allow me to add another layer of autism bc my ass forgot. IF! YOU HAVENT WATCHED, NOR SEEN, NOR READ ANYTHING RELATED TO THE YUYUYU SERIES-- here's where I prompt you to find any form of media relating to yuki yuna is a hero and to skim over it-- read it, indulge and gain info. because now, we are heading into SPOILER TERRITORY! (under a cut bc.)

YuYuYu revolves around the "truth" the truth of the world outside of the wall-- the truth of the hero system that was given. the truth of the gods motives and the preservation of humanity. I need Crescendo to discover this slowly. I need them to lose trust in themselves, in GOD, and most of all-- each other. What if, after they discover "mankai" (blooming) and sange (wilting of flowers) and they sacrifice a respective part to the gods (an example is kiyama losing a leg-- shion an eye-- miharu their voice, etc etc) and they realize-- "who are we saving?" "who are we fighting for?" and most of all-- "are we just a living sacrifice?" and who does the blame fall upon? the gods are overlooked-- the organization working as a messenger for the gods is overlooked, it all falls down on whoever leads the club. fingers are pointed, trust is severed immediately. We are given the chance to protect the world from the wrath of the gods at the cost of our own bodies. In our generation, the gods aren't picky. They don't need a pure lineage, young, pure girls. No, they want *us*. We with the highest aptitude with the gods. we who are stronger together through the gods power. are pulled apart limb by limb to keep themselves running. who's to blame for the graveyard that stands outside of the school.. and, who's next? nobody is next. in fact, nobody can die. Refrence to the episode where the girl who has mankai'd (bloomed) 21 times and sacrificed practically their entire body only to be worshipped like a god. she told yuki and tougou that they cant die. her heart doesn't even beat anymore and yet she's still alive. does that make sense? i want crescendo to suffer under the powers of the gods. yet I want their bond to be strengthened through this do you see my vision.

CRESCENDO but something like Yuki Yuna is a Hero which i TOTALLY forced you to watch

the heros are the members of the “hero club” or some sort of idolistic club and they go around and sing and dance for everyone else but the main premise of the club is to find sacrifices worthy for “god”—whoever that may be. So when Crescendo’s first mission begins, they freak out.

Kiyama, although excited, has never been beyond this side of the world. Where the gods lay. His flower may be something like… a sunflower, and his weapon being a polaram or breakers or something like that. something with high mobility.

Miharu is given something like. a daisy maybe? (wasnt able to find anything on masking) and their weapon is maybe something defense-related.

Kirina’s flower is a white lily. Since Kirina expresses herself through dance her weapon might be something like a fan or some sort of leg brace based on kicking

Sato’s flower is a lilac, since Sato (i think) values family and close bonds. maybe their weapon is something based on chanting and bringing things together— like the vines itsuki has

Katsu’s flower is a Strelitzia since they symbolize a free spirit. Maybe Katsu’s weapon is a straight up electric guitar or a gun of some sorr

Shion’s flower is a white rose, my gay ass loves to focus on shion’s split between her unit and crescendo, since she can only focus on one after the events of ykyk.

Anyways with these, this idol group is tasked with the duty of protecting the world against the “Vertexes” or the wrath of the gods against humanity.

i think kiyama (or katsu) should have gauntlets. they deserve to punch people. altho an entire electric guitar is SICKKK anyway kiyama probably would have Some armor (probably leather) on his upper body bc . hes gonna be in the middle of all these weapons ykno. he needs to be at least somewhat flexible and light on his feet right? hm. i dunno . kiyama and katsu are difficult to think about for this. katsu definitely has some lightning effects going on. That will stay.

heheh ok time for kiri~~ she definitely has high mobility!! aaa implementing her dancing ability into her fighting style!!!!! i think shed try to learn how to fight using a halberd at first but she finds it awkward to move around with and then she (or sm1 else helps) comes up with the idea to do what shes used to: dancing. if shes so used to moving gracefully without holding heavy things then why doesnt she just. do that ? !!!! anyway im putting her hair into a high ponytail as we speak. although im having difficulty in imagining her in armor. ill work on that.

Mankai Gauges in Yuuna Yuuki wa Yuusha de Aru

Spoilers for Yuuna Yuuki wa Yuusha de Aru, Washio Sumi wa Yuusha de Aru, Sonoko After, the second YuYuYu season, and maybe a little more?

I believe all of the Mankai Gauges may have a deeper meaning in where they are placed. They may be able to bring some insight into the characters, or just some cool details that most don’t notice on their first second or even third watch (I noticed it on my fourth watch). I’m only going to do the YuYuYu and WaSuYu characters right now because I haven't finished the light novels or second or third season yet.

Yuuki Yuuna

The placement of Yuuna’s Mankai Gauge is on her right fist. It is important to differentiate right from left because they can have very different meanings. Left hands are often associated with bad luck, and the inverse is true for right hands. One thing to note is that hands can also symbolize marriage, which as we know from season two Yuuna, that’s pretty important. Although marriage bands or rings are more commonly worn on the left hand in Japan, this is because of an old superstition that there is a vein in your left hand that leads directly to your heart. This may then imply that there was no “heart” or “love” in the marriage because it was simply to save her friends and not out of true love. 

    Another possible reason for the gauge being on her hand is because she is the one guiding the story. She moves the story forward and has in character motivations of why she does so. She is the one that keeps the team moving forward, she brings hope. 

    You could also say she “holds” the most potential, but I believe that is a stretch. 

Washio Sumi/Tougou Mimori

Yes, I know, it’s her boob. There was definitely fan service involved in this one. I would like to believe that it means something more than that though. While it being on her boob is definitely fan service, there's also the aspect that it represents femininity. Tougou is known throughout the series for being the most feminine girl on both of her teams, she is described as having “traditional beauty.” She is also incredibly mature compared to the rest of the group, this is especially apparent in the first few episodes of WaSuYu where she is quite stiff and formal. 

We can also take the placement of her gauge as being over the heart because it is on the right side of her chest where the heart is. Tougou is the heart of the group in many ways. She is one of the most - if not the most - emotional girls on the team. At least in YuYuYu she’s the emotional one, in WaSuYu she is actually the most reserved, which is quite an interesting parallel. She also lets her heart drive her. While she is a logic based person, constantly in search of knowledge and tends to take a technical approach to things, this is shown to be only a facade. Her emotions are what motivate her biggest choices in the story. During the first fight, she is afraid and immediately assumes she can’t fight because she feels incapable. She goes to extremes because of her desire to know the truth. Her biggest decision in season one: breaking the Shinjyuu-Sama’s barrier is driven by her love for Yuuna and everyone else on the team who’s had to suffer. 

Inubouzaki Fuu

    There were no good pictures of her mankai gauge on her person, so I just went with her transformation screen. 

    Fuu’s gauge is on her left thigh, which is quite fitting for her character. Thighs can often symbolize strength and power, which Fuu is full of, her catchphrase even being “Girl Power” and several variations of that. Thighs can also mean support, Fuu is the leader of the team, and could be considered the one supporting or carrying the group. Not to mention she’s been taking care of Itsuki for many years, and is shown literally carrying her in a flashback. Fuu emotionally supports the group and guides them through hard times. It also shows how she paved the path for the other heroes, walking first to show them the ropes and supporting them through this new endeavor.

Inubouzaki Itsuki

    Itsuki’s Mankai Gauge is located on her back between her two shoulder blades. This has many implications. The main one that comes to mind is how it is a spot of vulnerability, and Itsuki is definitely the most vulnerable of the group. Not only is she the youngest, but she is also quite sensitive and shy, making it easy for her to be hurt and vulnerable. She often recounts how Fuu protects her, showing that Fuu also thinks of Itsuki as more vulnerable than herself. 

    Another thing to be noted is the idea of “having someone’s back.” It is quite obvious throughout the series that Itsuki has Fuu’s back and always has. She supports her big sister through anything and is constantly there for her. 

    The Gauge is also incredibly close to the throat, which is representative of the ability to speak. Knowing of Itsuki’s arc and her dreams of singing and losing her voice because of going Mankai, this is quite significant. Since the gauge is behind the throat it could symbolize that losing her voice was an unknown betrayal and attack. Not only did it destroy her chances of pursuing her dream, but it was a betrayal of trust from the Shinjyuu-Sama and the Taisha. 

    The back also can represent the past. Itsuki spends a lot of time reflecting on the past, probably the most time aside from Tougou. She often recalls events with her and her big sister, and she uses her past to push her forward, motivating herself to not always be behind Fuu but beside her. Fuu also says that Itsuki is “in front” of her, how Itsuki has surpassed Fuu, the sign on her back could then symbolize her growth from looking at Fuu’s back and being behind her to the reverse.

Miyoshi Karin

    Karin’s Mankai Gauge is located on her left shoulder. Karin in a certain aspect is the most reliable of the group, or at least she becomes the most reliable throughout the story. She initially doesn’t want to be a part of the Hero Club or have anything to do with them but overtime, she is the one who sacrifices the most when Yuuna can’t transform. She is most knowledgeable of battle tactics, and by far the most trained. This shows her to be reliable in battle and that can be interpreted as a shoulder to rely on, and in some circumstances (season two comes to mind) a shoulder to cry on.

Nogi Sonoko

    Sonoko’s Mankai Gauge is on her stomach, more specifically the belly button area. I was a bit confused at first, aside from Sonoko going with her gut feelings, I was not sure how this related to her in any other ways. Then I looked into the chakra placement, which explains a lot. Her Mankai Gauge is in the place of the Sacral Chakra, the second chakra on ones body. It is connected to creativity and sensuality, which sounds a lot like Sonoko. Focusing on your Sacral Chakra is also said to enhance intuition, Sonoko is known throughout the series for having great intuition, despite her ditziness. Another really interesting feature is that Sonoko’s Mankai Gauge is associated with Lotus flowers, the same flower often used to symbolize the Sacral Chakra. 

    That’s all I have for now, I may write more about this as I go through the series, please no spoilers for anything in the end of the second season or the third season as I have not yet watched them and have done an okay job avoiding spoilers so far. Let me know your thoughts, this is just a cool theory of mine and is based mostly on a western perspective, so I’m sure there’s some things I’ve missed.

Welp, day 2 took longer than planned but I got a bit busy and I forgot how complex Fuu’s design was! Lol ABOUT THIS ENTRY: Looking back, there were tonnes of eligible entries for the sword spot! Swords are common weapons for magical girls but I was tied between two. After much mulling I decided to go with Fuu from Yuki Yuna is a Hero because Fuu is amazing! Why? Well first of all, how many magical girls do you know that fight with a broad sword?! A weapon typically given to Goliath like characters! Secondly, for the majority of the series (spoilers) she does it with one eye! And third, she’s one of the few magical girls who isn’t pink or the main character and is the leader of her team, and a good one at that!
