in.

‘Joke contest: who can make MC laugh the most’ was how every movie night was spent at the bunker.

Vanderwood gets reeled into it a couple of times.

You have to reassure him that not everything is a competition, and that he was always #1 in your heart

Every time he talks about Rika, it’s with such high praise that you almost think he was in love with her, too

He’s always so clear that she was V’s, but when praises of her are constantly being talked about in the messenger, it’s hard not to think that way.

She also wasn’t close to Rika, but talks about her as though she admires her above all other women.

Guess something about a woman in charge just really appeals to Jaehee, but you aren’t that woman.

He praises Rika as his first fan, often talking about how she was always there for him and his shows.

Sure, he talks about almost any woman like he’s in love with her, but he seems so over the moon that Rika was his fan specifically that it’s hard not to be suspicious.

Yoosung talks about Rika as though she was a Goddess, and it’s starting to feel stifling to the point that you feel like you’ll never be able to live up to his expectations.

It’s so impossible to handle every chatroom feeling like a Rika fest. You don’t even know this woman, yet it feels as though you know her better than the actual members. They all seem so enamored with her, that it’s hard not to feel like you aren’t enough and will never be enough for them. How are you even supposed to deal with this?

After making a lengthy post in the messenger about your feelings, all of them are texting you with apologies and explanations. For Yoosung, she was the person to inspire him to work hard to be a good person. For Seven…she apparently put herself on the line with V to help him when he was younger. Jumin found his second friend in the world and the first woman who didn’t want him for his money and power. Jaehee saw a woman who took the world by storm, something she felt she could never do personally because she just wants not to be a burden. Zen was inspired by his very first fan, having felt as though maybe he’d never get any further than the roles at his small theater, but now getting better and better with each fan he added, forever grateful to the first he ever had.

Those were all very good reasons…and they’ve all promised to try harder not to keep bringing her up. Will you stay?

Zen had been bringing up kids for weeks, saying things like; ‘Our kids would look beautiful, wouldn’t they?’ ‘Even with a tummy like that lady’s, I’d love you!’

It was driving you insane. You didn’t want children.

Obviously, you didn’t want to disappoint Zen, so you just smiled and nodded every time he brought them up. 

Yet, the times you did want to tell him, a nagging voice at the back of your head pulled you back, telling you he wouldn’t love you anymore and that you’d be a disappointment to him.

Today was different though. You were going to do it, wether you liked it or not. 

So, as you and him walked through the park, you asked him to sit on the grass for a bit in a secluded area.

Zen, obviously taking you up on the offer, sat there smiling at you lovingly with those big, hopeful eyes. He was only making it harder for you.

“Look, Zen..you’ve been talking about children for a while now, and dropping hints..” you started, already not knowing what you wanted to say next. 

You saw a glint of hope in Zen’s eyes as you started talking about the topic, yet it twisted into concern when he saw your facial expression. “What about it?” He questioned.

“God, this is hard to talk about. I don’t- I don’t know.” You were having slight trouble keeping your breathing steady.

“Babe, baby, look at me. You can tell me anything, okay?” Zen cooed at you, an attempt to make you open up.

“Zen, I-.. I don’t want children. You’ve been talking about them like crazy..saying how good our children would look. But..I-I don’t want to know. I don’t want to be responsible for a child.” You choked back a sob, expecting him to get angry with you or be disgusted with you.

But you just felt his lips connecting with yours, and a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions overcame you. 

“I-I’m sorry, Zen..” you mumbled when he pulled back.

“What are you sorry for? I couldn’t ever force you to do something you don’t want to. OF COURSE, our children would be beautiful, but I’m fine without. Don’t worry about me. Worry about what you want.” 

You flung your arms around his neck, sobbing silently. 

“I love you. Thank you, Zen.” you smiled into the crook of his neck.

“I love you too baby, it’s alright.”

like?? if yoosung really tried he could be just as amzing as 707 in his mind

he starts working super hard to be good at something so he can prove he’s just as good as 707

but that isn’t the problem and he never really realizes that

so when he is inevitably rejected, he kinda?? falls apart??

like his hard work didn’t get him what he wanted??

he becomes disillusioned about the world and stops trusting people completely

☼ V Route Review ☼

I have had so many messages asking for my input on the route and the characters, so here it is!!! (p.s. I made that gif^^^^ I’m pretty impressed with myself ?? wow lmao) 

Heavy on spoilers so the text is under a cut! It’s also pretty lengthy so...you’ve been warned haha. 

This route had me feeling different ways as I moved through the days. I’ll try to touch on as many subjects as I can, and I am not sure how lengthy this will be getting. Some themes/aspects I both liked and disliked for different reasons. It is in my nature to debate myself and see both sides to things, so if you see me basically contradicting myself or arguing with a point I made previously, that is why. 

I am basing this on the Good End play-through alone, as that makes the most sense.

 I’d also like to state that, of course, these are all my personal opinion. If you disagree with anything in my review then that’s great! But on the contrary, you will not find me fighting you over opinions. If you come into my box to attack me over what I have to say about the route, I will simply ignore. I’m really sorry I have to say this, but as I have unfortunately already seen several...distasteful arguments over this route, I feel it needs to be said. I think everyones opinions are valid and this is by no means me trying to force my opinions or tell you that what you feel and think is wrong! It’s just my analysis^^

I’d like to preface this by saying that I did have fun and enjoyed the route for entertainment purposes. We got to see more of those minor characters we have been craving (i.e. Saeran, Rika, and even Vanderwood!)  

I think I am not alone in my wanting to see more of Mint Eye and the interactions between Saeran and Rika (as well as V, of course). I am so glad this route focused a lot on that aspect. Before the route was released, I thought it would make the most sense to approach it from MC being involved with Mint Eye more in order to get closer to V and/or Saeran, and after playing it I still believe they made a smart choice! 

The beginning of the route was everything I wanted. We had plenty of Saeran, we had our set-up. Game testers in an unknown place. I had stated this before but I honestly loved this premise so much more than “wow you’re now in some random apartment and btw you can’t leave.”  They kept it otome fanciful while making it a bit more believable, I was really happy with that. And when I first saw V in his Mint Eye garb my heart dropped! I especially love the CG where Saeran is behind him with the flowers! 

I’m kind of a sucker for story lines where you’re a captive and someone rescues you, so I was so so happy with the plot for this route. Not to mention being in the middle of not TWO people, but THREE. I was not expecting Rika to be so infatuated with MC as well. That threw me for a loop, and hats off to Cheritz for that because I was digging it lolol. 

I adored learning about V’s mother. That was something I hadn’t expected, and I am just so happy that we got to see what we did. The CG’s were so heartwarming, and the diary entries and thoughts were just beautiful. I loved seeing V progress in his relationship with his mother, and how her love for him helped him be who he truly was. For once, it was nice to see a parent in this game really nurture their kid and help them grow. 

Lastly, I would like to add that I was completely pleased with the timeline of this route, simply for Saeran. I was so curious what he was like during the formation of Mint Eye. I loved seeing this glimpse of ‘Ray’ since this takes place a mere 6 months ? after Rika’s “death” so it is still very fresh. Mint Eye is very new. The building isn’t even completed yet--

The basement....yikes. Yes, the last and most important detail to any good, well functioning cult hideout--the creepy dungeon-esque torture chambers complete with jail cells and the happy shrieks of pain excitement from loyal followers. 

MC is kinda joining this clusterfuck in its heyday. We are seeing these characters before they are too far gone. They’re figuring things out, Saeran is still mostly his kind and calm self, Rika is still questioning very much her relationship with V and the RFA, as well as her inner demon. I think it was an integral part of the story and a very smart placement for this route. 

Overall, there were plenty of things I enjoyed and also things that bugged me. I think Cheritz did a very good job, all things considered. But the Good Ending left me feeling...more dissatisfied than I had hoped. 

As I drew nearer to the ending, I got the overall feeling of a kid watching your parents argue. A lot of the interactions as the days rolled on were quite repetitive and honestly I found myself getting bored reading them. They filled up the days with an onslaught of chats and VN’s featuring Rika talking about loving her demons--we GET IT. YOU LIKE BEING EVIL-- V being a wet blanket and a masochist, and lots and LOTS AND LOTS of talking about the Sun. To the point that most of the language and poetic descriptions of love and suns just started to mesh together, seeming fake deep and overworked and mundane. 

 Instead of these repetitive chats, we should have had more interactions with V, where he actually relies on MC and they learn more about each other. Most of the time MC was with V he was either SICK or hurt or...asleep. Or weirdly sitting in Saeyoung’s car outside for no apparent reason. Why? It almost seems lazy. Like they couldn’t figure out a way for V and MC to interact and bond more (or it was just too difficult to squeeze it in) so they kept find reasons to keep them apart. I felt the text messages from V were the most he really tried to communicate with MC and really learn about her. Most of the texts were philosophical back and forth or him asking her how he should deal with feelings like apprehension in art when faced with criticism etc. 

I think we could have scrapped quite a few of the lovey-dovey VNs where Rika and V are proclaiming their undying dark love over and over again or like...in bed together (groan)...and replaced it with, I don’t know, maybe MC and V? Actually learning about each other????

It didn’t bother me so much during the route that V had a hard time confessing that he had feelings for MC. That part seemed very natural. What bothered me was just the complete lack of true interaction with V. If he was so obsessed with Rika, we would really need to see just why he fell for MC. I’m not satisfied with the answer that MC is naive, or that she’s so good and pure just because she didn’t form an evil cult. 

I felt more romance from Rika than I did from V. And in the other routes, we ALWAYS help the characters overcome their fears and learn to be better people. We help Zen get in touch with his family again, and we love him for his heart not his looks. We help Jumin overcome his issues with women and possession. We help Jaehee finally go for her dreams. We help Yoosung learn to work through grief and become mature. And Saeyoung of course, we help him accept love, and finally search for his brother. This didn’t happen with V. Well, it did a little bit. I liked that MC wasn’t pushy, and she encouraged him that he could find true love! I liked that part a lot. But for the majority, I just felt more like a passive observer in the route. Talking to V seemed like you were talking to a brick wall at times, and no matter what you say he still wants to sacrifice himself. So it felt like, while we said kind and encouraging words, V sort of did his own thing until he figured it out himself. 

 Not to mention the fact that they gave him an out in the end. Why was it Yoosung who makes Rika face what she has done? Don’t get me wrong, it was still wonderful to see Yoosung taking charge and using his familial love to push her to get the help she needs! I was so happy! But... It should have been V. Everything got tidied up for him, and apart from telling her it’s over, I didn’t see much development of his character towards the ending. I wanted to see him go from refusing medical treatment in order to protect Rika, to finally realizing what she is doing is wrong, she needs help, and having her face the authorities. 

And what about Saeran??? That was handled so oddly? It’s like everyone forgot he existed or didn’t care what happened to him? It was the weirdest from V. It left a sour taste in my mouth that they made it seem like Saeran died and yet V is off getting puka shell necklaces or whatever for 2 years and then comes back with the strength to love. Like, that’s all well and good but....did you forget about Saeran? And how are you going to tell Saeyoung his brother is dead now even though the only thing he asked of you was to keep Saeran safe. 

I TRULY HOPE they touch on this in the after ending, because I don’t think it was like V at all to just toss Saeran aside like that. -_-;; 

I loved the route for what it was. I’m playing it again, and I’ll continue to play for the different endings. I am so grateful to Cheritz for this content and for being gracious enough to give us a route for V! Some days had me on the edge of my seat, some parts had me laughing or made my heart ache completely. I probably sound really nitpicky with some of the above text lol but in all honesty I loved the route and had a ton of fun playing it. The music was brilliant! The CGs were beautiful, I really love whoever the artist(s) was that worked on these for the route. Playing this game again was a bit surreal, and I found myself filled with memories of when I first downloaded and played the game (obsessively). I think the route was worth the wait.

-ON SAERAN-

I think it goes without saying but I will say it anyway--I LOVED SEEING MORE SAERAN!!! Going into this route, I had the lowest of hopes for Saeran interaction. It’s better to have low expectations and then be thrilled instead of high expectations and disappointed, right? We got to learn so much about his character, just from the few interactions we had with him. His confirmation of loving ice cream, he enjoys being outdoors, he loves flowers and has even gone so far as to know the language of flowers (which is impressive), he has an intense need for validation and love, and finally, due to his extreme circumstances--he has compartmentalized his feelings and personalities in order to protect himself. 

Learning his softer side was a shock as well as a pleasant surprise. I felt my heart warming up as I chat with him.  

On top of that, I would also like to point out that since this takes place over a year (?) prior to the regular routes...it was heartbreaking and eye opening to see how often he was taking medicine/drugs. 

Saeran turned into unknown when he drank the elixir (as the majority of what he took “with each meal” was just painkillers). It was so sad to see just how loaded up with drugs he was. And it gives you a scary comparison between ‘Ray’ in this route and the Unknown we know from the original game. I can’t imagine just how many things he is taking during the original. Wow. I just kept clinging to the memory that we save him in Saeyoung’s route lol. 

-ON RIKA-

I loved learning about Rika’s backstory. We did learn a bit from the normal routes and secret endings, but I think it helped to get a glimpse into her own perspective of her life. I think it was also really important, this feeling that she hadn’t even disclosed this information (her school life/some of her childhood and feelings about her darkness) to even V himself. She really opened up to MC, apparently more than anyone else, EVER. This was strange to me at first...but I think it is a positive. I felt that she was just so desperate for someone to be close to her again, and she latched on to MC. 

Her character is so interesting and I know she’s a topic of such controversy in the fandom, but I liked hearing her thoughts on why she did what she did. It’s something I wanted since I finished the secret endings. I hope in this unreleased after ending we might see her making progress in treatment.

What’s Good About Rika

Hey everyone! Okay so recently on the Mystic Messenger fandom I’ve been seeing so much drama revolving about Rika and all of the bad things she’s done, like there are so many people spreading hate about the character and causing drama with people because of it. Honestly being the way I am, it kind of makes me sad seeing so many people being so negative, why doesn’t anyone look at the good things Rika has done?  So that’s why I’m making this post! I want to share around all of the good things I believe Rika has done. Even though she definitely has done some terrible things, I firmly believe there are a lot of good things she has done as well! So here we are: (There’s quite a bit of spoilers revolving around Rika here so don’t read if you haven’t finished the main story and don’t want to be spoiled (nothing in the DLC is mentioned other than secret endings))

- Creating the RFA 

Honestly one of the best and warm-hearted things that Rika has done is creating ‘Rika’s Fundraising Association’. It is stated in the game that she started this organisation so she could raise money and help those in need by donating all the money to charities. This is so she could help people achieve happiness and not have to go through much pain and suffering.....in my opinion this is a very sincere and compassionate thing to do! I believe that being able to organise all of these large and majestic parties must take a lot of time, but she also does it to help others which is utterly inspiring. There are not many people in this world that are willing to go to these lengths to help out, so it definitely stands out as one of the best things she has done.

- Volunteer Work 

In the game, it is mentioned by Yoosung that he and Rika used to do volunteer work. Now I know this isn’t as big a thing as creating the RFA, but I still think it should be mentioned. It shows that outside of RFA, Rika still did a lot of kind things to help people out, so she was very committed to this belief to create happiness within people in need of it. Again, I think this is a very selfless thing to do and shows how compassionate she can be.

- Being a Role Model 

Now most people would agree that Yoosung talks a lot about Rika throughout the game, honestly a little too much, but remember there is a very good reason for this! Rika acted majorly as Yoosung’s role model throughout his life, always inspiring him and encouraging him to do well in school....honestly Yoosung aspired to be like Rika~ Now let’s also not forget that Rika also even acted all happy in front of Yoosung, as she didn’t want to let him down.....now it is very controversial as this also suggests she was being fake and all that type of stuff, but I personally think that it’s the thought that counts ^^ I just appreciate that she was willing to act happy in front of Yoosung as she didn’t want to disappoint him with her more depressing side.

Not only was Rika a role model to Yoosung, but she was also a role model to pretty much the entirety of the RFA members. Don’t you ever wonder why Rika is mentioned so much by the characters? Well that’s because they look up to her! Rika has been described as a caring young woman and just an amazing person with her bright charisma, deep care and selfless attitude towards others. To be completely honest, before 707′s route and the secret endings, I did believe that she was an entirely good soul and even I wanted to be like her. After that route and secret endings that completely changed though lol

- Helping Jumin

Now we’re getting to some minor stuff, but I still think it’s worth at least thinking about. So in Jumin’s route, our lovely Jumin mentions that Rika was the only one that (he believed) understood him. Rika would always talk to Jumin about how she thinks he is lonely and how she wants to help him with it. This leads to her being the generous girl she is and trying to think of things to get him that will help. She soon later buys a boring and long book to help him fall asleep on nights he can’t, which is quite a nice sentiment, and then going out of her way to buy him a cat so he won’t be lonely all the time. This cat is who we know today as Jumin’s beloved Elizabeth the 3rd! I think that at least trying to help him and being willing to talk to him about his problems is nice, and I think it’s a good thing that his power and money doesn’t even matter to her as she sees him as a good friend ^^ It’s not really mentioned much on what specifically Rika has done to help Jumin, but those are some things I can remember and that I think is quite compassionate and warm-hearted.

- Encouraging Zen

Now Zen was first introduced to the RFA through Rika. She was one of his biggest fans and absolutely adored his acting! This leads up to her buying him flowers and congratulating him after a show, not even showing a bit of care for his looks. All she cared about was what he was good at and his passion: acting. Now I think this must have been really shocking to Zen, because think about it, Zen has been admired by so many people through his life, but it’s mostly because of his looks and never really for his acting. So this young, aspiring musical actor being confronted by a fan of his acting, must have really encouraged him! I know if I was in his position I would feel super good about myself. Rika also makes it a point to try and help Zen’s career by introducing him to Jumin. Now even though Zen doesn’t accept Jumin’s help, the matter of Rika just wanting to help him shows her compassionate and kind-hearted nature, she really can be a lovely person.

Wow! That was definitely a lot more writing than I expected!! Haha anyways, I hope you liked reading this, and if you can, please try and share this around since I think people should be aware of good things that Rika has actually done ^^~

Honestly her character is pretty great, as it goes to show that even the best of people can still have their own problems and insecurities. So remember that even with all this hate going around, Rika isn’t completely a bad person, she still has done a lot of good things. Actually to be completely honest, I’m not even a big fan of Rika, but I still can’t deny she’s a really good character and a lot of her acts are very inspiring! I still get annoyed when the characters mention her though. So thanks to whoever has been reading this, I hope you’re all excited for V’s Route!! I sure know I am~💖Also btw Cheritz you are angels for releasing that opening, I love you guys so much! You are honestly too good to us~

Mercy Main, btw

“No aim, no brain, Mercy main.”

“I wish Mercy would be deleted from the game.”

“What a stupid hero.”

“Low skill hero.”

“It’s unfair that one button can counter an extremely high skill play.”

“Boosted.”

“Carried.”

“They have a top 500 and we have two Mercy mains, we’re going to lose.”

“Can you play anything not Mercy?”

“I hate Mercy mains.”

Anyway, this is just off the top sampling of conversation that happens pretty constantly if you’ve ever watched an Overwatch streamer who isn’t a Mercy player. The memes (ha ha, jokes) are permanent fixtures on the Overwatch reddits, of course and even make it into the “pro Overwatch” scene commentary (”And then Sherlockey swoops in from hiding and presses Q” -- which is related to the idea that “all Mercy does is Hide and then Press Q” which is the default ultimate use button on the PC). It’s a huge constant in any conversation on Overwatch (also seen in many of the popular youtube commentaries as well) and on the ladder a little less so but still “Can you play someone not Mercy” is fairly. . . well, common up until the most recent patch.

And I’m constantly fucking pissed.

There’s an interesting article here on Mercy but I thought I’d expand on it. The recent Mercy changes have really added to the conversation and just as people who played Mercy knew before, it wouldn’t really change the conversation.

A Lot of Arguments Against Mercy are that: 1. she doesn’t require aim 2. she’s very easy to play/low skill 3. she is too powerful 4. but on the other hand she’s not useful enough because she hasn’t been in higher tier conversation meta since like season 2 where she had a brief rein because of Pharmercy 5. ew grill gamers lol mercy main lol 6. I A DPS Main Feel Cheated When She Resurrects The Team Because My 5K Was So Impressive OH My God

One of the things I have liked and enjoyed immensely about Overwatch is that it isn’t Call of Duty 2.0. It isn’t the FPS only FPS can you FPS and only FPS game. It’s a game that to excel at requires a huge amount of map sense / strategy / game sense / educated guesses about the enemy so forth and so on. Every game is different because of your team and the enemy team and the map. You have to be able to predict who has what ults and what is going to be combo’d and what routes do you want to take on maps. It’s easily accessible but has a continual learning curve in what you can do.

Many characters who have ‘easy’ kits also have extremely high levels (in my opinion) of strategy involved. Winston is another example, of whom for a while was considered “low skill” because you don’t have to aim with his weapon, it does AOE auto-cleave damage. However, that has faded after the double Winston meta from like... season 1? And also because in Korea he’s seen as being one of the most important characters in the game. And it’s true. Winston is immensely powerful when used correctly. Just because his kit is “I don’t have to aim my gun to be effective” doesn’t mean anything in what ‘effective’ means. A good Winston needs to know engages / disengages, his own hp limits, other heroes cooldowns and ults, the bubble placement and how to block damage and ALSO enemy healing or LoS, how to utilize the jump combos to kill people etc. Another hero that the American (and I believe EU) sides of Overwatch had devalued for 800 years was D.Va but she had her revival in triple tank but only because “her defense matrix is overpowered”. However, it should be noted that while Winston has shaken off the ‘low skill’ title, D.Va has continued to keep it. Low skill, just needs 1 click (her defense matrix) to nullify everything! Low Skill! Awful Hero!

Strange how both D.Va and Mercy are female heroes and continue to get these comments repeatedly where similar male counterparts have been able to have that removed. Strange, isn’t it. A lot of other people have sort of spoken on the sexism in video games and the article I linked above also talks about it, so I won’t focus too much on it. But a real ha ha isn’t it.

The Mercy situation, I feel, is Damned if You Do, Damned if You Don’t. The only other burst healer in the game is Ana -- and Ana does have an extremely high skill cap. She requires fairly good accuracy and is also the only healer who can’t heal herself and the only healer with an offensive support ult, rather than a defensive one. Ana was op for a season or two and despite being thought of as ‘a bad choice’ for the first few weeks she came out, she became a ‘must pick’ and also a highly skilled character that was cool to play. She shoots people. And her ult enables DPS to do cool things. But outside of Ana, there is no way to heal quickly and consistently -- Lucio and Zenyatta both have much lower amounts of healing outside of bursts with long cooldowns (amp it up / transcendence).

For the longest time meta was just Lucio/Zen, if you ran anything else you were stupid. And then Lucio/Ana or Ana/Zen. This is with the top say, 20% or something of players, but Mercy has remained an incredible consistently high picked hero. For some obvious reasons -- tanks and DPS need healers to live. Even though Mercy has a high pick rate and many people making commentary outside of the pro players/streamers play with Mercys who save their asses... well, she’s still A Bad Hero to them. Some of this has to do with the echo chamber of these communities and the begging up after some dude says something and everyone else wants to repeat it. And, the sort of healer position in all games, as many people know, no one thinks healers have value, but they always need healers to heal them.

Anyway, people hated the rez. It brings people back to life. It means if you killed 5 people at once with A Cool Ult then Mercy could run in and rez them all. The idea often was that ‘Mercy hides and then comes out and rezes’. Which is honestly kind of silly since a good Mercy has always used rez for tempo and been with her team, since her job is... healing. But somehow the idea that Mercy Mains Are Good at Hiding And Doing Nothing But Rezzing and also that Mercys could Climb the Ladder By Only Rezzing Five People At Once spread.

Believe me, if climbing the ladder by getting 5man rezzes was possible, there would be a lot more Mercy one tricks in top 500 for the past few seasons.

But it stuck in commentary. Mercy was easy. Every Mercy player in the higher levels of play was boosted. After all, Mercy takes no skill, she just hides and presses Q. It’s ridiculous commentary and some of it has to do with the way that DPS players feel that all you need to do is frag harder, who needs strategy and whenever they get a ‘kill stolen’ from them they’re mad and Feels Bad. (Related, though, is how Trans and Sound Barrier can both nullify cool DPS plays as well, but no one complains about that... weird, huh....). I weirdly was watching a tank player’s stream where the exact problem was that all the DPS just wanted to frag harder and not follow strategy and shockingly they lost. Wow. It’s like Overwatch is a game that has more than just shooting to it??? Go figure.

Now, hilariously. While Mercy was too easy and constantly boosted she was also out of the higher tier levels because... she wasn’t that good. Why have Mercy when you can have Ana. Why have Mercy when you can have Lucio? So forth and so on. The only time Mercy was pulled out in higher levels for a very long time was “to babysit pharah” and even then you’d see Pharahs without Mercy.

Fast forward to now where Mercy got a rework because people kept complaining about how 5 person Rezes were unfair. The dev update is on the OW yt here. It should be noted that part of the ‘hide’ conversation is also your team telling you to hide when you want to stay and heal them. “Mercy go hide” listen don’t tell me how to play my character -- but it was pretty common at the elos I played at (gold/plat) and also the higher elos I watch streams for (masters/gm/top 500). People wanted her to hide because she is very easy to kill. Her 2016 Halloween victory pose is a gravestone with a hand reaching out going in for the rez and I’m never changing it because it’s Too True to Reality. Rez & die is pretty common. (example of both).

Now Rez is an ability and her ult is Valkyrie. When the changes were announced people who didn’t play Mercy were like Looks Cool and a lot of other people were like This wilL Take More Skill. A lot of Mercy players I know were... disappointed. Because what this change does is make Rez a single person rez (every 30 seconds) and Valkyrie lets her fly + shoot faster and resets the rez cooldown + her healing/damage boost beams connect to teammates instead of just one person. But what this did was take away her ability to save her team. So there’s no “I can save my team from an ult” ability she has anymore. Rez was the defensive ult she had to ‘team save’ like Sound Barrier and Trascendence.

But she’s been live for a while now and the answer people have now is: she’s too easy and too op. Her rez nullifies picks and it’s Unfair that Mercy’s Rez is So Easy and nullifies a High Skill Play Like a Pick. Her Ult is Too Good. She Does Too Much.  We Need a Mercy in Every Game or We’ll Lose. 

With that last one, let me tell you, I have watched all these top 500 DPS and tank/off tank players playing Mercy and they are so bad. Or having other GM players play Mercy because “we can’t win without one” but then the Mercy is so bad they lose. I mean, but if she was so easy wouldn’t she be able to be picked up immediately? Easy victory right? All Mercys up in higher levels have no skill, huh?

I won’t disagree that her ult is possibly too long or a little overpowered. Resetting the rez I think is fine. The 10 second cooldown is good. After all, that’s what makes her ... well, her. The rez. But her ult lasts for 20 seconds. They could cut it to 12 seconds or 15 and it would be much more balanced. Even that much would be enough imo, but if they needed further nerfs, they could also nerf the connected beams to teammates and have them have a drop off or something. I.E., main person gets the full heal, the connected people get less of a heal. But while people complain deeply about new Mercy ult... no one works too hard to counter it. As much as people complain about Mercy, very few people have ever tried to counter it. In fact, popular streamers have said: My team doesn’t know to kill Mercy, so I hate her. 

My DPS doesn’t know to kill the other teams support, so I hate the support. Thinking.

Mercy was given invul when she rezzed because it was too easy for her to die during rez. This has been removed for her current update and the rez distance is melee distance. So if you just killed someone and  Mercy goes in for the rez... you should also be able to kill her. It’s extremely valuable then. Her ult is easily countered by tac visor or deadeye. She herself is countered by anyone who can aim and Sombra. If DPS is so skilled, doesn’t it seem like they should be able to deal with a 200hp hero? Hm. At my elo (Plat/Diamond rn) you can still hunt her down with Pharah and kill her.

Now, the skill part of Mercy. When Mercys changes came through, they were extremely easy for me to adjust to. My friends have had varying experiences -- many have said she’s much harder. I feel that she’s much easier because the hardest part of Mercy is strategy. Which of your teammates are the most valuable to rez right now, will rezzing them be productive, what ults do the enemy have which cooldowns do they have, where are we with progress, where are the rest of my teammates, what ults do we have, where are we on the map blah blah. Tempo rez has always been good but before you had to balance it with “will i need a team rez later”. 8/10 of my rezzes previous have been tempo rezzes because team rezzes often just set your team up to get wiped again.

But with her changes, that has been removed. You can only tempo rez. That decision has been removed. The weight is more on who and when and why -- but honestly, it’s also relieving because instead of “my DPS loves feeding jesus christ stop dying now we have to wait for you to respawn so we can push again” the fights are a lot quicker to engage. You can make up for your teammates bad decisions with rez. If you’re good with it.

Who do you rez? Well, it’s a pretty easy answer for me which is “depends”, lol. It’s a nice place to be as a solo healer if you have 2 tanks, you can let one of them die and heal the other. You can continue pushes when people make mistakes. You can rez your DPS carry or second support. There’s so many more options to enable your team to do well.

You have to know your distance and teammate positions intimately so you can escape and go in. Her new Guardian Angel lets you slingshot around and it’s nice but also tricky to use (?). The skill part of Mercy has always been strategy and positioning, and this change hasn’t change it at all.

I suppose, people who were mediocre or bad at Mercy continue to be bad at Mercy.

I guess... this is the parting word here. I’m not exactly sure where I meant to go with this except I’m tired. I’m tired of people bagging on Mercy. Of complaining but wanting to be healed and rezzed. I’m honestly tired of maining who seems to be the most hated character in Mercy. The more people complain about aspects of heroes in Overwatch who clearly have a place and are generally not OP people just haven’t at all considered actually countering them the more it feels like the community never wanted you. And honestly, maybe they never did. I jokingly bag on Mercy all the time in hopes that I will become immune to it. It doesn’t work. I play fill in most competitive matches and often it’s support that needs filled. Or, say, a tank but there’s no support so playing tank will be difficult and suck.

I think I had more to say. But I’m sure anyone reading this can guess what. I’ve always enjoyed that OW isn’t just about fps. I wish the rest of the community would catch up with that.

Yessss! I actually love this so much, I adoreeee Disney 🥺 I’ll add V and Saeran too! Btw this is just my opinion!

Zen:

Ya boi it’s Flynn Rider! First of all, they’re both super flirty lmao, and it’s just, you cannot tell me that Zen isn’t Flynn like holy shit! They’re both ambitious, and when they care for someone they will do whatever they can to protect them. Both Flynn and Zen have sad pasts who make them who they are now, aaandddd! They also have different names! Just wanted to point that out lmao.

If he were to be another one I’d say Pirince Naveen, from Princess and the Frog. They’re both super playful, and want to have fun, and they also really care deeply for people close to them!

And to add another one: Aurora! Both of them are elegant and hopeless romantics!

Yoosung:

Our sweet child Yoosung is Anna from Frozen!

Both of them are sweethearts, and they really want to find someone they can spend the rest of their lives with! At the same time, even though they may be a bit naïve, they’re both pretty brave! I mean (spoiler for Yoosung’s Route) the poor boi literally got his eye hurt for MC, and no matter what he insisted on going to Mint Eye with Seven. Both of them also really care about family, and they’re super loyal to them and everyone around them.

Another thing, it’s that both Yoosung and Anna are super playful, and bubbly! So I honestly think Yoosung would just be Anna. Imagine him singing love is an open door tho, that’d be fucking adorableeeeee

Jaehee:

Tiana, from Princess and the Frog!

First of all, they’re both so similar with the work a little harder theme, like honestly that’s all they ever do! They’re both super workaholic, which may sometimes get in the way for spending time with family and friends. Both Tiana and Jaehee are super intelligent and strong women! And they’re always there to help their friends. Honestly Jaehee and Tiana are queens 👑

And they both are passionate with something to do with food! Jaehee with her coffee shop and Tiana with her restaurant, so I think they’re just super similar.

Jumin:

Alright listen! So when I was doing this I mostly do it on similarities on personality and such, and for Jumin both Belle and Jasmine seem the most similar

First of all, Jasmine! Both Jumin and Jasmine are in a role where they have to be the perfect heir. While Jasmine rebels against it in various ways, Jumin is more subtle about it. Whenever his father tries a new business idea because of a woman he met, Jumin firmly tells his father no. Even when Sarah Choi or whatever her name is (fuck herrrr lmao) is supposed to get married to him, Jumin yeets her and goes nope. They both care deeply about what they’re supposed to be ruling (?) over, Jumin with his company and Jasmine with her kingdom. And lastly, they both care deeply for their friends and family, and would do anything for them!

Now with Belle, Jumin loves reading. That’s a thing they have in common, and the both of them are super smart, and love learning about new things. Like Belle, he doesn’t have many friends, and is pretty confident, Iike our boy Jumin ;)

Saeyoung:

Peter Pan

But not the animated one, it’s the one we all had a crush on when it was like 2003, this Peter Pan:

It’s absolutely perfect. Both him and Peter are super playful, they like joking around and just you know, living the high life.

But at the same time they’re both scared of their feelings. At one point, when Peter Pan and Wendy are dancing (best scene ever btw) Wendy asks Peter about his feelings, and Peter yells that no, he doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings and that he has none. He tells her that in the end everything was pretend and he doesn’t want to grow up, or admit his feelings for Wendy.

It’s like when Saeyoung was pushing away the MC, so they wouldn’t catch feelings for him. He wants to ignore his emotions and he feels they are useless. Also the gif above it’s perfect for my sweet child it’s adorable lmao.

There’s also Aladdin, because they’re both playful but they can be serious at times!

V:

Now for our boy V! I choose Tarzan and Elsa! Now you may be wondering, Amanda, what the hell?

Well let me explain!

First of all Elsa! (Ignoring the whole Let It Go part of course lmao) Both Elsa and Jihyun have had super traumatic experiences. V with Rika, and Elsa with literally almost killing her sister. Due to that, they both isolate from their friends and loved ones, to protect them. Elsa to protect them from her power, and V does it to protect them from Rika and Mint Eye. They both only want the best for their loved ones, and they don’t care if they have to sacrifice themselves. Jihyun and Elsa are scared of hurting those around them, Jihyun doesn’t want anyone in the RFA to be involved with Rika, to get hurt. That’s why I think Elsa and V are just super similar. They both repress how much they’re suffering on the inside, and they are always the ones acting as a shield for the rest. (Also it’s part of perfect because Yoosung is Anna holy crap Frozen/Mystic Messenger au????)

Now for Tarzan, of course it’s not everything that’s similar, but one thing they have in common is that they care deeply for family, no matter what. Even when Tarzan is being shunned by gorilla dad (or Yoosung -oh damn-) because he says that he’s not part of the family, Tarzan still does whatever he can to protect them.

Saeran:

Now, since our boy is actually like 6 boys (Unknown, Ray, Suit, Saeran GE, Saeran SE, and Saran Judge and Forgive)

So I did the ones in another story and Saeran post SE!

Ray: So! Our boy Ray reminds me so much of Rapunzel from Tangled! Both Ray and Rapunzel are both being kept in a tower (Ray’s tower being Mint Eye.) They’re both smart and creative, and well, they’re loyal (except to Saeyoung lmao.) I feel like Ray is also pretty artistic (he made the cute little emojis for himself and everything, just adorableeeee.) I honestly totally forgot about a Disney character that doesn’t want to be abandoned (maybe Jessie?) because Ray is scared of other people leaving him.

Now Suit! He was my favorite to do :P

He is The Beast! First of all, they’re both hot headed and they’re mad all the time, but beneath all that, they’re both hurting and lonely. Honestly I need a freaking AU of Suit Saeran as the beast, they’re just so similar! Even though they may seem distant and grumpy, they care about the MC in the same way. When the beast saw that Belle was actually pretty sad and everything, he got her a room (I mean he did feel pretty sad you could see it in his little face :( ) and Saeran actually tries to postpone the MC’s Mint Eye ceremony because he actually cares a lot about them (awww)

And for GE Saeran: I just see him as Pocahontas. They’re both mature, kind and loving, but they still have a playful side to them. Also they both love nature, and they are pretty smart. Good Ending Saeran just reminds me so much of Pocahontas honestly, because Saeran can be serious when he needs to, but he is also pretty mischievous and playful (I love the call where he’s like “HA got you to say what I wanted lmao”)

And now, SE Saeran: He reminds me of Kristoff.

At the beginning of the film, Kristoff is actually pretty selfish, and is uninterested on Anna’s stuff lmao. He’s a loner, and pretty cold (you know that’s what ice does to you pft) but he actually cares deeply about his family and friends, and he does have an actual fun side to him! Saeran in the SE is a loner too, he mostly shuts himself off and doesn’t really like to socialize (me thoooo) but even though he acts distant and like he doesn’t give a fuck, Saeran actually does give a fuck. He secretly cares about MC, his brother and maybe even the RFA members, even if he doesn’t show it. He is also pretty cold, and fiesty.

Bonus:

Since Hamilton is on Disney+ now, technically they’re all Disney characters so here are the RFA members as Hamilton characters, like imagine if they were to do the musical this would be the roles they’d get (also I won’t elaborate on my choices pft) oh and for the MC’s here’s a little guide just in case lmao

MC 1: Brown hair, no eyes the one and only lmao

Mystic Messenger ruined my life and killed my crops (srsly tho fucking Yoosung's route had so many of my triggers I wish someone had warned me...) that game stressed me out so bad (but Zen's route almost made up for it if it hadn't been for the whole "if you stay I won't be able to control myself" bs that rly ruined it tbfuckinh)

YES OMG. The same exact thing happened with my friend when she did Yoosung’s route, and it got so bad she doesnt even like talking about it bc it just makes her repulsed lol. I think a big thing is too is that these characters really feel like real people? I mean sure there’s exaggerated humor and circumstances but the way they text you and talk nearly feel like you’re talking to an actual person. Maybe even moreso with Yoosung because I think he’s probably the easiest character to relate to personally since he’s a struggling school student and I think most of us are like that lol (and even if you’re not, his troubles and concerns about finding what he wants to do in the future are REAL). Even when the climax of Yoosung’s route effectively happened off screen it was still like raw af you know.

I was actually aiming for Zen at first but of c got rail roaded into Yoosung’s. But after doing Yoosung’s I immediately wanted to do Jumin’s and I think I had enough hourglasses or w/e for it so I started it right away.

Like, during Yoosung’s route I found Jumin to be a very respectable person who was very mature and composed and thoughtful, and had interesting insights on a lot of the troubles Yoosung had in his route, and provided a lot of nice food for thought on the matter too. Not only that but I kind of have a thing for tall dark and handsome rich dudes in pinstripe suits who are assertive and in control (SWEATS). And Jumin’s route went pretty well for a while until he went from projecting on his cat to projecting REALLY hard on you. I remember the exact moment where I went from “WOW THIS ROUTE IS REALLY GOOD JUMIN IS COOL” to “HOLY FUCK GET ME OUT OF HERE ABORT MISSION ABORT.” And that was where you try to leave for the first time and he pushes you against the wall and is like “why do you want to leave? I’m taking care of you and you’re safe here. Why don’t you appreciate all I’m doing for you here” ect. 

Now, for me, I don’t mind dominance and control. If anything it’s probably a charm point to me, in good measure. But there is a fine line from “good dominance and control” to “bad”. And that moment was when Jumin jumped right over the line into bad territory for me. Especially when in the following scene he makes you wear the clothes he wants to see on you like you’re a gd dress up doll and makes you have dinner with him. I kinda felt like puking tbh. The route was totally an emotional roller coaster too because there were some moments where his possessiveness was like “GOD NO” but then other times where he’d like read you a gd bedtime story and said things like “I can’t sort all my emotions out properly right now, but I hope in time I can better express myself to you” and also him like making you pancakes and shit. And then two seconds later he’d be like “anyway there’s a cage in the apartment how about you try going in LOL”

Funny thing too was that I’d play the game on my work breaks which aren’t very long like 10-15min, and by the time I went back to work I’d be like screaming internally for the rest of the shift. Like I remember feeling shellshocked.

Even at the end of the route I’m not entirely sure Jumin gets “heal” necessarily. He’s… “better” but its clear you’re still the center of his world and if anything happened to you it’d probably break him on every level. Although in time he might get a bit better, but still. 

The route was a total ride. Even now I still feel kind of shaken up about the entire thing, kind of like remembering a bad past relationship or something like that. But at the same time I still kind of like Jumin too? Because like I said before he’s a pretty respectable and sometimes even funny person in his other routes. Like you feel a sense of security with him there, since he’s in control of the situation and always seems to know what to do and how to manage things? And before I played his route I felt like I understood him and knew where he was coming from. But his route itself revealed a much darker and deeper side of him I didn’t really expect. Like I’d HEARD about the shit in his route, but you never really know until you go play it right (I thought I was ready. I was wrong). But like I said I still can’t really hate him, and sometimes end up missing him. Because he DOES have a lot of things that I find REALLY attractive in a person physically and personality wise but itsssssssss just likeekekee

I also did do Zen and Jaehee’s routes later on. I enjoyed Zen’s to some effect, it was pretty good and it did help take off some of the edge of Jumin’s route. I also love when he comes and rescues you from “the hacker” and kicks down the god damn door to your apartment and saves you. THANKS ZEN. And I know the “I wont be able to hold myself back with you” thing is a turn on for some people. I’m kind of on the fence about it though LOL.

Jaehee’s route was also okay but kind of boring because 80% of your input after the halfpoint of the route is “cheer up Jaehee!” but I do like how she sticks it to Jumin–who btw acts like a childish idiot in her route and made me kinda dislike him more.

I also never did 707’s route and never found out the “true sinister hidden secrets of RFA” and ect. I could look it up on the wiki but I’m too lazy. The game was DEFINITELY an experience and much more raw and personable than I was expecting it to be. I think it messed a lot of us up anon LOL.

Hello! I've been meaning to ask this for a while but do you love Zen from Mystic Messenger? I've been trying to like him but I actually really despise the kissing up you have to do throughout his route, and I'm not too fond of Zen's character - the narcissism and being a jerk to Jumin and such. But I really want to understand him! May I ask you to describe what you like about him?

Yeah boi Zen is by far my favorite of the MM characters, hands down, no comparison. As to why I like him? I mean-? Why do any of us like our favourite characters? There are seeded reasons but to get down to the nitty gritty can be hard. Sometimes you just like characters.

On your points though I am happy to jump in and voice my two sense worth. The narcissism can be a little eye-roll worthy I can agree, but I never found it annoying, more or less because I liked him so I found it funny, especially when you have other members in the chat calling him on it and not pandering to him. When you play his route you can 100% go down the ass-kissing road, but you can progress the story and get the good end being mostly level headed. I believe there was only one major kissing-of-his-ego you had to play to while later on in his route and even that came after he hurt himself, so I personally found it a nice to see his mood improving.

‘Being an ass to Jumin’ ok this is what sort of gets me here, I find that a lot of people who hardcore love Jumin flat out hate Zen and paint Jumin as a victim (No saying you’re one but damn why? I laugh cos wtf.) Zen is certainly a dick to Jumin, but again this is explained why in his route, the two even find a middle ground and level of understanding of one another in the route. Let’s not forget it isn’t just Zen who picks baby fights with Jumin, Jumin starts it up with Zen in chat too at times. (Which, btw I love.)

Zen was the first route I played so there was always going to be a nostalgia hit there (I think that’s the word I’m looking for). I’ve always been of the mindset that your favourite characters are like geodes, you need to break them open to see what they’re really made of. Zen is seen as a cocky, self loving pretty boy but his inner struggles of self worth, family issues and how the whole word sees him more pain than he cares to admit. His route is a collection of things that happened to him that wasn’t his fault and really didn’t deserve (his foot, the sexual assault allegations, Echo Girl, people coming to his house to pester him bby pls) he deserved so much better. Sidenote, when shit officially hits the fan with Echo Girl, the proclaimed Selfie King, narcissism lord, changes icon from his face to a ill lit fire, you can’t tell me that nothing because damn.

The recently added April Fools DLC is 10/10 in ridiculousness so if you haven’t played that I recommend it. April 1st is Zens birthday so there is a lot of focus on him in the chat... That said, it’s April Fools so there are some quality moments with everyone acting bonkers and things not being quite right.

I could write a novel on his god damn Bad Ends but I will contain myself.

Character breakdown: Good ending route characters, Secret ending 02 Saeran.***

Jumin:

He’s just come home from work and your curled up on the couch with Elizabeth. Normally he would never move a cat after they’ve gotten comfortable, least of all Elizabeth 3rd, but when he sits next to you and starts to push you to the couch, she’s off. “Jumin, what are you-?” Your face is lighting up with blush as he pushes you down on the couch. “Just giving my lady a kiss.” And boy, does he give you a kiss, only the kind that makes your heart pound so hard it feels like it’s going to escape your chest.

Jaehee:

You’ve only just gone from partners to relationship, so sometimes Jaehee, feels like she’s doing something wrong. Still, you’re both seated on the couch watching a movie when she just feels like she needs to kiss you, so she moves to crawl over. Her face is bright red and she’s thinking that maybe this isn’t entirely decent, but you are just looking cuter and cuter the closer she gets. Your face just lights up and it feels like your heart is in your throat before her lips meet yours. You snuggle up closer now to finish off the movie.

Zen:

The movie is pretty nice, but at the moment you’re more focused on teh cupcake you’re eating. Zen chuckles. “Does it taste that good?” As you pop the last of it in your mouth you nod and then notice a look in his face. The albino shifts and then he’s licking frosting off your lip and you nearly choke on the last of your cupcake as he leans back with a smile. “Delicious~ Just like my cutie.” Better believe you’re makking.

Yoosung:

The movie won’t start until after Yoosung brings the snacks, so you’re just getting cozy on the couch when you get a sudden need to…”Achoo!” “MC are you alright?” He’s there in a flash in full doctor mode, crawling into the couch and over you to put his hand on your forehead and you’re trying to escape by scooching back in the couch, but now, you’re a hopelessly trapped blushing mess. “N-no, I’m just fine!” Yoosung realizes that he was maybe overreacting and pulls back, his own blushing mess now. You can’t help but giggle. “You’re cute, Yoosung.” That earns you him crawling over you again but with a totally different look on his face. “I’m not cute, I’m a man.” A very cute man, with a not so cute kiss.

Seven:

Just minding your own business when suddenly, “Boo!” You squeal and duck for the nearest cover, jumping over the back of the couch before you hear your tomato-head laughing his ass off, bent over with it in fact as you peek over the couch. “That’s so mean, Saeyoung.” The pout on your face makes him feel just a little guilty so he jumps over the couch to you. “I”m sorry…” Then a mischievous look appears on his face. “I think I know how to make it up to you, though..” Now Seven is crawling over you, pushing you gently to the couch and you aren’t resisting because your heart is pounding so hard you can hear it, and hoo boi, you definitely end up forgiving him.

Saeran:

It’s a little awkward as you’re watching the movie, almost two feet of space between you. Sometimes your boyfriend just isn’t comfortable with being touched. The unfortunate thing is that this movie is just a bit scary and you keep squeaking and covering your face. Saeran seems to notice, because now he’s pushing you down and crawling over to snuggle up. Guess he figured it would be nice to distract you by snuggling, but he ends up kissing you instead because he just can’t resist when your face is all covered in pink like that.
