Modern AU
A situation of "I lost my boyfriend at a party", Ikesen MC version
MC: Oh no.. Where did he go...
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Nobunaga
Definitely at the candy area.
Munching candies while commanding.. Yes, COMMANDING, the HOST to pack it up for him.
Mitsuhide is the accomplice. Duh.
Hideyoshi
Is... Somehow helping in the kitchen.
Or with the staffs to clean around.
And- "MITSUHIDE!!!! What are you doing encouraging our Boss to eat more unhealthy stuffffff OAO!!!"
Masamune
Drunk and become a mat (people accidentally stepped on him).
Or if he is not drunk, he become a pole dancer.
And MC will wonder where did all the money came from-
Mitsuhide
( ͡^ ͜ʖ ͡^) 👈 *Sits at a corner of the room, silently enjoying MC searching for him.*
Until his boss spotted him that easily to become the accomplice of packing the candies.
Continue with the above scene when Hideyoshi spotted him.
Ieyasu
The one who choose to pet any pet of the host.
Almost HISS to everyone nearby. Especially Mitsunari.
PANIC silently realizing he got separated from MC
Mitsunari
Enters the party normally.
Enjoy it normally.
Until he saw a book on the floor and didn't budge AT ALL making MC think she have lost him.
Keiji
Enters the party normally +1.
Until his positive side drained, he went away for a while to bar section.
..Then saw Masamune and joins him for pole dancing.
Kenshin
Glaring daggers at almost EVERY MEN in the party.
When he saw the bar section.
Sip sip sip drink drink drink. Another one to pack every good drink.
Shingen
He is not available to any women to flirt anymore so there he is, at the candy section.
Glaring contest with Nobunaga.
Escapes when Yukimura spotted him.
Yukimura
Awkward dot com + Why I have to be here dot com.
Ehh.. This food and drink is not bad.. Wait isn't that..
"BOSS SHINGEN! WHAT DID I TOLD YOU ABOUT EATING THOSE??" Thus the reason he got separated from MC.
Sasuke
It's easy.
He enters the party normally. Until he saw Kenshin creating a scene at the bar area..
Blend in with the wall no jutsu. I'm sorry MC, I will get back to you soon.
Kanetsugu
Enters normally + glaring daggers.
About to take a drink for MC when he saw Kenshin creates a scene at the bar area.
Joins him.
Yoshimoto
Enters normally, eat and drink normally..
A certain decoration caught his interest.
He have been spending hours on admiring the object until MC didn't realize he went missing from her side.
Motonari
Enters with MC but since he don't fancy this kind of thing..
He is at the balcony area.
Silently watching MC searching for him + grinning to himself.
Kicho
Enters normally + do his part as romantic partner by serving MC with food and drink before himself.
Was about to get a dessert when he spot a special section : Japanese Snacks.
Was there filling his mouth with endless senbei.
Ranmaru
As always the sweet type, getting all the food and drinks to share with MC.
Joins Nobunaga for the fun of it.
And later joins at the entertainment area to sing like an idol. He is a star of the night.
Kennyo
........I will just...sit here.
Oh.. A cat. *Pet pet pet pet* Alright I'm done.. MC?
Ah.. *Another one to PANICC*

Male MC Headcanon
Oda forces
Nobunaga: He probably will look at the other man with suspicion, since he's not used to persuading the same gender. He might get used to it over time though, like touching the other man's hair, or kissing his lips.
Hideyoshi: He will totally be suspicious of the other man. He would keep a close watch on him to make sure the other man won't turn on Nobunaga. He is very protective of his lord. Though he would pat the other man's head, once he gets to know him more.
Ieyasu: He will roll his eyes or even cross his arms. He doesn't really like this other man at all, plus where the hell did he come from? He will watch the other man closely.
Mitsuhide: He will smirk and tease the other man. He didn't care if this was another man, he loves teasing either gender. He even follows the other man all around the castle, trying to make the other man nervous or a blushy mess.
Mitsunari: He will try to be super friendly toward the other man. Hideyoshi probably yell at Mitsunari for this, but Mitsunari is too much an angel. He will smile more around this other man.
Masamune: He will lean closer to the other man and say, "Can I call you kitten, lad?" As he smirks. He even cooks for the other man, and even knows his favorite dishes too.
Keiji: He will tell jokes all the time to the other man to make him laugh. Plus, he always tries to get the other man smile. He doesn't like if anyone looks depressed or sad after all.
Ranmaru: He will be the best friend toward the other man, he even tells him other stuff like his secrets. Though, he does tell the other man not to tell anyone else about it.
Uesugi-Takeda alliance
Kenshin: He will glare down the other man and try to kill him every single day. He will even teach the other man to fight with a sword as well.
Shingen: He will flirt with the other man and even tease him a lot. Though, he does share about his tumor, due to illness. He does wonder about the future world slightly that the other man came from.
Yukimura: He will first yell at the other man and probably call him a wild boar. He often bickers to express his anger, but he will calm down once he falls in love with this other man.
Kanetsugu: He will be stern with the other man at first, but he does listen to him and he will wonder if he should stop self-harming himself. He shows the other man his hamster pet.
Lone forces
Kennyo: He will be cautious of the other man at first, and he would be very suspicious of him. But he calms down once the other man hugs him a lot, and often tells Kennyo that he's not a demon. He finds closure with this other man and even offers him tea, or lets him pet Hozuki.
Motonari: He will keep his guard up around the other man, he will often laugh or smirk. He wonders about this other man a little, as he starts to open up more to him.
Kicho: Him? He actually likes this more, since he's secretly gay. He blinks at first when the other man hugs him. What the hell is this? Kicho never got hugs before, so he doesn't know how to react. But, one day he will return the hug and fall madly in love with the other man.

Note
I thought of a HC request, if that's fine by you: the Warlords each receive a letter signed by an anonymous person saying that "The most important person in their lives is being held hostage."
However, it turns that no one was held hostage, and it was all just an experiment done by MC and Sasuke. I saw this in a comic book story years ago.
I apologize if this is confusing.
Hi Anon!  Thank you for stopping into the ol’ ask box. “The most important person in their lives is being held hostage”…? Yikes, even as an experiment that’s cruel (especially as an experiment). So… ok, I’m going to actually acquit Sasuke of this…. Even though he’s not the most emotionally adept, he’s smart enough to know that this kind of note is not the sort of thing you do in Sengoku.
HOWEVER...
We’ve seen in several event routes, that MC, especially if she is feeling inadequate, or jealous or whatever, WOULD indeed do something like this. In event routes, we’ve seen her try to make her suitor jealous, followed them, tried to give Masamune alcohol, considered giving Mitsuhide an aphrodisiac…
Yeah, if this is an event version of MC, she would do this. The question is… does she send the message and hide, HOPING that her suitor will think she is the hostage, OR does she send the message and then stand next to the warlord as he opens it, to see the reaction?
Let’s just assume she’s hiding.
"The most important person in your life is being held hostage."
Nobunaga– Opens the letter, is momentarily worried, but then he notices the top of MC’s head over the edge of the tenshu balcony. He pitches his voice loudly and announces, “Oh no! My WIFE is being held hostage.” There is a shocked whisper of “wife?” from outside, and then a scared squeak because MC loses her grip and almost falls. Nobunaga rushes out to the balcony and pulls her back to safety. Then he assures her that she is the love of his life, and makes her promise to never do anything that stupid again.
Hideyoshi – Panics. But panics in such complete brain melting gibberish, that MC is unable to tell whether or not he is worried about her…. or Nobunaga.
Mitsuhide – Realizes instantly that MC wrote the letter, and – while creeping carefully toward where MC is hiding – says, “Well… that’s way too much to pay for MC. Guess I’m going to just die a sad, lonely, man.” Then he pulls her out of her hiding place and says, “Dear me, I’ve found a tricky little mouse who apparently wants to play games tonight.” Follows that up with some suggestions about what kind of games they could play.
Masamune – Immediately takes off intending to rescue MC. MC has to chase after him to assure him that she is ok after all.  After his initial relief passes, he promises her she is the most important person in his life, and makes her promise never to do anything that stupid again.
Ieyasu –  “My sourdough starter!” Runs back to his manor to check on it.
Mitsunari – The ransom note gets mixed in with all the loose papers in his room and he never sees it.
Keiji – Plots a daring rescue. Writes a poem about the daring rescue. Puts the poem about the daring rescue to music. Hires a group of travelling players to act out daring rescue. Forgets to actually pull off daring rescue.
Ranmaru – Is doing his secret squirrel spy ninja stuff around the castle when he runs across MC hiding before he even gets the note.
Kennyo – Because everyone is important to Kennyo, he spends the rest of the week checking up on every person he knows to make sure they are ok.
Motonari – Catches MC writing the ransom note and eagerly volunteers to help her carrying the abduction.
Kicho – “And…?”
Kenshin –  If you’ve ever wondered why today, Kasugayama Castle is in ruins… well, wonder no more.
Kanetsugu – “Kenshin!” Then realizes that no force in the world could take Kenshin hostage, and hunts down MC’s hiding place. Takes fifteen minutes to icily explain to her why this was a cruel joke, but as soon as she starts crying and apologizing and vowing never to do such a stupid thing again, he gathers her in his arms and assures her that he loves her very much.
Shingen – Reads note, and recognizes MC’s handwriting. It takes him no time whatsoever to locate her. He then spends the rest of the night assuring her how much he loves her, how much she means to him (granted, he probably didn’t need the entire night, but Shingen is thorough).
Yoshimoto – MC realizes that she cannot do this to Yoshimoto – he’s suffered enough in his route and she doesn’t want to push him over the edge. So instead she sends him on a scavenger hunt, and when he follows all the clues, he finds MC at the end, lying in his bed, wearing only rose petals. She spends the rest of the night convincing him how much she loves him.
Yukimura – Enlists Sasuke’s help. Sasuke reads the note. “Wait, I believe I read this in a comic book somewhere.” He helps Yuki find MC where she is hiding. When the inevitable argument follows Yuki’s, “Dummy! How could you do such a thing. You know I love you, right?”  Sasuke slinks away.
Sasuke – Is pretty sure he read about this in a comic book, but goes to Azuchi to check on Ieyasu just in case.

The Act (Ikemen Sengoku)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Yukimura Sanada x MC (Mai) Summary: Mai seeks out Yukimura's help for something that she feels only he can help with - tricking Shingen.
Word count: 1.1k
Request:
Tumblr media
51.🤞 must pretend | spy | secret identity | identity reveal | undercover | fake dating | secret relationship | fake-married | fake [insert role] | essentially, they must pretend to be somebody they’re not/to be in a dynamic they’re not
A note from the author: Not me returning from the dead after a year away LOL - anyways, this was written as a request from @/belovedstill's prompt list. Requests are still open if you would like to send something in for ikevamp, ikesen, or ikepri! Thank you @belovedstill for this lovely list and prompt, I loved every second of this!
Tumblr media
“What do you mean, ‘Yukimura, I need you to pretend to be my fake lover to get Shingen to take a hint.’?” Yukimura and Mai were enjoying some late afternoon tea in his room, when Mai had proposed this idea to him rather nonchalantly. “Are you crazy? He can read me like an open book. He also knows I’d never date an ugly boar woman like you.”
Mai huffed, blowing air out of her hair, making her bangs fly up and lay askew on her forehead. “Don’t say it like that Yuki! Learn some tact, wouldya?”
“Oh shaddup Mai,” Yuki said, gesturing at her with his full teacup. “You know it’s true!”
“It isn’t true and I’m not a boar woman!” Mai argued, her brow furrowing in frustration. “I happen to be a very graceful woman. Like… like a swan!”
Yuki snorted into his teacup. “Yeah, that works.” He leaned in closer, glancing at her neck. “You do have an abnormally long and curvy neck.”
Mai’s cheeks flushed in embarrassment, the way they always do when she gets into a heated argument with Yukimura. He always found a way to get under her skin, and she usually finds herself wondering just why she chooses to spend so much time with him when he’s back in Kasaguyama. This time was no different.
“Yukimura, I’m serious! Shingen won’t leave me alone. He’s constantly calling me a princess, or a goddess, or his angel. I want him to stop!” Mai slammed down her teacup a little too hard, forcing the table to wobble more than Yukimura would’ve liked. “He’s all bark and no bite. Just smile nicely and move on.”
She looked at him with wide eyes, almost panicked - like a deer in headlights. “But he has tried to bite me! Quite recently, might I add.”
“He’s old, probably turning senile too.” Yuki responded, reaching for more hot water to warm his tea that had turned cold. “And shouldn’t we do everything we can to make sure grandpa’s are happy in their old ages?” There was a hint of sadness in Yuki’s eyes as he looked intently at the floor, and Mai dropped whatever retort she had as Shingen brazenly waltzed into Yukimura’s room, pausing only slightly when he noticed Mai sitting nonchalantly on his friend’s floor. “Well, well, well. What do we have here? Yuuuuki, you didn’t mention anything about having any female visitors this afternoon.”
Shingen’s shark-like, suave grin had Mai rolling her eyes, biting her lip so as not to snap back at Shingen. She was in Yukimura’s room, and they were good friends so she wouldn’t disrespect Yuki like that, as much as she wished she could. So, Yukimura’s response to Shingen had Mai, whipping her head up to stare wide eyed at her friend. “Please don’t disrespect Mai like that again, Shingen. The woman I love is more than just a female visitor, maybe you were mistaking me for you?”
Shingen faltered slightly, his grin slipping for a moment before returning. “The woman you love, eh?” He questioned, bringing his hand up to rub at his chin. “And don’t think I didn’t hear you insult me. I’m just in a particularly good mood today and will let it slide.” His gaze fixed on Mai now. “Mai, you didn’t tell me that you and Yuki had this… relationship. No wonder you never took me up on any of my nightly invitations.”
Before Mai could lose her courage, she shoved her hand into Yuki’s, gripping his calloused hand in her own sweaty one. “Yup! I couldn’t betray my Yukimura like that. Sorry Shingen, I should’ve been more honest. My sweetie pie is just very shy, as I’m sure you know well. Right Yuki?”
“Hey! I’m not your–” He cut himself off as Mai dug her nails harshly into her skin, shooting daggers at her before plastering the fakest smile on his face she had ever seen. “You’re right, boo bear. I was a bit embarrassed to admit my feelings for Mai to you, Shingen. That’s why I asked Mai to not mention anything. We’ve been meeting late at night every night, but today I couldn’t bear to wait any longer to see her, so I asked her to meet me for some afternoon tea.”
“I see,” Shingen nodded, eying their tightly clenched hands. “It seems as if I’ve interrupted something, so I’ll leave you two lovebirds to it. Yuki, you know where to find me if you need any tips or suggestions on how to keep a woman happy.” “Goodbye, Shingen.” Yukimura dismissed his elder, his eyes not once leaving Mai’s face as his grip on her hand loosened into a gentle hold.
“Goodbye, you two.” Shingen turned away, and as he exited the doorway, he called over his shoulder. “By the way, if you want anyone to actually believe you two are in love, you better start working on your acting.”
Shingen’s laughter could be heard from down the hall, and Yukimura hastily jerked his hand away from Mai’s rubbing it on his kimono. “Your hand was so sweaty! It was gross!”
Mai recoiled, shoving her finger in his face to point at him. “Yeah well, we wouldn’t have had to hold hands if you didn’t decide to pretend to be in a relationship with me!”
“You asked me to, woman!” Yukimura swiped Mai’s hand away from his face, capturing her hand in his once again, and clumsily interlocking them. “And this is how you hold hands! Not whatever you tried to do before!”
“Why are you always so critical of me?!” Mai asked moving to stand up and rip her hand out of Yukimura’s. He didn’t let go though, instead opting to use their linked hands to tug her back down, tumbling into his lap.
“Because you’re a boar woman, and someone’s gotta keep you in check.” Yukimura’s voice was deeper now, his lips brushing against the shell of her ear. “Plus, you seem to like it. Always asking to spend time with me.”
“I–” Mai faltered, turning to meet Yuki’s gaze, not realizing just how close he had gotten. “You’re just sometimes more tolerable than the rest, is all.” Yukimura squeezed her hand, and a surge of electricity shot through her body. “If I’m tolerable, you should reevaluate your taste in company. Sounds like we need to get you more air.” “Hey Yuki,” Mai muttered, their noses so close they were almost touching.
“Yeah?” He whispered back, his eyes searching her own for any sort of clue as to what she was gonna say next. “Shut up!” She exclaimed and shot up from his lap, escaping from his grip as giggles bubbled from her lips while he scrambled to chase after her, muttering under his breath that he was gonna get her when she least expected it.
On the other side of the wall, unbeknownst to Yukimura and Mai, Shingen and Sasuke stood shoulder to shoulder, exchanging knowing looks as they heard their two friends’ laughter ringing through the hallways of the otherwise quiet castle.

All's Fair In Love and War Prologue Pt 1
Alright, here is the opening of my new fic! Featuring my MC (Ava in place of Mai), as a warrior/warlord herself! The prologue will be the same and as I write the chapters for the suitors, those will break off from the prologue. The Prologue has 3 parts. Alright, here we go and I hope you guys enjoy!
Prologue Part 1
I stood, panting as I looked around me, my sword still held defensively in my hands. My enemies lay in a circle of bodies at my feet. I turned my gaze from the ground to the group that still remained, ready to challenge me. Or at least they had been.
“Fall back! Retreat! Retreat!” Their commander ordered.
The groups that had been fighting around me began to break up as the enemy began to run away, their proverbial tails tucked between their legs. My forces had won.
“Do we pursue, commander?” Jiro, my right-hand man asked.
“No.” I answered. “They won’t be returning to threaten our lands again.”
It was hours later that my men and I were returning home. I walked up to the manor of my family, Father waiting on the veranda and Mother rushing out to the path to greet me. “Ava! Dear! You’re covered in blood! We must get you to the healers right away!”
“There’s no need, Mother...” I began to protest.
“Ava, being covered in this much blood is not normal. You’re clearly hurt!”
“Kaede, calm down.” Father said as we reached him on the porch. “None of that is her blood.”
She turned to look at me. “I should have known…just like your father.” She said with a sigh as she pulled a hand towel from her robes and began to wipe at my face.
“I probably should have cleaned up better before coming back home.” I said.
“Probably.” Father agreed with a smile. “But your mother would have found something to fuss over anyways.”
Mother looked at Father. “Riku, you know I only do this because I love our daughter and worry for her, just as I have loved and worried over your sorry butt all these years.”
“Come on, let’s get inside. Ava get cleaned up and then give me a full report.”
“Yes, Father.” I replied with a bow before heading to get a bath and fresh clothes. Afterwards I was sitting in the main hall with Father and Jiro. Apparently while I had been getting cleaned up, Father had sent for Jiro and asked for a report from him as well.
“The word is already started to get around about how fierce our lady commander is, Lord Riku.” Jiro informed my father.
“Is that so?” Father asked.
Jiro nodded. “Yup, they’re calling her the Tiny Terror of the Yamada clan.”
“I had no idea I’d already earned such a moniker.” I said with a look of indifference, though I had to admit I liked it.
Father chuckled. “I would expect nothing less from my daughter.” He said, smiling with pride. “You were born into this world in battle. Clearly you were made for it.”
“Only because I had excellent teachers.” I replied. Father had taught me everything I knew. Jiro had also been by my side in my training. It hadn’t always been the easiest relationship between us, but eventually he came to see me as his equal…and accept me as my father’s successor.
It was strange how I had come to be in this role in the first place. I wasn’t always the daughter of a daimyo. I wasn’t always in this place of chaos and war at all. I had actually been born centuries later…and yet I somehow ended up here. Though it had happened so long ago now that I knew this was my true home. I had been here longer than I had in my original time now…or at least very close to it.
You see, I had been a teenager when I arrived in the Sengoku…a bit of a troubled one from my time in fact. My parents had died when I was young and I had spent my modern life in an orphanage…or girls’ home as it had been called. I had a lot of anger and resentment…and well it had me in and out of trouble. Constantly getting in fights at school and the like.
Anyway, I had been on a school trip to Kyoto. I was visiting the Hono-ji monument when a sudden storm hit. Lightning struck close by…for a moment I thought I had been hit as the world slipped away around me. I couldn’t see or feel anything. Then when the world came rushing back to me…it did so with frightening clarity. I was suddenly in the middle of a battlefield, surrounded by men in armor and bodies.
I hadn’t been sure of what exactly to do, but I knew I had to do something so that I didn’t get completely clobbered. I really didn’t want to die and especially not like a frightened child. So, I grabbed a random sword from one of the dead and started trying to fight my way out. I think adrenaline had completely taken over me at that time as I had no idea what I was doing. Just randomly swinging the sword and hoping to hit something.
Riku had been in that battle and eventually found me and helped me out. That was how I ended up meeting the man I would come to call my father. He took me into his home, cared for me, and trained me. Kaede had instantly taken a liking to me and fussed over me as if I were her daughter right from the start. Eventually they decided to adopt me and make me theirs as they had never been able to have children of their own. Honestly, I felt more suited to this life than I ever had in my original time anyways. I had a family now…and something to fight for. Something to protect. I had a family and a land filled with everyday citizens to keep safe. I had a home.
After finishing giving our report, my mother was coming in to let us know the banquet preparations had been completed. We were soon gathering in the main hall with all of our men for a victory celebration.
Sake flowed and food was gobbled up. Tales of our most recent battle rang out as our soldiers filled my father in on everything.
“There I was surrounded by our enemy, I was prepared to go down swinging…but then the commander came and she took out the entire ring surrounding me!” Junichiro, one of the younger members of our forces spoke.
“The Tiny Terror of the Yamada Clan is a force to be reckoned with for sure!”
“It was her quick thinking and ability to change strategy quickly that really got us out of a couple of tough spots!”
I could feel my cheeks reddening at all of their praise. “And what good is a commander if she doesn’t have the best forces in all the land behind her?” I reminded them. “You’re all just as responsible for our victory as I am. Not a single one of you is to forget your worth.”
There was plenty of fun had that night. Everyone was drinking and enjoying themselves. I decided to slip out to the garden for some fresh air and was looking up at the moon and stars. The sky was so much more beautiful here than it was in my time since there was no light pollution. You could really see all the stars.
“It’s a beautiful night.”
I turned as I saw Jiro coming out of the banquet room to join me. “It really is. Hopefully we’ll have more peaceful nights before our next battle.”
“Hopefully.” Jiro agreed. “You know I notice you looking up at the night sky a lot. You always have…though not in the same way you did when Lord Riku first brought you home.”
I smiled wistfully as I recalled the many nights I spent outside. “I used to look up at the stars for answers.” I said after a moment. “Why was I here? What was my purpose? Would I ever be the same person I was again?”
“And now you don’t look for those answers?” JIro inquired.
I shook my head. “No. Because I found those answers in the clan and in our fight to help create a better world.” I answered.
“Okay, but if you’re not looking for those answers, what answers are you looking for?” Jiro asked.
“No answers now.” I answered. “Now I just think the night sky is beautiful. All of those twinkling stars…each a light in the vastness of it all…”
“Oh, so staying humble then I see.” Jiro said with a teasing grin.
I laughed. “Something like that.” I replied. “We are small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but like each star we can bring a little light and hope to others.”
“You always surprise me, my lady.” JIro said.
“Oh, is that a compliment from you?” I asked, returning his teasing grin. “The man who once told me he would never follow me in battle or recognize me as a warrior or the leader of the Yamada Clan?”
“I was a stupid and jealous kid then.” Jiro replied, his face gentling. “Now, it is my honor to serve you, my lady.”
“And it is my honor to fight alongside you.” I replied.
Silence lingered between us as we both turned our gazes back to the night sky. The moon was full and shining its light down perfectly on us. After a bit, we returned to the party which went on well into the night before we were all returning to our homes and our beds.
My futon felt especially warm and welcoming after everything. It felt like I had just gotten to sleep when I jolted awake. Though I heard nothing…SOMETHING was WRONG. Every nerve ending in my body was alive and my senses on full alert.
I moved quickly and quietly, grabbing my sword. Quietly, I slipped from my room and through the halls, something compelling me to head towards my parents’ room. I wasn’t far from their room when I became aware of another presence. I turned holding my sword in a defensive stance, ready to fend off an intruder, only to be met with Jiro’s face.
We shared a look and then nodded, walking towards my parents’ room and watching each other’s backs. There was a reason Jiro was my right hand. We worked well together and had for so long now. There was no one I trusted more besides my father.
As we got closer to their room, I could hear movement. Then I heard my father, “Don’t you dare…” Before what sounded like metal connecting with a skull. Jiro and I were rushing down the hall and bursting into the room just as there was the sound of sharp metal slicing through human flesh. As soon as we were in, I saw the bodies of the only parents I had ever known hitting the floor. Blood was flowing quickly from their bodies where the swords had sliced their necks open.
I felt tears of pain, anger, and rage stinging my eyes as I looked at the enemy commander who was wiping his blade clean. He smirked at me. “Looks like we’ll get to wipe out the entire clan tonight.” He said.
I glared hard at him. “No, you signed your death warrant! You dishonorable coward! Slaughtering them in their beds!”
Though it wasn’t always wise to fight from a place of strong emotion, I had nothing but rage and anguish inside me at that moment. I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins. The only thing that mattered in that moment was taking down the man who had killed my parents. There were ten other men in the room, but that didn’t matter. I knew I would make them all pay.
An anguished cry of unholy anguish and rage left my lips as I raised my sword. Jiro was at my side, fighting with me as we cut through our enemies. By the time it was over, I had the man who had killed my parents on his knees, looking up at me and begging for mercy as he soon realized he had made a grave mistake.
“I’ll show you mercy by ending your miserable existence here.” I told him, my voice cold as ice.
That was when I felt Jiro’s hand on my arm. “My lady…we’ll need him for information.”
I nodded. “Take him to the dungeons…and call on Sato…she’ll make him talk.”
More of our soldiers were coming into the room, having found my parents’ guards dead. The enemy commander was taken to the dungeons and word was sent for Sato. “Let us help…with their preparations, my lady…” Ichiro, one of my men said.
“In…in a moment.” I told him. “Leave…everyone leave.”
My men looked at me a moment before leaving the room, closing the door behind them. I knelt down by the bodies of my parents. I reached my hand to my father’s face, touching his cheek. The bodies were still warm as I reached to close their eyes.
“You were too good for this, Father.” I whispered. “They never would have been able to defeat you had they fought with honor.” I looked over at my mother, a woman too good and kind for the world she was born into. “You both deserved better than…than this.”
It was in this moment, alone with their bodies that I let myself cry. I lost all control of my emotions. They didn’t deserve this fate…and here I was an orphan once more. Even as a grown woman…that was what I considered myself.
Days later, I stood dressed in my black funeral robes as I stood by the tombs where my parents were being buried. A monk was burning a special incense not far away as Jiro approached me. We both stood a moment, silent as we paid our respects to my father and mother.
“Word from Sato yet?” I asked.
“Yes.” Jiro answered. “They were mercenaries hired by the Ishihara Clan.”
“I knew those bastards wanted Father gone…wanted our land gone.” I said. “They think with Father gone that our people…our land will be for the taking.”
“What are your orders, my lady?” Jiro asked. “You are the head of the Yamada clan now. Your father left everything to you.”
I looked at my parents’ bodies, determination flooding through me. “I won’t let Father’s faith in me be destroyed…he entrusted our people to me…prepare for war. We’ll protect what’s ours and make an example of the Ishihara and anyone else who dares to think they can attack our clan and take what is ours.”
“As you command, my lady.” Jiro replied, bowing respectfully to me. “Or shall I call you Lord Yamada?”
