Kurama versus Yomi in the next Makai tournament...
Yomi: Kurama, prepare yourself. I have waited for more than a thousand years to have this fight against you. I know everything about you. I learned everything from you and I will use it against-
Kurama: Yomi, I'm sorry for everything. Will you take me back?
Yomi: ??? Kurama!! You want to come back to me??? Taichou, I am sorry for everything too I know I was difficult. It was all my faul- *face-eating plant sicced at him, he passes out in 1 minute from lack of oxygen*
Announcer: That was fast?? Anyway, Kurama wins!
Shura: Nooooooo papa! 😭
Yusuke: What the fuck?? Why did I have to fight him for 60 hours if he could be beaten in 1 minute??????

Impulse Analyses 11/5/24 (election day. ironic that i'm watching an anime with a tournament that was essentially founded "for the people" around a time like this): YYH Ep 111
this will bounce off of my previous analysis, so i won't be directly listing new themes here. again, spoilers beyond the cutoff
I SCRATCHED MY HEAD SO SHARPLY SEEING WHERE YOMI DECIDED TO END UP
Even though I knew his fight with Yusuke has shown him something new and has awakened something new in him, I really thought Yomi was going to continue being a deprecating dirtbag. Glad to see I was wrong and that Yomi would go on a journey towards a better self. Also happy to see that he respects Kurama's wishes to leave his past self behind.
It did take some of the intrigue I saw in Yomi into a sudden 180 (I feel like there was a lot more to be said with Yomi's character). But I dig the message. I guess one good experience with a fellow being has the potential to change someone who was in a 500-year-long stalemate of a war.
The small decision to have Kuwabara in spirit (figuratively, not literally) in certain moments was a really nice touch. It shows how much of an impact he had in characters such as Yusuke and Kurama. It really got me when Kurama started thinking of Kuwabara and he smiled afterwards. Being a friend of Kuwabara really meant something for him, and using this as a way to show that was a really good call.
Literal cherry on top of this story of identity
Because I heard the ending was not the best (according to notes from Togashi), I was really curious as to how the tournament (and the series as a whole) would wrap itself up in less than 2 episodes (because it did seem like there would've been a lot more fighting had there not been a timeskip). Then the story pulls a HxH tenfold and gets to the end of the fights in no time.
Yusuke lost, but so did Yomi. The tournament and the state of the three worlds resolved in a pretty well-thought-out way (a bit corny, but it worked to give a hopeful ending).
Seeing that the characters (probably) won't be getting growth after this, I'm actually kinda disappointed with where a few ended up:
Yusuke still has a bit of a rough, spiky exterior
Hiei is still a brooding lone wolf who refuses to reveal his secret to Yukina
The seeds are set, and the characters came out of this as better & more well-rounded people compared to where they first started:
Yusuke is more committed than ever to giving life a good shot and growing up
Hiei backs down on his decision to give Kurama the necklace ("You'll give this to her, at your own pace")
In those respects, I like the hopefulness this part of these two journeys convey. Really good riveting lessons and themes all around (accept yourself, it's okay to feel a lot of things during your journey; it's okay to take a while to get to something, just try to get some closure with the people and things you care about before you regret it; just keep living and living in a way that fulfills you)
But for an ending to an anime of +100 episodes, I'm a little mixed on these two. It's like if Hunter x Hunter ended after the Chairman Election arc. The characters progressed just enough to see the horizon (some can see it more than others), but it's definitely not the end for them. Maybe the last episode will show a bit of something
I don't hate it, I just felt like it could've been handled a tad better. But yes, I wholeheartedly understand and respect the reasons why Togashi wanted to end the story where he ended it. Health is miles more important than a perfect story
also when Kurama said "I'm not interested in you that way" to Hiei, I died a little inside. I really thought they would've, idk... They seemed to have helped each other crop their positive traits up when they first appeared.

some notes about Ep 109 & 110
109: I felt so bad for both Hiei and Mukuro by the end of their fight. They deserve everything good that can and will come their way. Really loved how their fight was essentially an encounter where they both learn to see value in each other & themselves, and one where they help free each other from their pasts. A fight that I think would resonate with a great amount of people
110: Yomi and Yusuke being toxic rough rowdy fighting guys is so funny, heartfelt, and,
actually, for some reason, it's also sad, to me. It's hard to explain the last one, I'm only having these thoughts now.
Like, at this point in the story, both of these characters really only have fighting (and proving their strength) as their one outlet to feel something, to make their mark on the world, and maybe even to feel seen. I thought Yusuke vs. Chu was pushing it with the humanity and the subtle tragedy of it all but holy moly. These guys may be smiling through those punches, but I hope they may smile more often. I'm proud of them for finding something to smile about. But man does it have to be like this?
...WAIT A GOD DANG MINUTE
Shura yelling for Yomi at the climax of Yomi vs. Yusuke, and that being the thing that kept Yomi standing, is also nice, come to think of it.
Shura, despite suffering a brutal, even personal loss to his father, still loved him enough to cheer him on.
Yomi, after realizing that his son, no, after realizing that at least someone, cares for him, sees one reason to keep standing.
They both saw value in each other (and themselves) at the end :)
Yeah you go take that journey and come out of it a better person Yomi or I'll yank your ears
Also team masho oh my lord I'll miss that team of goofballs
Edit: if i got something wrong, feel free to let me know. Thanks for reading!

How are you holding up, Shura? Everything going okay in Gandara?
I'm holding up pretty well. Way better than when I first started. Everything's going pretty smoothly now. Got some helpers. In the process of building an orphanage and a playground cause we need more of those in the Makai. The people have mixed feelings about me, though. Some like me, and some don't. I think the people that don't just think of me as my father's clone cause sometimes I hear them whispering behind my back that I'm gonna turn out just like him. But I'm not him, and I don't wanna be compared to him!"
//OOC:
There's so few Shura pics to use when it comes to these asks. I have so little pics of him bc he's like barely shown.

Day 13.5? Did this late last night/early this morning. They’re not polished but I still like them for what I put into them!
The first one is a nod to one of the things I did like from the live action, and that’s the idea that Yusuke taught Keiko to hold her own against a standard goon. Especially in the manga, Keiko did not come off as someone who enjoys being a damsel in distress. And if I accidentally gave them the power scheme of the pink and green power rangers…. Well apparently all my 90’s ships are starting to mix together XD.
The second is Shura with his little sister, Miku. Apparently I can only make fanon kiddos as OCs but I adore her. And don’t let that scowl fool you, Shura would kill for her without batting an eye.

"Your family will be mad!" Shura warned Sota as she started to climb over the balcony. "It's their fault for taking too long!" Sota snipped, shrugging her shoulder. "We'll get married at your fathers, and when everyone stops having a fit, we'll have a big wedding for them." Shura grinned at Sota charmed as always. "For them." Sota grinned, "Our wedding is tonight."

The Demon World Monthly returns!!!
I have been gone for a long time but I have returned to celebrate, though late, the 2nd anniversary of our beloved magazine! This time we feature the ruling family of the territory of former Gandara!
Yomi, Shura and my Oc!
There is also a story video included featuring a conversation between a senior guard and a new guard. Tidbits of my fanfic story can be glimpsed here! Yomi and his family is currently on vacation in the human world (they're not in japan though, since he wants to escape the bothersome spirit world forces-and you guys can probably guess where they are from the clothing) and the fireworks really fascinates the young Shura!
Another note: The poppy flower is August's flower of the Month along with Gladiolus. Orang colored poppy specifically, denotes health and regeneration hinting at the fate of Shura (and Yomi eventually) after almost dying until my Oc finds and saves him. The daisy on her hair on the other hand, alludes to her personality and role as it means purity, innocence, new beginnings, joy and cheerfulness.
Well this is a rather long post but I hope you guys enjoy this illustration. I'm also reopening my commissions if anyone is interested!

Anti-Parent Trap
Summary: Chu and Yomi are getting along! The kids don't like it! (500+ words)
***
“What are you staring at?” Rinku asked Shura as his sparring partner once again seemed to become distracted by something on the sidelines of the training grounds.
“Chu,” Shura answered simply, a little growl in his voice.
“Chu?” Rinku repeated, snapping his eyes over to where his guardian should be loitering.
Leaning against a far wall, he spotted Chu where he'd last seen him. He was laughing and grinning along with Yomi, who seemed to be enjoying a conversation with the man who was quite literally his polar opposite in almost every way. Rinku observed the scene, trying to see what was so weird about Chu. Yomi laughed again, with his head thrown back, and his teeth exposed, and something clicked inside Rinku's head.
“Is it because he’s getting along with your Dad?” Rinku asked, guessing as to what Shura was so distracted by.
“Yes!” Shura snapped, wrinkling his nose with dislike, “My father… he’s grinning.”
"Yeah, he's laughin' pretty hard too!” Rinku agreed, “I thought he only did that around you or when he was being a snotty bitch.”
Shura snapped over to Rinku, his face flushed with irritation, “My father is not a bitch!”
Rinku smirked, “Yeah he is… he’s a big ol’ snooty bitch!”
Shura tackled Rinku then, and the pair wrestled for several minutes before they eventually parted. Rinku rubbed his bloody nose, while Shura wiped his sleeves clean of dust, his nose pointedly stuck in the air.
“Lucky hit!’ Rinku snorted.
“Sure,” Shura said, his tone as icy as his father's, an arched eyebrow lifted perfectly up in the air. He turned back to Chu and his father, frowning as he watched his father shift closer to the Mohawk sporting giant.
“You worried your dad likes Chu or something?” Rinku asked, holding his bloody nose, “Nothing wrong if they’re making friends.”
“It's not friendship I’m worried about,” Shura snorted.
Rinku turned to Shura, and then went back to gawking at Chu and Yomi, “...You don’t think that they… that they’re flirting over there, do you?”
“I don’t know,” Shura sighed, “But whatever is happening over there, we should put a stop to it.” Shura turned to Rinku, catching Rinku’s gaze as the boy turned to give him a puzzled look.
“Think about it,” Shura instructed, “Do you want to risk becoming brothers?”
Rinku was silent for a long moment, before he nodded rapidly, “Okay… Okay. Fair enough. So what do we do?”
Shura nodded, and crossed his arms. With an arrogant air, he proclaimed, “Simple. Sabotage.”
Rinku nodded, wiping the last of the blood from his nose, “Alright. Sabotage.”
Chu and Yomi carried on their conversation, unaware of the two little gremlins plotting against them.
