Intel Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs: Raptor Lakes Successor
Intel Arrow Lake-S
While the chip maker concentrates on the upcoming Lunar Lake launch, which is a crucial product for the company’s “AI PC” endeavours, Intel has been extremely quiet about its Arrow Lake “Core Ultra 200” CPUs. However, several Arrow Lake chips have been surfacing over the last few months, and Intel have some new updates courtesy of @InstLatX64.
With in Intel’s test platforms, three new chips have been found, and the log files for these systems have provided some intriguing information. An Arrow Lake-S 24-core, an Arrow Lake-HX 24-core, and an Arrow Lake-H 16-core component are the three chips. The important part is the base clock speeds, even though the core configurations are nothing new 24C/24T and 16C/16T processors have also been seen in the past.
A base clock of 3.6 GHz is assigned to the Intel Arrow Lake-S 24 Core and 24 Thread processor, an increase of +600 MHz over the previous entry (3.0 GHz) and +400 MHz over the previous desktop flagship, the Core i9-14900K. The Intel Arrow Lake-HX 24 core and 24 thread CPU has also been sighted with a 3.0 GHz base clock, which is an increase of +800 MHz over the previous HX flagship, the Core i9-14900HX. This chip is expected to have a die layout similar to the desktop SKU.
Intel Arrow Lake-S 24 Core and 24 Thread already know that the upcoming lineup will be slightly more power-efficient than the 14th Gen Raptor Lake and 1st Gen Core Ultra chips, so things are looking great for the lineup. If these are the base clock speeds of the new Intel Arrow Lake CPUs, then Intel has really tuned them to be much higher than the existing parts.
Additionally, it appears that Intel has increased the clock rates of its desktop lineup to 5.7 GHz from the 5.5 GHz of the initial ES prototypes, according to fresh sources.
AMD’s flagship Ryzen 9 9950X CPU, which has 16 Zen 5 cores, 32 threads, and a maximum clock speed of 5.7 GHz, should be compatible with the 5.7 GHz rates. Although the speed will be -100 MHz slower than the Core i9-13900K, the IPC enhancements should offset the clock speed regression. Furthermore, this is a new node; 13th and 14th Gen chips could only achieve such high clock rates because they employed an improved “Intel 7” technology.
The Core i9-12900K was the first chip in that generation to achieve boost clocks of up to 5.2 GHz. However, in order to achieve the promised clock rates, the later chips had to employ extremely high power consumption, which did result in a number of issues that consumers are currently encountering. In order to maintain stability across games and programmes, Intel had to modify the power limitations, which resulted in a decrease in clock speeds and performance.
The first member of the new family, Intel’s Arrow Lake-S CPUs, are probably going to be released in October. The mobility components are anticipated to follow in late 2024 or early 2025 (CES timeframe). The new Z890 motherboards, which debuted at Computex 2024 and feature the brand-new LGA 1851 socket, will go hand in hand with the desktop portfolio.
Intel leads computer technology due to its innovative inventions. The Arrow Lake-S series is Intel’s latest effort to improve performance. This device is set to revolutionise desktop computing with its remarkable configuration of 24 cores and 24 threads. This article delves into the intricacies of this outstanding CPU, examining its architecture, performance indicators, and possible uses.
The Intel Arrow Lake-S, with its staggering 24 cores and 24 threads, represents a major advancement in desktop processor core count. This beats the top processor right now, the Core i9-14900K, by a difference of two cores and threads.
Potential architectural improvements
Potential Heterogeneous Design
There are rumours that the Arrow Lake-S will use a mix of energy-efficient E-cores and high-performance P-cores, much like Apple’s M1 processor. Better task allocation based on workload demands would be possible as a result.
Raised Base Clocks
Benchmarks suggest possible performance advantages by pointing to a notable base clock increase over earlier generations.
Possible Advantages
Improved Content Creation
Programmes like video editing, 3D rendering, and intricate scientific simulations may profit greatly from the high core count and clock rates.
Better Multitasking
The Arrow Lake-S can run numerous demanding applications at once with efficiency because to its additional cores and threads.
Boost Gaming Performance
Although clock speed is important for gaming, having more cores may give you a significant advantage in highly threaded games.
Uncertainties and Points to Take
Release Date
Anticipated to be released in October 2024.
Motherboard Compatibility
Arrow Lake-S CPUs are anticipated to be released alongside new Z890 motherboards.
Power Consumption
Power draw may rise as the number of cores increases. Perhaps you should upgrade your power supply.
To sum up
In the desktop CPU market, the Intel Arrow Lake-S 24 Core CPU seems to be a formidable competitor. Its large number of cores, perhaps enhanced design, and higher base clocks set it up for outstanding performance under taxing workloads. But before choosing to upgrade, things like cost, power usage, and motherboard compatibility must be taken into account. For more information about the launch schedule and capabilities of the Arrow Lake-S, keep an eye out for official announcements from Intel.
