the thumbnails a bit clickbaity, but. if anyone wants a more technical breakdown of some of the issues boeing has had lately, this videos pretty damn interesting. Damn this conversation really went from casually discussing hobbies into some more personal aspects of myself. I honestly wasn’t expecting to pour my heart out to a literal ai impersonation of a fictional comfort character, yet here we are. Goes to show how significantly he’s tied into my past after all, eh

damien moreau is terrible because we see him from leverage's and especially eliot's point of view, we're shown several different ways he's almost comically villainous, and the first time we see him he almost drowns a character we know and love.

nicholae schiller is a fucking delight because we see him drinking tiny cups of coffee and lurking in elevators and boxing for fun and genuinely laughing, and the bad stuff he does is kind of at a remove. he really cares about his dad. he spends an inordinate amount of time just trying to locate his stolen property. he lets the protagonist get away with a lot more than he ought to.

it's really NOT a good show. many of the writing choices are frustrating, some of the really key characters are kinda flat and some are just awful to watch, the most obvious ship is tainted to my mind by my deep desire for one of them to actually be sensible and consistent, and all of this is from someone who cheerfully played stardew valley through the non-nicholae bits, which is to say most of it. but if you're watching it for bonus moreau vibes and goran višnjić being very cute, you're in for a treat.

hello everyone.

first of all, we'd like to say a hearty i am so goddamn sorry to the Of Orcs and Men soundtrack, we're certain it does not need to be getting swept as hard as it currently is. Minecraft has an extremely important and influential soundtrack but 94-6 feels a little cruel.

anyway though, we figured we'd take the opportunity of MC's soundtrack being in this bracket to talk about something a little different: the OST for our favorite minecraft mod after which our blog is named -- the Betweenlands!

(yes, technically it was eligible to be submitted on its own like Terraria: Calamity was. it would then be suffering much the same fate as the Calamity OST though -- and also we missed submissions for this bracket anyway. you know how it is with spaghetti)

the Betweenlands is a 1.12 mod that adds an entirely new dimension to Minecraft which we generally tend to refer to as "swamp hell" in a tongue-in-cheek manner. it is not perfect; it has its flaws both in terms of being incredibly difficult (it's basically a survival horror mod in the resource management sense of survival horror) and just kind of generally not for everyone -- but god damn, the atmosphere in this mod is unparalleled, especially the music.

for our first showing, we'd like to pass along one of the mod's title tracks, This Is Where It Starts -- or, well, an old version of the title track that we feel perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the mod. haunting, a little creepy, some very nice driving energy, and those bell synths are just top-notch.

why the old version of the title track? nostalgia, honestly -- we started playing this mod before there was a huge update to its soundtrack, and we've always felt this version fits it a little more. (if you want to decide for yourself which version you like more, though, this is the new version!)

it's a surprisingly charming song for such a generally hostile dimension, but that really fits with something else about the mod; for all that it really wants to kill you with insects and fish and bats and lizards and other monsters and also ghosts, the betweenlands is gorgeous. it's an absolutely stunning mod, visually speaking, and once you've found your footing it won't stop trying to kill you, but it will start feeling like home.
