When Brian and I got married we changed both our last names to Nicols instead of taking o e of the ones we already had. It was part power move because or families hate each other and part queer culture letting us change who we let in our 'real' family.

Recently Brian's younger sibling, Addy (Ace/Aro/A-Enby) and our hella cool roomie (Redacted) (Ace-Demi) have gotten engaged to be lethal spouses and platonic life partners and are planning an Imbolc wedding next year! I'm so excited for them! Yesterday they were in the back seat talking about which name to take and they both kind of agreed that their own names were a bit lacking and now they're considering using Nicols since Brian basically raised Addy on their own and we- as surrogate parents- are doing our best to get therm out of the abusive biological parental situation they are living in now.

I'm so blessed to have such good people in my life and in my little family. If you would have told my seven-year-old self- who was just starting to realize something was wrong with my body vs self relationship- that at 23 I would be gloriously happily married, living life authentically as a man, helping my 'child' plan a wedding and preparing to start school for a dream job... I think fetus Zak would think I was full of shit, but I also think he could really have something to look forward to.
