In that locker room right scene where Simon says "at least he’s open about liking me"… it kills me to hear him say that with that little sad face he makes. Because that’s the bottom of it for Simon, isn’t it? He knows Wille likes him, he’s always known that, but you can see how much he longs for Wille to be open about it —and I don’t even think it’s only about Wille being publicly open. And obviously Wille’s lies and broken promises played a role in them, but that’s also part of the openness Simon seeks.

There was so much back and forth for a while —which isn’t to blame Wille by the way, I understand how difficult everything was for him and that’s valid— but all of that back and forth got to Simon. Because Wille, although we knew and we saw how much he liked Simon… he wasn’t always opened about it with Simon.

Simon isn’t only asking Wille to find a way that they can be together without Simon being a secret, but he’s also asking Wille to fight for him back. He just saw Wille be more open about a hookup with Felice than he’s ever been about Simon.
