not to make a completely on brand post but I bought this graphic novel as a birthday gift to myself and overall I am super pleased with it! I think early Mormonism works really well as a graphic story and I like the artist’s style overall, I think it was artistically and dramatically compelling and pretty historically accurate/fair (a couple minor quibbles and one major issue I had with it but overall pretty good)

some of my favorite/particularly interesting/compelling/distinctive pages!

#fwiw my minor quibbles were that Brigham Young’s hair is much too dark and little Joseph III’s hair is too light. and they showed Emma’s #younger brother but used her oldest brother’s name. and my major quibble is that the book completely ignored the existence of Joseph and #Emma’s oldest child Julia Smith which I think is because he didn’t want to go into the complicated circumstances of how they ended up #adopting her rather than not seeing adopted kids as someone’s real children but it still rubbed me the wrong way #and like I get that attitudes and social conventions about adoption were different in the early 1800s than they are today but I don’t get #the sense that Julia was ever NOT treated as one of their children at least not within the family #Mormonposting tag
