The army of GhostMeg is small but mighty...if I keep spamming art of them, I will eventually wear down the fandom and force them to ship what I do through exposure therapy...it's all coming together...

Posted a little late on tumblr, but finally plucked up the courage to post the opening of my Zarina/Caleb fic on AO3 in time for their DLC’s anniversary :)

Always loved the idea of Zarina’s bright investigative mind and indomitable spirit pursuing answers and starting with the man whose name she heard just before being taken, and exploring how that dynamic might unfold.

Caleb Quinn (Deathslinger) x Zarina Kassir || Headcanons

When Zarina had first discovered the decrepit town of Glenvale, she boldly assumed that nobody would be here left with its history.  

Unlucky (at first) for her to discover the fabled Deathslinger was still very much dwelling in the rundown place.

At first she was startled yet...excited that she had found the infamous Irish Immigrant but...she was quite worried for her safety knowing that she’d most likely get herself killed

Caleb’s first thoughts on Zarina weren’t exactly the best but...after sometime of bonding and talking at the bar...he didn’t think to harm her

Their relationship mostly blooms from the dozens of questions that Zarina has for Caleb. 

Of course, resulting in him answering as well as questioning the equipment she carries around with her. 

When Caleb is working mostly in his workshop, Zarina seems to take a liking on studying him. His mannerisms, the way he thinks, the way he created things with ease. She’s deeply interested in his past as well

She listens quite intently when Caleb goes on about the Hellshire Gang or simply stories about his life.

Caleb appreciates her listening and seeming...to care more than most did whenever he brought up his past

When Caleb gets a bit heated in an argument or simply just angry in general, Zarina is always there to comfort him

This comfort could vary from her gently holding his hand, to her kissing his cheeks and face, as well as just hugging him

Caleb would never do anything on purpose to hurt her...and she knows this even if he’ll never admit it

Chapter 8 : Grave of Glenvale

Summary:

The Hellshire Gang travel to Rattlepass in search for their newest bounty. Caleb is pained by the day's happenings, but urges on. They learn their bounty is hiding out in Glenvale, and they set off to Caleb's old home town. Caleb is uncertain of the return to Glenvale, he feels like something bad is going to happen...

Of course! I love doing these! (A bit of Zarina x Slinger as well towards the end. Just as a warning, it does get a bit mature but nothing graphic)

7.) Food / Cooking Headcanon

Growing up impoverished, Caleb can and will demolish any meal he is given. He'd been told repeatedly by his parents never to ask for seconds, simply because they didn’t have anymore to offer, and he kind of held that throughout his life. So, upon hitting the open landscape of the Midwest after leaving prison and earning his place as the head of 24 other men, Caleb never asked for a second or third helping of anything - he just took it.

Even though Caleb loves food, cooking is not one of Caleb's specialties. Burnt is the flavor of the night with any meal he cooks. Don’t even ask how he manages to char stews, he just does. Most, if not all, of his gang take cooking duties from each other just so Caleb won’t think he needs to. Caleb doesn’t mind either. He’s got more of a critic mindset then he does a chef mindset. 

10.) Sleep Headcanon

You ever have that one relative who does a lot of driving, either for work or during vacations, and when they find the first chair outside of a car they pass out, hard and fast? That’s Caleb. 

Sleep is a rare occurrence because he and his gang are always on high alert. However, when he does get a moment of peace, it’s: Sit down, adjust the busted knee, lean back and give it two minutes before he’s out. Caleb can be out like a switch but rarely ever lets himself sleep outside of nighttime. Sleeping in a chair is relaxing. Sleeping at night surrounded by his gang, that’s the deep sleep his body needs. 

14.) Romance Headcanon

This man is no stranger to sexual relationships. You hit any number of saloons in a month, you’re going to encounter a few ladies of the night offering their services while you enjoy your drink. While Caleb may have indulged himself here and there, those were just one offs. When it comes to comital relationships, Caleb is a moron. The first, and basically only, relationship Caleb could ever say he’s had is with the survivor he’d come in with. 

Zarina, on the other hand, is no stranger to relationships. She’s had plenty, but Slinger is by far her strangest. Neither expected to see the other as a possible option for a partner, but it was Zarina who managed to bring it together. She’d done all that research into Hellshire Pen. when she was still on Earth - it only took one close look at the engravings on the side of Slinger’s rifle for Zarina to put two and two together. It’s not everyday you see ‘Death to Bayshore’ inscribed twice - once on the wall of a decrepit cell and once on the side of a man’s weapon. Safe to say, she knew it was him and when she confronted him about it, Slinger’s initial reaction was anger. But, after some explaining, Slinger realized Zarina was on his side; an outsider, not one from his gang, thought his actions were justified. He’d never met someone who meant that and felt that she was somewhat trustworthy. 

From then on, their relationship only grew. From enemies to somewhat less enemies to acquaintances. It took a while but Slinger eventually got used to seeing Zarina and humoring her questions. There’d come days where he’d actually want her presence and if he didn’t get, he’d get upset and drink or shoot things. 

When they eventually got so comfortable with one another that ‘friends with benefits’ was a title worth considering, Zarina had a lot to teach Slinger about actually giving a shit about your partner. She learned quick that he was all horn-dog, all the time. Sure, getting tossed up onto the Saloon’s counter so he could kiss her exposed skin was nice, but Slinger was clueless about anything that wasn’t physical. Teaching him that, ‘sometimes I’d rather just be around you then with you,’ or that, ‘one simple peck on the cheek doesn’t mean I’m down to go upstairs,’ was like pulling teeth. But, Zarina was in it for the long haul and she wasn’t going to stop visiting him just because he wanted sex 24/7. 

With a lot of help from Zarina, Caleb got good at two main things. First, he got good at asking for things. Before he simply demanded or just started doing/taking what he wanted. Now, he’ll ask maybe half the time, which is a great improvement in Zarina’s eyes. Getting Slinger to communicate all of his feelings was a pipe dream - Zarina would take what she could get. 

Second, he’s dropped most of the sensual part of his physicality. Kisses can just be kisses instead of invitations for more, and hugs are just that, hugs. Zarina appreciates his efforts at putting work into their relationship and rewards him quite frequently when she can tell he needs it ;)

Would love to see some Deathslinger x Zarina headcanon if you're fine with it!

-When they first met, Zarina hated Caleb. She has no sympathy for murderers. Caleb, on the other hand, was absolutely charmed by her. He liked the fire she had, the spice.

-This man literally would not leave her alone. Every chance he got, he would flirt with her. Zarina, of course, wasn’t impressed. One time, he got a little too bold and patted her ass while she was on his shoulder. Lets just say his balls got to meet her boots, and they did not have a good time.

-Eventually, Zarina begrudgingly grew to like the man. In the rare moments of peace during trials, he would tell her snippets of his story. She slowly realized that he wasn’t killing for the same reason her father’s killer was. He was angry and lonely, and she could sympathize with that.

-Zarina is the one who initiated the first kiss. Caleb tends to ramble on because this man doesn’t know how to stop talking, so Zarina kissed him to shut him up. Caleb was at first too shocked to speak, but after those first few seconds of silence, he went back to rambling. Being the cheeky asshole he is, he always teases her about it.

-Sometimes, between trials, she sneaks off to his realm and they have a drink together and talk about their pasts and dreams for the future.

You ship Caleb x Zarina?

Hmm, not necessarily (yet)! 

I find it difficult to really nail down who I ship, and when I have 2 characters in my drawing that’s usuaaally because I think they look aesthetically pleasing together! Now if I draw them together more than twice (like Bubba x Amanda), I think then it’s safe to say that I ship them! So the answer would be... not yet?
