My Duty

He shouldn't have took his eyes off you. He should have left Rina and Ellen to deal with the client. They've already offered but yet he was too focused on making sure the job was 100% done to his standards, leaving you alone just outside the hollow.

Seeing a child run into a hollow, You didn't alert Pubsec since no one was in the immediate area and you fear it would take too long, You didn't have a proxy. But you still couldn't stand by and do nothing. As soon as you saw that child escape into the hollow you were on your feet Your eyes wide and your heart pumping as you ran with them. Your heart practically stopped when the child is already so far ahead.

Despite your lungs feeling tight You yelled, squeezing every last bit of precious air out, desperately trying to get the child's attention. The child did turn your way but only to give you a small, playful smile before running in the opposite direction, disappearing from your view.

Your heart pounding in your chest as you race your vision tunneling is all you could focus on was finding the child before something else did. Unfortunately your fears came true As you look to see the child shaking crying holding its legs together cornered by a group of ethereals. You are not a proxy you are not experienced with hollows like your partner and his friends. But you sure as hell weren't going to let a child get eaten or corrupted. Your sweaty palms picked up a rock throwing it at one of the monsters getting the ethereals attention, the monsters turned toward The beast we looking one drooling from its mouth deming you a better meal. Your legs felt like jelly your teeth clenched as the monster stalked closer toward you.

"RUN!" You shriek snapping the kid out of their stunned fear. Eyes red with tears as they scramble to get up while the monsters are distracted. They look back at you their face scrunched up with horror as they hesitate before running off in the same direction you came in.

As soon as your attention was off the kid You look toward the ethereals desperately trying to stand your ground, despite your heart racing, despite your sweaty palms and weak knees you pick up a nearby pole swinging it around you demanding the things to get away from you.

But these ethereals smelled your fear the one with teeth grabbing the pole yanking it from your hand causing you to lose your balance.

You had no time to get back up as another ethereal this time with blades for arms took a slash at you, You jumped a little too late The blade of the monster cutting into your leg. The ethereals responded to your screams as if they took pleasure in playing with their food.

Tried to stifle your sobs euclair at the monsters before you clutching your bleeding wound you brace yourself.

Your whole body froze when you hear shout of your name. A blur of White and light blue rushes past you. A familiar form slashing at the monsters in front of you.

Von Lycaon gritting his teeth trying to stifle his growls as he massacres the ethereals. All he saw was red as he stomps and grinds his foot treating his enemies like trash.

His fur was standing on end His teeth bared finishing the last of his enemies before turning to you his eyes softened. His red eyes scanning over your body his heart dropped into a stomach when he saw the state of your leg. "Lycaon!" You choke out his name unable to hold back your pain .He gets on his knees pawing at your leg. You instinctively move your hands to let him look. The cut was an inch deep if you didn't get treatment just start losing more blood

"They hurt you, and You need medical attention." He murmured, letting out a soft whimper, seeing your clothes stained red with your blood. He takes a deep breath before picking you up in his arms. He ran as quickly as his lights could carry him. Your red blood was staining his paws, but he didn't care. His heart was beating so fast as he holds you close to him as if you were to die if he'd let you go.

His hands shook He couldn't keep his eyes off you as he handed you over to a member of PUBSEC. Everything in his instincts was telling him to not let you go, to protect you but he knew better than to impede on the work of professionals.

Zhu Yuan speaking on her radio, before you popping open a medical kit she pulls apart a large portion of wrapping repping it with her teeth before wrapping you with speed and precision. "This should, I hope stop the bleeding. Your cut deep, we're going to have to call for an ambulance. You're going to be okay, okay? Can you hold off for just a little bit longer?"

You only nodded clutching your bandage, The officer smiles "if anything happens let us know."

As Zhu Yuan left, Von Lycaon approached you unable to stay away from you any longer.

His hands were shaking His ears were flat against his head his head dipped his eyes staring at your bandaged leg.

"I didn't protect you"

You gently grabbed his clutching fist.

"That is not true. You are hurt, because of my incompetence. I failed to be there I chose The comfort of my client over my most precious master."

"Don't say that, none of this was your fault. It was my decision to run in there. I'm just glad that kid was safe."

His other hand caressed your cheek "I heard about that, What you did was courageous and admirable.... It was also scary, please don't do that again."

You couldn't help but give him a kiss which he happily accepted.

"Even if you don't blame me I would still like to be by your side even when the ambulance arrives I want to make up for what I did. I want to make sure you're okay. I don't want to leave your side again."
