New Nike Kiger and ReactX Wildhorse 10: Celebrating a Decade of Innovation for Adventurous Runner
Nike Trail is celebrating a decade of equipping adventurous athletes worldwide with the launch of the Kiger and ReactX Wildhorse 10 — two new trail running shoes meticulously designed to meet the needs of trail runners everywhere.
Since the inception of its modern trail franchise in 2014, Nike has harnessed its expertise in road and race cushioning, combined with off-road innovations dating back to the 1980s, to create footwear that allows runners to explore nature with top-tier performance and protection. Over the past decade, the brand has developed a collection of eight exceptional trail running shoes, each engineered to meet the evolving demands of this rapidly growing sector.
The Kiger and Wildhorse are the original trail models in Nike’s lineup, offering consistent innovation year after year to serve the needs of today’s trail runners. This commitment to continuous improvement reflects Nike's dedication to athletes who thrive beyond the confines of paved roads.
“One thing I’ve always appreciated about Nike Trail is the relentless drive to improve and innovate,” says ultrarunner Sally McRae, a Nike Trail athlete for over a decade. “As an athlete, it’s exciting to be part of the process, ensuring we create the best shoes to advance the sport.”
Nike understands that the trail can be an entry point into running for athletes of all backgrounds, and the new Kiger and Wildhorse models are crafted to deliver a perfect blend of comfort and performance, whether for training runs, ultramarathons, or anything in between.
The Kiger 10 is one of Nike’s lightest and most minimal trail shoes to date. This low-profile silhouette is designed for trail races up to 50K, offering agility and speed on the trails.
For the first time, the Kiger features a Vibram Megagrip outsole, delivering exceptional traction and durability in high-wear areas like the forefoot and heel. The 3.5mm multidirectional lugs ensure a strong grip on ascents and confident braking on descents, even in wet conditions.
A forefoot rock shield adds extra protection across varied terrains, while the responsive Cushlon 3.0 midsole cushions each step. The shoe's sleek leno weave upper offers specific zones of durability, breathability, and containment, ensuring protection and performance where it’s needed most, along with excellent drainage for wet conditions. A soft collar enhances comfort, and a secure heel pocket keeps the foot firmly in place.
“If you’re looking for a fast, low-profile shoe that can handle any terrain up to 50K, this is it,” says Bailey Kowalczyk, a sub-ultra specialist and Nike Trail athlete. “The Kiger 10 feels fast, precise, and stable on everything from flats to steep, technical trails. It’s the go-to performance shoe for sub-50K trail races.”
While the nimble Kiger 10 pairs with Nike Trail’s Ultrafly racing shoe in the Rapid footwear line, the ReactX Wildhorse 10 joins the rugged Zegama 2 in Nike’s off-road category.
The Wildhorse 10 is built to handle a wide range of trail conditions, from short neighborhood runs to challenging 100Ks. With increased traction, cushioned responsiveness, and reliable containment, this model is designed to conquer nearly any trail challenge.
New features include a 3mm taller stack height, a forefoot rock shield, and enhanced toe protection — all while shedding 35 grams from its predecessor. Nike’s durable ReactX foam provides 13% more energy return while reducing the midsole’s carbon footprint by at least 43% compared to Nike React foam. The All-Terrain Compound outsole with 4mm lugs ensures excellent grip and durability in all conditions.
This adds up to a dependable and durable shoe that will help runners achieve their goals, whether they’re preparing for a trail 5K or an ultramarathon.
“The Wildhorse is very special to me. It’s always been reliable, no matter the terrain or weather,” says Sally, the long-time muse for the Wildhorse. “I’ll be wearing the Wildhorse for my next 200-mile race because I genuinely love this new model and want to show athletes that you can achieve big dreams without the most expensive flagship shoe.”
The 10th editions of the Kiger and Wildhorse, emblematic of Nike’s trail-running innovation, will be available globally in April 2025.

A thought for the New Year: While on a ride yesterday, I came to a T-junction at the bottom of a descent. I took a right. From the corner of my eye, I spotted a grupetto approaching from the left. The 5 guys, kitted out in Etxeondo and riding Orbea rigs (wait, am I in Basque Country? 😅), caught up with me soon enough. We were riding against the wind, going up a false flat. As they overtook me, we exchanged greetings, and then something extraordinary happened. They invited me to get in their wheel and pointed to a position where I could slip in. That has never happened to me before. Furthermore, you could tell from a mile away that I’m a Joe Foreigner. It didn’t matter to them.
I could hold their wheel for only about 400m. Even though they were chatting away, exchanging gossip, the pace was furious, and my legs were about to fall off. They disappeared into the mountain as quickly as they appeared at the junction.
May your 2017 be filled with kindness.

7 CHIFFRES A RETENIR DE LA PERFORMANCE LUNAIRE DU BOSS DU JEU KILIAN A ZEGAMA.
• 1. 3h38’07’’ pour 42 bornes et 2736 mètres de dénivelé positif. Vitesse moyenne : 5’07’’/km.
