hii i have written up comparisons on the 3 main neoclones <3 grundo's cafe is definitely my favorite overall but they all have their pros and cons

grundo's cafe

- start with 6 pets, more expensive to expand than the other neoclones (done through buying tokens) and that type of token increases in cost every time you buy them

- by far the best for games in terms of number of games, optimization for mobile, and np payout + gives random item prizes including paint brushes (high earnings per game and high np cap, able to get even more if you do neoschool)

- most frequent negative random events (maybe i am just unlucky?)

- pant devil attractors are a necessity with how often the wheels destroy your items (i don't think this is just me)

- can buy a shield to protect your pet/self from random events/color changes but it is a) expensive b) gets damaged over time if not equipped to a pet and c) has to be equipped to each pet if you ever want to have them active without risking them

- has by far the most extensive and engaging holiday events of the 3 (at least judging by the halloween events lol)

- no fanmade pets but has the most exclusive color options of the 3, lots of alts including older style art (downside is that it's much more expensive to get the alt art than it is on moderneo)

- only neoclone that has alts of even older art like the old jubjub and zafara

- pets can't have the same name

- most dailies and games have a chance to give you a relic which can be sold at a high price or exchanged for warehouse credits to buy items like alternative color and shield tokens (relics decently common, can usually get 1 or 2 per day through quests, less common through games)

- has a lot of fun unlockable site themes (plus a dark mode) and a useful extra sidebar but not as well optimized for mobile as virtupet (have to zoom in and scroll around some)

- doesn't have as many pages of employment center jobs as moderneo and the payout is lower - np reward for basic jobs seems to be mostly proportional to how many items are being asked for

- seems to have the most active users of the 3

- only neoclone with a functional auction house atm

- has neoschool where you pick a subject and then answer a question + bring random school supplies every day and then are rewarded with a relic (worth more than ones you get from dailies) and double items/np from games for a week

moderneopets

- can have up to 24 pets from the start and can get more with an item called animalis (only about 300k currently)

- not the best for games in terms of number of games, mobile optimization, and np payout (very low cap on max np and low earnings per game)

- best way to make np through games is tyranu evanu which has a higher max np cap but isn't the most fun to play imo

- most frequent positive random events (constantly finding np on the floor etc)

- has lots of fanmade pets (including my beloved motere) and some colors exclusive to moderneo

- also has alts exclusive to moderneo (including v nice color palette swaps)

- pets technically can't have the same name but there's an option to add zero width characters so you can still use whatever name you want

- much easier to please the 2 kings and significantly higher np payout

- not as well optimized for mobile as virtupet (have to zoom in and scroll around)

- best for employment agency jobs - each basic job gives at least 10k no matter how many items are being asked for, has the most pages of options

- can give one item to a pet to have visible on their lookup

- more active than virtupet but less active than grundo's cafe - good for being able to get morphing potions from the magic shop, bad for trying to sell stuff

- start with 8 pets, you can get extra pet slots through the virtupet mall where you can buy stuff with using virtugems and np

- you can get virtugems by crushing items (more valuable items are worth more)

- the cost of the extra pet slot item does increase every time you buy it

- has some exclusive colors (including a plushie lutari that i really really like)

- equal to grundo's cafe in terms of mobile optimization for games, has less games but still a good amount, highest np cap but lower earnings per game

- can fully disable random events that change your pet color

- best mobile layout (don't need to zoom in and scroll around like you do for the other neoclones) though worth noting that the neopets central bar is off at the moment (you have to tap an icon over to get to the right page)

- pets can have the same name

- can give multiple items to pets as treasure that is visible on their lookup

- only one page of options for jobs at the employment agency, lower payout than moderneo but doesn't seem to be proportional to how many items are being asked for basic jobs like how it is for grundo's cafe

- by far the smallest player base, i am often literally the only person online lol

- nearly impossible to get some items like a plushie paint brush (no one selling them)

my two earliest neopets ocs i can remember were a darigan zafara named angus (burger king had a lot of commercials about their angus beef and i thought it was a cool name) and a christmas zafara named angel. i’ve now made it my life goal to achieve these pets on one of my side accounts

i remember as a kid i got really into the auction house because i wasn’t very good at any of the games and that was the best place i could find paint brushes cheap, and i was made to log out and go on a car ride in the middle of my bidding war. and, miraculously, when i got back to my house i had won the auction. a christmas zafara was my first ever painted pet and i was so excited.

when i check my old account now shes not on there, i have like 4 korbats instead. i guess i must have put her in the pound at some point

When did you make your neopets blog and what inspired you to do so?

I’ve actually had two blogs prior to this, both of which I deleted over time due to inactivity and just not having the time to handle a whole second blog aside from my main alongside life stuff. I don’t remember what my URLs were or in what order, I think some of my old URLs were supernovamote, ogrins, and cupidnegg... But I don’t remember in what order, or which of those were used for which blog! Anyway, I remade because I’ve loved Neopets for something like 16 years now and it’s one of my constant passions, although sometimes I play sort of on and off if I’m busy with other stuff, but I ALWAYS come back to it. I like having a place where I can throw my Neo-related thoughts into the void and participate with other older players who love it too without making my main blog too messy. This time I’m determined to stick to this blog and not move again, haha.

What is your favorite neopets species?

Honestly this is a really difficult decision, but I’m pretty partial to Poogles, Ixis, Moehogs, Zafaras, and Hissi... I also really like Bori and Lupes and Chombies... And Cybunnies?! Shh, I know that’s far from just one, but I can’t really pick! My favorite pet of mine is a Poogle though, so I feel a lot of special affection towards those guys.

What is your favorite paintbrush color?

Probably Darigan, Disco, and Lost Desert, though Burlap looks AMAZING and could easily rise close to the top once we have more pets. And I have a lot of nostalgia for UC Faeries.

Do you go on the neoboards, and if so which one(s) is your favorite?

I don’t really use the neoboards much, it’s just too stressful and fast paced for me and I’ve never been super talkative on forum-based sites for long periods of time because I just can’t keep it up haha

What team are you joining for the altador cup? Who is your favorite player?

I’m Team Lost Desert till I die for nostalgia sake. I’m Arab and as a kid I was like “I gotta be Lost Desert since that’s where I’m from!” and I have too much affection for em now. I love Leera and Derbi. However, in all of the AC, I think Team Darigan is extremely sexy and Tandrak and Layton have the best and sexiest designs overall.

What’s your favorite game on neopets?

Ugga Smash. It’s the only game I ever got a trophy in LOL.

Who is your favorite neopets NPC?

My favorite Neo NPCs overall are from The Darkest Faerie, especially the Ixi Chieftain, as well as the Werelupe King, Gelert Assassin, and Prince Tourin Rathbone, but as for on-site NPCs I love Rosie the Grarrl!

I don’t really wanna tag anyone since idk who’s down to do stuff like this but I definitely encourage anyone following to participate if they want!!

Defenders of Neopia is a popular feature of neopets requiring you to battle and defeat certain challengers in the Battledome! There are currently 2 series which have their own comic strips and trophies to be won. The first Defenders of Neopia series contains 17 challengers who range from easiest (first mission) to hardest (last mission). Unconverted Neopets. I made a post over a year ago about my Neopet protagonists, and at the end said I’d draw the villains soon. Well... here they are finally!! I was thinking about them today and wanted to draw them xDD We have Aigo the Aisha, King Cooger the Kougra, Poutine the Poogle, and Zephyrnie the Zafara! I’ll talk more about em under a cut

Day 190/365

King Cooger is probably the best one to start with xDD He’s the king of Meridell, almost always called just ‘the king’, or ‘your majesty’ if being spoken to. He’s grumpy, and can be lazy, but he usually will do what he thinks is best for his city. However, he really really hates dragons. He banned dragons from Meridill, and with their resistance, caused a decade long war, that he and his forces won. Afterward, when a Draik hatchling is discovered and brought to his attention, he decides the best course of action to hold a public feast, with the Draik as the main course. Ixi and Lupe save the Draik and flee, so the king, in a rage, decides the best course of action if to pursue them, along with his three workers. Not a very reasonable thing to do, but the king’s hatred of dragons and anger make him irrational. (And the fact that Lupe was his favorite Royal knight, and a close friend, also factored. Cooger really wants Lupe back and on his side!)

Aigo is an enthusiastic Aisha who works as the Royal Adviser for Cooger, as well as the castle’s Secretary and maintenance guy. He’s an engineering genius who enjoys fixing things up, and even inventing things. He keeps track of the king’s schedule, and bounces ideas with the king to help determine what should be done, but sometimes the king won’t listen, and Aigo doesn’t like making the king upset. In fact, Aigo secretly has a HUGE crush on the king and would do practically anything for him.

Zephyrnie works as the castle’s butler, keeping the place orderly and serving meals to the king and others. She also makes diet plans for the king, and attempts to give him fitness regimes but he’s more reluctant to follow those. Zephyrnie is a fitness buff, basically if she isn’t doing her castle duties, she’s probably working out somewhere. She’s very competitive too, and before they were on opposite sides of the law, she and Lupe would often spar with each other (though, even now when they run into each other, they’re secretly competing half the time.)

And lastly, Poutine. I’ve talked about him the other month, but to reiterate, he’s the castle gardener, who mostly keeps to himself taking care of plants, painting, and writing emo poetry. He hates that he was dragged along on this chase, and has no intention of fighting or trying to capture Lupe, Ixi, and Draik. He claims to be a pacifist, though Zephyrnie claims its just cuz he’s small and weak and knows he’d lose in a fight (and she’s mostly right honestly.) 

I should note Poutine is really small because I always imagined poogles as really small compared to everything else. I didn’t know that he and Aigo’s sizes really should be switched, but this is how I see them all so whatever xDD

Best and worst halloween, baby, 8bit, and royal pets? Fave and least fave petpets?

HalloweenBest:Chombys!! I love all of the pets with skeleton designs tbh but the little fangs are what makes this design for me!! I also like the lil black and red striped tale!!

Worst:Kikos…

I dont like this fuckers eyes. At all. Hate them in fact.

BabyBest:God so many of them are so cute and pure its hard to choose ;u; Honestly its a tie between korbats and gnorbus!!

Im honestly biased towards korbats bc it was my first serious pet back in the day but like look at it, its lil wings and lil bow and lil pacifier, its just soooo cute ;w;!!

Tbh im not the hugest fan of gnorbus (depending on the brush) but look at this lil bean. I love him, hes so pure and just looks so happy to see you!!!

Worst:

This motherfucker right here. What the fuck. None of the other birds are just eggs why these. I feel robbed.

8-BitBest:Hhhhhhhhh. Lennys I guess

Like, I think without the shirt they look pretty good, especially compared to the other pets :V Theyve kept their basic stance from all the other lennys unlike a lot of the 8bits that have changed their pose and whatnot

Worst:I will never shut up about the korbats. Ever.

They look so fucking bad omg, their faces look like Piglet from Winnie the Pooh and I fucking hate iiiiiiitttt

RoyalBest Royal Boy:Boris!! I really love their design! They give me a King Stefan from Maleficent vibe tbh!!

Best Royal Girl:Rukis oooooooooooomg just look at her. Shes flawless. Like, I honestly cant put into words how much I love this design, its so lovely!!!

Worst Royal Boy:Sadly, zafaras. As much as I love this species I think the colours on this one looks really really bad like. He’s wearing blue pants maybe and hes also blue and it just looks awkward, not to mention the shades of blue and purple are a colour blind persons nightmare (my brother who has trouble differentiating between purples and blues agrees lmao)

Worst Royal Girl:Scorchios :V Once again a colour scheme problem. The red and pinks look absolutely horrid together smh. Id definitely trade a royal girl scorchio just to get the clothes and then put it on another colour, white probably :0

I want to go back to Colorado for a little bit; our house is in the Rockies and it’s very pretty in the summertime. I really like the atmosphere and the evergreen trees in Colorado, and I’m thinking about getting a Columbine tattooed on me somewhere. My brother has the state flag over his heart, but I want it on my arm. (Not for the tragedy, but because it’s the state flower and they always grow wild in our yard.)

Ha HA I’m gonna take this chance to talk about my local best friend. She’s just had a baby (who’s cute i wanna cry every time i see her) and she always roots for me. Her husband gives her shit sometimes and she gives it right back - she doesn’t take no for an answer, she’s so stubborn. But she’s huge into recycling, saving the animals and planet, and she adores cats. She used to have an orange cat named Butters, and she kisses his urn good night sometimes.
