19 years to the day since i started playing ol’ neopets.gov. i am & always will be immeasurably grateful for the people it brought into my life (okay, most of them) and the paths it’s taken me down. i may not have been using the site itself since the NFT debacle, but i have my neoclone of choice. my neopets themselves may be locked behind a ‘change your password’ wall since the data leak, one i don’t care to climb, but they’re more than just pixels on a screen, you know? i always had a hard time accepting that, but being out of it for so long now, i really do understand what everyone was trying to tell me. you couldn’t take ‘em away any easier than you could take my tattoo. hell, it’d probably be harder--my data hoarding’s much more impenetrable than my skin.
and they’re not what really matters, anyway. the people i met through this site--my teenage guilds, my school buddies, my gay little family--if i could tell 9 year old clare how loved & accepted she’d feel one day, she would instantly attack me. like literally no hesitation. idk why it’s so hard for people to grasp that if i’d seen a version of my future self it would have been on-sight until one of us established dominance

modern au for cssr x wcz
where cssr is a touring pop indie artist and one night after a set where she performed brooklyn baby (lana del rey) in a bar/club, wcz the bartender serves her drink and asks, "is your boyfriend really cool?"
cssr blinks, gives him a (slow) once over, smiles.
"depends. are you?"
mama wei got soooooooo much game i just know it. she knew it, wielded it, killed (metaphorically) with it.
baba wei got game. didn't know it. didn't flaunt it. poured delicious cocktails w his sleeves rolled up his forearms and a genial smile and assumed everybody else got the same insane amount of tips every night.
cssr chatted wcz up, and wcz responded in kind without expectation. when a persistent guy wouldn't take the hint, less so the blunt 'no,' wcz deftly deals with him with a mere forbidding look and even (dangerous) tone.
cssr took him home that night.
wcz thought that was it. and was proven wrong.
cssr kept coming back, night after night, even when she didn't have to perform, reveling in doing the chasing for once.
wcz thought cssr who lived that kind of wild carefree lifestyle couldn't possibly 'settle' for a guy like him. and yet cssr is sooooooooooo gone for him.
some spurned loser: you know she's just playing with you, right? cssr will never be tied down, least of all by you
wcz: thank you for your concern, but i'm afraid you're not my type. and i would be a fool to even think about tying cangse down. she loves being a free spirit and i wouldn't change her for the world
cssr: marry me

wcz breaks off their kiss. "you could have any man... why me?"
"can't i just want you? don't you want me too?" cssr pouts playfully, tugging at his hair.
wcz gives in and kisses her again. "you can. i do. so much." he says between kisses.
and then they don't speak again until they're both undressed on wcz's bed, cssr straddling wcz with him deep inside her.
"those men only want to own me, control me--" cssr gasps. "make me a trophy to display at home. but you," she rolls her hips. "you're not like them. you wouldn't do that."
she revels in the way he looks at her, like he sees right through to her soul. not some work of art display or land to conquer; just her.
wcz lets her set the pace, then lifts her off him by the hips and just holds her there. "are you calling me weak?" he tugs her nipple with his teeth.
cssr squeaks then tugs at his head.
"nooo, you know what i mean!" she whines, kicking her feet when he keeps holding her still with just the tip of him inside her.
she retaliates by clenching her walls, rolling her hips and sucking at the sensitive spot behind his ear.
their little game continues until neither of them can keep any semblance of rhythm, devolving into a relentless chase to the end.
"you really won't tie me down, a-ze?" cssr pants against his lips.
"not unless you want me to." wcz says, still rubbing her clit, wet with their spend, until cssr shudders again.

they stay like that for a while, catching their breaths against sweaty skin. then cssr blows a raspberry into wcz's chest.
"should i be offended that you won't even try?" she says dryly.
"i will not do anything you don't want." wcz looks her in the eyes. cssr flushes with an eep! then looks down, tracing his clavicle.
"so if i say i want to keep traveling?"
wcz holds her wrist, pressing her palm to his heart. "then i will say, where to?"
"you'd come with me?"
"if you'd let me."
"what if i lose my voice?" cssr asks later as wcz washes her hair.
"then we'll take sign language classes and i'll work extra until you can find a new job."
"what if i get old and wrinkly and all my hair turns grey?" cssr asks while they're shopping for groceries.
"then people will finally believe me when i say i've been had by a cougar." wcz says while placing a jar of cssr's favorite peanut butter brand in the cart.
cssr squawks and smacks his arm with a bag of gummy bears.
"a-se, no one will believe your age with the way you act." wcz deadpans, then kisses her forehead. "if it bothers you, we can dye your hair to match mine, or mine to match yours."
"hmm, i do think you'd look cool with silver hair." cssr says, then challenges, "what if i want us to get pink hair?"
"then we'll both get pink hair dye."

.
"what if i'm no longer beautiful?" cssr asks as they settle in for bed. "will you still love me?"
"it's a good thing i don't love you for just your looks then," wcz says then kisses her pout away with a smile. "i will always love you no matter what you look like. my love is always beautiful."
cssr smiles and kisses him softly.
"good answer!" she chirps then turns on her back. "'cuz in four months, my belly will pop and my ankles will be swollen, and in eight months, i won't even be able to see them! but you still need to tell me i'm pretty, okay?"
"yes, yes, you're pretty," wcz mumbles half asleep... then blinks awake. "...wait. cangse?"
cssr hums. "good night, baby daddy."
then she conks out.
wcz blinks, and blinks again. he starts counting.
"what."
he counts again. fuck, they hadn't used any protection that first time, did they? neither did he use a condom that one time at the bar... or that other night... oh.
oh.
wcz doesn't sleep for a long time.
when morning comes, cssr wakes to wcz curled up against her waist, hand on her belly.
"silly changze, the baby's still just a pea!"
she smiles dopily. yep, this one's a keeper.
the end
eight months and twenty years later, wwx asks his parents about their love story to deflect from his own love woes, does the math, and realizes they conceived him the night they met:

you ever have a dream
that while you're dreaming it you're convinced that you've had it before, it's hilarious, and it's something you should remember when you finish waking up so you can share it with friends
and then you type it out, and it's just the office but a) they're selling frivalous insurance for things like getting snowed in in the equivalent of miami b) there are dragons and magic people and at one point the series is derailed underwater because the volcano dragon god just decided to nuke the city c) all you can remember is the michael scott analogue, played by will ferrell, being unintentionally racist to black people in the cast playing black stereotypes (mad black woman who cheats because she can't stand her husband working for a loser, literally the dad from family matters, replaced by literally the uncle from fresh prince) and trying to force the word "teust" (pronounced toysh because he's illiterate) into being a thing and it not working. Then halfway through the show will ferrell leaves for actually steve carell, but he's playing a much more subdued michael scott analogue who plays more into anxious and cringe inducing comedy of errors dipshittery from stupidity than an obnoxious yelly delusional guy, and the show becomes "2d" to save on sets because after the dragon nukes shit the show is set in the underwater portion of the city which is just a bunch of buildings on a sea cliff
stylistically people and characters are randomly live action, 2d, and 3d, with kind of a paper mario thing going on.
there was also a black kid on the team who was "obviously just hired because the michael analogue thought he'd be good diversity because he "speaks urban"" because that's how will ferrell's character treats him but he's the most effectual person in the organization by far and just happens to speak AAE. He quits the show early on (his actor goes to college) to open his own used game/card store. Which is where I was watching the show from. It was actually an n64 game?
the finale when the dragons try to destroy the whole world had a bunch of cameos tying both ends of the show together. the woman who cheated and her daughter reconcile, there's a love confessional between what i now gather were the pam and jim analogues, etc.
then i remember dreaming about how i should write this down but i'm too tired to. and started dreaming about making a zelda fangame in the style of the oracle games, and thought i could keep the weird show thing in memory by using the city as my overworld map, which was going to have revisiting dungeons for a second level boss fight be a thing. Around the corner was a japanese town where part of the plot was a girl getting killed in a movie theater and you having to exercise an angry spirit. which i hallucinated my grandma waking me up to tell me her sister told me that she "stopped that demon for [me]" but it was phrased as laundry somehow, which is wild because even in the context of the dream we both knew that aunt is dead. And i apologized to her for being judgmental towards in life.

THE SEVEN DEADLY SIMS (Sims 4 Challenge!)
Hey there! It's me, aka some loser on the internet.
CW: This challenge will include a lot of gruesome and sexual things. If you're uncomfortable with that, please move on! ty! <3
I'm making a legacy challenge based off of the seven deadly sins, known as Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. Several rules to this challenge:
-No money cheats!
-You can turn aging off for only a little bit if the aging process is going by too fast, but otherwise do not turn aging off!
-This challenge is base game, but is a lot more in depth and interesting with mods! Specifically Sacrifical's mods are really good for this type of gameplay! <3 (https://sacrificialmods.com/downloads.html)
GEN 1 - LUST
A lustful woman, who's power hungry, or has unbridled sexual desire. (Either pick one or the other.)
This sim will start off with 0 Simoleons, and must make money by sleeping with rich people, sometimes marrying them, taking their money, and murdering them! (Somewhat like the Black Widow Challenge.) This process will be repeated until they're an elder, or their own death. They should have at least 3 children by the time they're an elder. (If they make it to that age if you're playing with mods. . .)
Again, similar route if you're choosing power hungry/money obsessed path. The sim will start off with 0 Simoleons, and must get a job in business, and will work very hard. They have to fall in love with a sim who has a lot of money, and then have a baby with them. To make it spicy, once the baby is a child, they'll have to witness their parent's death since the lustful sim, hungry for power, status, and money will murder their partner who either they never loved, or loved with all of their heart. (Overdramatic, I know.) The child can either call the police, or keep it under wraps which will affect their mental stability as they are gluttony. . .
If you're going down the money and power hungry path, her aspiration will be Fabulously Wealthy. One of her traits will be Snob or Materialistic (Choose ONE.) Another will be Ambitious. You can choose any other traits. She'll have to work in business.
If you're going down the flirtatious path, her aspiration will be Serial Romantic. One of her traits should be flirty, and non-committal. A suggested but completely optional trait if you'd like to choose another, is Jealous.
GEN 2 - GLUTTONY I have not yet started Gluttony, since I'm only as far as Lust in the challenge, but I'll do my best to describe!
I hope this isn't offensive to anybody who thinks that they are overweight, or underweight.
TW: EATING DISORDERS!
Gluttony will be the child of Lust. There are 5 listed forms of Gluttony.
Laute – eating too expensively
Studiose – eating too daintily
Nimis – eating too much
Praepropere – eating too soon
Ardenter – eating too eagerly
You may choose which one you'd like your sim to act accordingly to. Gluttony's aspiration will be Master Chef. One trait will be one of these listed: Glutton, Lazy, Picky Eater, Slob, Snob. These are all lifestyle traits and shall relate to one of the forms of gluttony. You may use mods to give more options for traits, or aspirations that you'd seem fitting. Other traits will be up to you!
You can use mods to give your sim an eating disorder that they may develop when they're a child. This may be because of witnessing their parent being murdered and not saying anything about it. It can be for any other reason that'd make your gluttony sim live an unhealthy life.
GEN 3 - GREED
I have not yet started on Greed either, but I'll do my best to describe! (This challenge is still a WIP so please keep in mind as I try to finish the list, but for most of them I'll give a brief overview.)

Your greed sim will be the child of gluttony, and their aspiration will be Fabulously Wealthy. 2 traits will be Kleptomaniac, and Snob. Other traits are your choice.
GEN 4 - SLOTH
Same situation, I have not started on Sloth that much so it'll be a very brief overview!!
Sloth is referred to be without care, or careless about your actions and impact. Their aspiration will be master of mischief, OR if you're using a mod that suits Sloth better, please do use a custom aspiration/traits. 1 of their traits will be lazy, and the others are up to you! Your sloth sim will live a tired, I don't want to do anything and I don't care about you life. Try to get them a job that will suffice to that lifestyle!
WRATH

Sylvester the Cat x Toon!Reader || Drabble

Plot: I'm just experimenting with the Looney Tune idea so possibly enjoy some cute Sylvester Jr wanting you to be his new other parent.
Warnings: Toon violence?
You're just tying up the ends of Wile E's bandages into a tight little knot, prompting a wince from the coyote and a little board sign saying 'Ouch!'. Immediately you wince, stepping back. "Ohh... sorry, Wile E... I'm not exactly certified... " Daffy made you do this job, seeing as you're worse at sports then any of them- and that's saying something.
His head falls forward slightly and his ears wilt as you step back.
"Okay! Who's nex- " Turning around - picking up some more bandages and band aids in one fist, and an industrial sized tube of Acme branded antiseptic cream tucked under your other arm, - you look about for your next patient.
- And droop as soon as you see what kind if work load is waiting for you. It looks like every toon you know is lined up for medical attention!
The bandages and band aids slip out of your hands and scatter across the floor. "Oh boy." Quickly taking a deep breath to refresh yourself, you perk right up in order to get to it. Okay! "Sly! You're first, what's wro- Uh, hah. Nevermind."
Looking at him... maybe you don't have to ask...
Tweety flies through the giant gaping hole in Sylvester's tummy and the cat gives great sigh, slumping forward. "Why are the only times he's in there are when he can get out!!"
"I know, I know, woe is you. Sit down." You have no time for sympathies right now, you can allocate Sly only 2 minutes- and that's because you like him. The other patients coming get only one. "Okay, Sly!... um... " Oh brother you're stuck. Why do you do with an ailment like this?? Sylvester patiently sits, waiting for you to finish as you set your paws on your hips with a huff... wondering where exactly to go from here. Hm. "Do you maybe... know where your insides... are? Like, presently?"
"Uhh, they were... disintegrated... "
You two share a concerned look. "Maybe... spackle?- "
Just as Sylvester is gulping down his fear at your crazy suggestion, a certain black and white kitten comes speeding out of the crowd at the two of you. "FATHER!" Sylvester Junior stops at his fathers side, eyes wide with worry. "Father! Is he okay, Y/N??"
As you start rifling through your medical kit for something actually useful, you waive a dismissive paw at the kitten. "Oh, don't worry SJ. Your dad has recovered from worse- you know that."
Oh- that gives you an idea! It may not be strictly medical... or orthodox in the least, but its worth a try! Come on- you guys are toons. Straightening up, you look to the court; Searching for the little yellow speck you know is flying around somewhere.
Sylvester Jr nods slowly, pouting. His eyes are big, and round, and adorably full of worry. "Do you think I can sit on his lap safely, Y/N?"
Oh he's just the cutest. You turn back to your patient and raise your brows at him. "Can he?"
Sly perks up at the chance to get some much needed affection - rather then shameful berating, - from his rugrat. "Of course he can- come on, son- oww... " Unfortunately Sylvester Junior throws caution to the wind, and launches his little body at his father- almost going all the way through and causing you to seriously wince, but luckily Sylvester has a good grip on him and sets him in his lap rather then inside the cavern that was his belly. "Aghhh... thanks, son... I feel a lot better now... oof!- "
Sylvester Junior has thrown his arms around his father, and your heart leaps at the adorable scene...
Except- you wouldn't have, if you had heard what was really going on in that hug.
Sylvester's eyes widen and he deadpans at his son, hearing the words that come out in a rushed, hoarse whisper as soon as the hug he thought was genuine closes around his neck. Of course... this is his son, after all...
"How am I doing, Father?? Is Y/N looking?? I've been told that other cats become more inclined to date a cat who's good with children!, and since you're hopeless at that, I've elected myself, your darling baby son, to help you! So, are they looking father??"
"Junior!"
"Yes father???"
"I do not need your help to woo anyone, and I'm working on Y/N... " Sly tries to assure Jr, not sounding totally sure as his eyes fall downcast. "Its, uh, just a slow process, is all... " After a moment, he proudly lifts his chin, and he would puff out his chest, if... you know.. it was there... "I got your mother on my own, didn't I??"
Sylvester's proud moment is cut off quickly as his son pulls away from him to give a very deadpanned, sassy expression at the mention of his absentee mother cat. "And where is she, may I ask, father??"
A loud 'Aha!' comes from you a few feet away as you jump up, and grab something right out of the air.
Deeply rolling his eyes, irritation flickering inside him at the antics of his son, Sylvester Sr plonks him down on the bench beside him, angrily crossing his arms. Jr follows suit, looking like an exact replica of his father... except, smaller.
Blinking blankly around to see the two, with Tweety now wriggling around in your paws, you giggle at the sight. "What happened to you two? You were having such a heart warming father-son moment a second ago!"
"I'm full of shame, Y/N. Oh woe... "Sylvester Jr sighs, shaking his head as Sr turns his head slowly to look at him. "How am I to face my friends at the playground... My father- a loser!"
Sylvester pointedly looks away, angry eyes pointing towards the court. "My son... a spoiled brat. How am I ever to show my face in society, again?" An even heavier sigh comes out of Sylvester Jr at that remark, and Sylvester Sr immediately jumps up from the bench, pointing a stern finger at his son. "Oh no ya don't- Don't you dare get out that bag!!"
"But Father! I'm full of shame!" Sylvester Jr whines, holding the paper bag in his lap as you watch the two in wonderment. How they can bicker like this, and still have such an adorable, open relationship you have no clue - some kids are too scared to talk back to their fathers, - but the state of these two's relationship is truly, really endearing to you.
Oh how you love Sly... You catch yourself swooning at the thought of him, and immediately stop yourself. Stop it, Y/N! This is not the time for that. Taking a deep breath, you shake yourself. Okay, back to the task at hand.
Meanwhile, Sylvester snatches the paper bag away from Jr. "Oh, cut that out, wouldja?!"
While there's a pause in the argument, you jump and take your chance to hold up Tweety in front of Sylvester's face- his pupils shrinking at the sight and his teeth growing sharper, somehow.
"Oh no oh no- You mean old puddy tads- using me like this!" Tweety exclaims, wings pressed firmly to your paws and pushing, struggling to wiggle up and out of your tight grip. Yeah yeah, you think. Tell it to the choir.
Hopefully when I let Tweety go, Sly will give chase... and be all better!
Heh... isn't that how it works? It is, right? He'll 'perk right up'! you could say.
"Alright... here goes nothing!" You squeak, closing your eyes and letting Tweety go, hoping to god that Sylvester doesn't trample you in his endeavour to snatch his favourite little yellow bird.
Feeling a wind blow against you side and ruffling your fur as Sylvester springs to action, you slowly crack your eyes open again- first seeing Sylvester Jr as he still sits on the bench in front of you swinging his legs over the side of the bench, before peaking over your shoulder, and... "Yes!" You cry out as soon as your keen feline eyes catch sight of Sylvester looking good as new again on the court, chasing Tweety through the still-roaring basketball game. Clasping your hands together, your tail wiggles excitedly behind your back. "It worked!"
"What?" Sylvester hears your cheering and immediately halts in his tracks, looking at you then down at himself- a big, toothy smile spreading across his face when he see's he's all better. "Y/N! You did it! Thanks!"
"Of course!" You call back, then point at the scoreboard and wink. "Now kick those Monstar's butts for me!"
The green Monstar turns a squinty looking evil eye on you at hearing your words but you don't care- you're far too busy burning the image of Sly giving you a thumbs up into your mind.
"Heheh, no problem... " That trademark evil grin slips across Sly's face again as he rubs his paws together, turning his attention back to the game as you sigh, paws on your hips; Happy with your job well done.
"Uh, hello??" Someone speaks up from behind you, and you jump, suddenly remembering the mile long line of toons that still need medical attention.
Ohhh... great. You slowly turn around, seeing Elmer giving you angry eyes and quickly look extremely apologetic, paws awkwardly behind your back and spine as straight as a plank. Oops!
You might seem help... you think you tilting your head to see the rest of the long... long, l o n g line. "Uhh... SJ? You wanna help me play nurse, maybe?"
"Oh, yes Y/N!" He exclaims enthusiastically, hopping off the bench and taking up your medical kit in his short little arms- which is way too big for him. You giggle and take it from the kitten, patting his head. "I'll be happy to be your assistant!"
Fist bumping each other, you wink. "That's the kinda attitude I like to see! Lets go."

A couple hours and countless injuries later and the game is coming to a nail chewing close. Truly, this is a new level of anxiety you're feeling as you leave Sylvester Junior, now exhausted and up past his bedtime, curled in Granny's lap with a blanket strewn over him. Then you sit back down to watch the game beside a very injured Sly, as Witch Hazel defibrillates Taz.
If Michael doesn't make this shot - with but seven seconds to go, - he has to move to Moron Mountain in your place. You all dragged him here for help and now h's the one with everything on the line.
You cant help but feel a massive load of guilt.
"Oh I cant watch!" You squeak suddenly amongst the thunderous sounds of the audience at 4 seconds, and cover your eyes. "Tell me when its over!"

.
3 seconds later, the buzzer screeches and you hear the toons around you cheering, and peak out nervously from beyond your paws. ... What happened?
Your gaze flickers to the score board.
Oh my god. A deep, relieved breath comes out of you. "We won!?"
"We won!" Sylvester concurs, jumping up from the bench and throwing a fist into the air. Then he puts his paws on your arms and beams down at you. "We're not gonna be slaves!!"
You wonder what you could say in response, but the one thing your body is telling to you to do is throw your arms around him- so you do. And he doesn't think twice before squeezing you back, picking you up and swinging you around.
Then the world comes crashing down around Sly, as his son opens his eyes to see the scene- and gasps. The kitten sits up quickly in Granny's lap and points. "Oh, father! You did it! I knew you could do it!"
Immediately Sylvester puts you down, his paws retreating from you and a definite sense of nervousness - and maybe embarrassment? - settles over him. You raise your brows, confused, but still swimming in the joy of the game being won and just tilt your head as you confusedly smile. "What did he do??"
Sly Jr doesn't even think a second before gleefully elaborating- despite his father very nearly shaking his soul free waving his hands at him in a doomed endeavour to shut his son up. "No- stop, Junior!- "
"Asked you out! Didn't he?" As the wide eyed bewilderment on your face and the utter horror on Sylvester's dawns on Jr, his shoulders drop and he turns disappointedly at his dad. "Didn't you?"
"No!"
"Oh, father!- "
Sylvester Sr's tail, shoulders, and head slump forward as he turns his kitten around so he faces away from the two of you, embarrassment replaced by exasperation. "You're tired, son. Go to sleep. Night night, sleep tight, sweet dreams, don't let the bed bugs bite and we'll talk in the morning." Then he slowly, meekly turns back to you.
And you're practically glowing. "Sly... what's he talking about?"
"Father likes you!- " Sylvester Jr tries to speak up again, turning his head but Sr twists his head carefully back, a reprimanding tone in his voice.
"Sleep! Hah hah... " Sylvester (Sr) turns back to you, arms held carefully behind his back as he chuckles nervously. "My son is... troubled... a little- "He point at his head and swirls his finger; A gesture reading 'Loopy'. As soon as the meaning behind that word and his gesture occurs to you, you visibly droop. Oh. Okay... I guess SJ was just messing with us... Sly watches this reaction, and his ears perk up quickly; Sensing some dissappintment. "I mean, uh... unless you liked the i-idea?"
You peak up at him again from the floor, seeing his face slowly going red. "... D-do you?"
"Wha- I asked first! You answer the question."
"Hey." Setting your fists to your hips, you look stubbornly at him. "You were just taking it all back! So you tell the truth. Which is it??"
"Yeah- but I asked the question first!"
"Sylvester James Pussycat Senior!"
"Pfft... if you think pulling full name on me is going to change anything... " He rolls his eyes, crossing his arms. "You've got another thing comin'!"
Your eyes narrow, and so do his, before suddenly Taz jumps up from the bench he was resting on and ZOOMS past Sly so fast and so hazardously, that he's caught off guard and jumps forward with a yelp- accidentally knocking you.
"Oh!-"
"H-hold on, I got ya!!" Sylvester's eyes widen to the size of dinner plates and he grabs you just before gravity manages to drag you down to the ground; Pulling you back up to your feet- which just so happens to bring you two extremely close together.
Two sets of eyes widen and faces go red.
Everything seems to go a little quieter around you, the deafening sounds of the auditorium seeming to get plunged under water as the crazy all just slows down for just a moment. Enough for you to enjoy the few seconds you foreseeably get before he jumps back like someone sprayed him.
But to your surprise, he doesn't move. Just stands there and looks shocked... but does not move even an inch away from you. Doesn't even let go of you.
Finally, after a few good moments, you sigh and give in. "... Sly, would you like to go out sometime with me?"
"Ah... " His ears flatten against his head as he looks bashful, with a cute little smile that makes your stomach do backflips as he curls his tail around yours. "Yes, I'd like that very much."
You lean up and give him a feather light kiss on the cheeks- and he goes even redder.

A/N- ahhh chapter four is here!! so I got a little carried away with this chapter and had to cut it down (this only means that chapter 5 is already partially written so yay). this is a pretty action packed chapter, but I hope you guys like it! we are so close to the Party and the Losers’ Club meeting🤩I’m super excited!! thank you for all the love and support!

As much as it pained the Losers to have to wait another day to save Mike, they knew it would be no use if they went into the whole situation more tired than they already were. So after getting the few hours of sleep that they could and having to go through another dreadful day of school, you could say they were a little impatient by the time there was only a minute of the school day left.
Y/N bounced her knee up and down, her toes being the only thing touching the ground as she violently shook her leg. Her eyes were trained on the clock at the front of the room and she was biting her lip nervously, the only thoughts she could think of being that she wanted nothing more than for the school day to be over.
Bill watched the girl silently from his assigned seat across the class. Back when the teacher had allowed them to sit anywhere, the two had sat side by side. However one pair of girls had ruined it for everyone the day they kept talking during class which meant the teacher could think of nothing more to do than create a seating chart.
Y/N was placed at the front of the room while Bill was in the back, but Bill didn't complain. He would've liked to sit next to the girl, but luckily for him, his spot in the back gave him the perfect side view of the girl's face, allowing him to admire her from afar without her even noticing.
In that moment, his eyes kept flickering between the clock and Y/N who he hesitated on a little bit longer each time. It was only when the bell rang that Bill seemed to snap out of his thoughts and he was quick to get up from his seat and race over to Y/N, grabbing onto her hand and dragging her out of the room as the teens raced to find their friends.
Neither of them had to go to their lockers and it seemed the other Losers didn't either because Beverly, Richie, Eddie, Ben and Stan were already waiting by their bikes when the two made it.
"Finally! You two just couldn't save your make out session for later, could you?" Richie asked causing both teens to simultaneously blush and glare at the boy.
"Shut up, Richie," Y/N muttered as she reluctantly let go of Bill's hand and got onto her bike. "Come on. We can go to my house."
The others nodded and not even fifteen minutes later they were at Y/N's house, locked away in her basement with papers and pencils on a huge table in front of them.
"The portal you guys saw," Y/N began as she took a piece of paper and drew a long line across the middle of it, "it goes to a place called the Upside Down. I know I've mentioned it before, but I don't think I've ever really explained it. One of my past teachers once explained alternate dimensions like this. Think of this line as a tightrope and the tightrope represents our dimension."
Y/N drew a little stick figure on top of the tightrope before saying, "For an acrobat, they can only go backwards or forwards along the rope since the rope is flat. They can't turn upside down or they will fall off."
She then drew a tiny dot on the rope. "This is a flea. Now the flea is different than the acrobat. It can go forwards and backwards, but it can also go up and down meaning that it can get into the other dimension. The portal is like what makes us fleas, allowing us to cross over into this other dimension if that makes sense," Y/N explained.
"I'm confused," Stan muttered. "How does something like that even exist?"
"We don't know. It's just kind of been there and we don't exactly know why it's all decay either," Y/N replied.
"Why do we have to be fleas to go into the Upside Down?" Richie asked gaining everyone's attention. "I don't want to be a fucking flea!"
"What? Richie-" Y/N began as she shook her head.
"I don't want to be a flea, Y/N!" Richie exclaimed while Eddie shook his head at the boy.
Before Richie knew what was happening, Eddie had whacked him on the back of the head. "You idiot, we aren't going to turn into fleas. It's just a metaphor, dumbass," Eddie said with a roll of his eyes.
"Oh," Richie said as his eyes lit up in realization. The others just shook their heads in disbelief.
"So what's the game plan then?" Beverly asked.
"Yeah, how are we going to save Mike? We can't all go to the Upside Down, right? What if the portal closes?" Ben asked although Y/N knew he only asked because he didn't want to be the one to go into the portal.
"That's where my experience with the Upside Down comes into play. Now I've only been in there once, but I know enough to make my way around and stay safe. We don't need everyone going, so I'll just go and have a rope tied to myself so that you guys can pull me back if I yank hard enough," Y/N explained.
"I-I-I'm going w-w-with," Bill declared causing the young girl to look at him with raised eyebrows.
Y/N let out a small laugh before shaking her head as she smiled at the boy, "No, you aren't."
Bill furrowed his eyebrows and frowned. "I-I-I'm going, Y/N," he insisted.
The girl shook her head. "You don't get it. I am the only one who knows what this place is like. I'm not about to bring any of you, especially you, into that place. It's just not happening," Y/N told him.
"I-I-I will be fine b-b-because I'm with y-y-you, but I w-w-will not let y-y-you go in there a-a-alone even if you d-d-do have experience w-w-with this thing," Bill said, crossing his arms as he gave the girl a serious look that told her he wouldn't back down.
Y/N frowned, obviously not pleased with Bill's decision, but nodded. "Fine, but you aren't allowed to leave my side even for a second, got it?" she asked.
Bill smiled and let his arms fall back down to his side. "W-W-Wouldn't want to be a-a-anywhere else," he said. Y/N felt her face heat up at that and she quickly looked away while the others all looked at her in amusement.
"So what do we need to do now?" Eddie asked.
"Well we can't exactly just waltz right into the Well House," Y/N explained. "We're going to need supplies like weapons of any kind, flashlights, masks and rope."
"Lots and lots of rope."

"I can't believe you're doing this," Eddie muttered, his face pale as he stared at the pulsing goo in front of him that lined the basement wall of the Well House. He looked as if he might puke or pass out. Maybe even both. "That thing looks like an infection just waiting to happen."
"Oh, hush. They'll be fine. It's just decay anyways," Beverly noted from where she was tying the rope around Y/N's waist, remembering what Y/N had said about the Upside Down being a world of decay. She finished tightening the rope before standing back and looking at the girl who grinned at her.
"Be careful and go kick some demogorgon and It ass while you're at it," Beverly told the girl. Y/N smiled and the two girls high fived before Beverly gave her a quick hug just in case something were to happen.
"Remember, we are just trying to figure out what is going on in there and hopefully you guys will find Mike while you're at it. No unnecessary fighting if you can help it," Stan said.
Y/N nodded and the two did a small fist bump before Y/N turned to see Bill talking to Richie, Eddie, and Ben. Her eyes locked with Bill's and she gave him a small nod. "Ready?" she asked.
Bill nodded and pulled his bandana up and over his mouth and nose, a technique Y/N had advised him to use to keep the decay out of his lungs. "Ready," he nodded.
Y/N nodded back and put the bandana over her mouth and nose as well before looking over at Richie, Eddie, and Ben and saluting then. Eddie chuckled and waved to the girls while Ben quickly saluted her back. Richie tried to hide his small smile as he rolled his eyes at the girl, but he couldn't stop himself from smiling at her goofiness and looked to the ground.
Bill lightly grabbed onto Y/N's hand, instantly gaining her attention for a moment. Their eyes locked and he squeezed her hand slightly before she squeezed back. The two then looked before them and took a deep breath before pushing their way through the goo portal, the ropes attached to their waists staying on the other side with the Losers where a huge pile of rope they had managed to find from town laid by their feet.
It took about a minute for the two to break out of the other side of the portal and about fifteen seconds for their eyes to adjust to the sudden darkness around them. Y/N shuddered at the sight before her, the familiar sight of decay in front of her bringing back too many memories.
Bill let out a small gasp, his eyes wide as he looked around and muttered, "What the hell. . ."
Y/N ignored the boy and was quick to flip on her flashlight. "Let's go," she said, her hand still tightly holding onto Bill's as she took a step forward.
She held onto him so tight that Bill thought his hand might break, but he knew she was just afraid and thinking of her many experiences with the world they were in so he held her back just as tight and rubbed a thumb along the top of her hand.
Bill followed at her side and pulled his flashlight out as well as the two began to walk deeper and deeper into the Upside Down. Bill didn't know what to think as he looked around, still shocked at the place that was before him.
They seemed to be in the Well House still, or at least a version of the Well House. Bill had thought the house was already broken down, but this just proved how much worse it could be where half of the building was practically crumbling to ashes while everything was covered in a grayish green decay.
The teens quietly made their way up the stairs of the basement and began to make their way towards the front door, making sure to be quiet enough not to let It or the Demogorgons know they were there.
"We should check outside first. Mike's bike was left outside, so maybe we could find clues," Y/N told him in a whisper and Bill nodded in response.
Luckily the door was already open so all the two had to do was step over some of the broken wood from the door before they were outside. Bill almost gasped louder at the sight of the outside world.
Just like Y/N had said, the scenery around him reminded him of Derry. There were buildings and streets identical to the ones he was used to seeing every day. The only difference was that this landscape was covered in decay and a green and gray tint to everything.
Bill could only stare in shock, so Y/N gently tugged on his hand as she pulled him forward. They couldn't afford to get distracted or separated. Not in a place like this.
The two walked down the front stairs and Y/N dragged Bill over to the same bush that Mike's bike had been in, only the bush was nothing but a bunch of broken twigs while all that was left of a bike was the rusty handles broken in pieces on the ground.
Y/N frowned and bent down to pick a metal piece up. She stood up and studied it for a minute before looking up and around at the scenery in front of her. She was quiet as she looked around, her eyes scanning the area as if she were waiting for something to happen or looking for clues to anything alive having walked through these parts.
Her questioning gaze was soon answered when a small almost screeching noise came from the house behind them. . .the same house they had just walked out of.
Y/N's eyes widened while Bill stilled beside her. "W-W-What was th-th-that?" Bill asked as he looked to the girl beside him confused.
Y/N shook her head and turned to look at the house, but as soon as she heard what sounded like claws scrapping across the ground as something started running through the house, she immediately burst into action.
Her grip tightened on Bill's hand and she bolted, yanking the boy forward as she yelled, "Run!"
All she could hear was her own heart beating in her chest and the cries of a demogorgon as she ran. She knew Bill was yelling at her, possibly trying to figure out what was chasing them and what they were going to do, but she wasn't able to function or process his words so all she heard was a muffled voice yelling from behind her.
Y/N didn't know where she was running as they rushed forward, but she knew that she had to find somewhere to hide, someone where the demogorgon would have trouble finding her. Why she thought the creepy woods was a good idea, she had no idea. But then again, everything in the Upside Down was creepy so how could the woods be any different?
"This way!" Y/N yelled as she pulled Bill into the forest with her. All the trees were bare of leaves, some of them even having branches and twigs broken in odd angles, but there were so many of them bundled together that it was easy for the girl to find them a hiding spot between two large trees towards the middle of the woods.
Y/N had to remind herself to keep her breathing low, that it didn't matter how scared she was. If the demogorgon heard her breathing, then it would be able to find her. It took a second but she finally managed to get her breathing to almost inaudible.
The only problem was Bill who was holding onto her hand with a deathly grip as his other hand held onto his chest. His eyes were looking around frantically and his breathing was almost so rapid that his body shook with every breath.
Y/N frowned sadly before quickly turning her body so that she was in front of the boy. Her hand was quick to go over his mouth, instantly making his breathing ten times quieter. Bill stared at her with wide eyes and she tried to remain calm as she looked at him.
Sweat was dripping down both of their faces and fear was evident in their eyes. Bill shook below her touch and Y/N gave him a sympathetic look before letting go of his hand so that she could brush her hand through his hair, a small gesture she always did when she needed to calm him down.
It seemed to help a little bit and he just blinked and watched her silently as she kept her hand over his mouth. Once she knew he was calm enough for her to look away, Y/N peaked her head out and around the tree so that she could look back in the direction they had just come from.
A snap of a twig had her pulling back and practically launching herself at Bill, the two huddling together as Y/N kept her hand over his mouth and bit her lip to keep herself quiet. Both teens were shaking as they heard the crunching sound of dead twigs and leaves and Bill squeezed his eyes shut before leaning into the girl more, never having felt this scared except for three years ago when they had fought Pennywise.
He hadn't even seen the thing, but it didn't take much for him to realize why Y/N was so freaked out and the sound it made only added to his own fear.
The two were so quiet that the crunching of the leaves and twigs was the only sound that filled the air. So when the sound suddenly paused before starting back up again and growing distant as it did, the two knew they were safe. Y/N waited a moment after the sound had disappeared before pulling away from Bill and looking around the tree.
She let out a small sigh of relief once she saw that the coast was clear and she turned back to Bill before pulling her hand away. Their noses were touching from how close they were, their rapid breaths mingling together as they stared at each other.
"W-W-What was th-th-that?" Bill asked, his eyes frantically searching Y/N's as if they held the answer to his question.
"A demogorgon. Something you do not want to meet," Y/N breathed out. She let her eyes flicker over Bill's face before she looked at him worriedly and used a hand to cup his cheek, her thumb rubbing his skin as he leaned into her touch. "Are you okay?" she asked worriedly.
Bill instantly nodded. "Y-Y-Yeah, I'm okay," he told her before he reached up and brushed a strand of hair that had fallen out of her ponytail behind her ear. "Are you okay?"
He knew how much the Upside Down and the creatures inhabiting it had affected her. There had been countless nights where she had showed up knocking on his window with tears in her eyes and where he had held her in his arms as she cried and shook in his hold from how frightened and upset she was. Bill had never minded much especially since Y/N returned the favor whenever he had nightmares of Georgie and It.
Y/N let out a shaky breath and nodded her head, "Yeah, I'm-"
Her sentence fell on deaf ears as an ear piercing scream filled the air. Y/N instantly tensed while Bill looked at her confused. Y/N ignored the boy as she quickly pulled away, her eyes wide as she looked around. "That scream. . ." She muttered making Bill furrow his eyebrows.
"W-W-What scr-" Bill didn't get to finish because Y/N's wars were suddenly filled with another scream that made her eyes widen.
"It's Mike!" she cried out. "This way!" Before Bill could even get up, the girl had bolted and by the time he was up, she was already gone.
"Sh-Sh-Shit," Bill muttered as he realized him and Y/N were now separated. "Y/N!" he cried out, but there was no response. Knowing there was no way in hell he would be leaving without her, Bill took a deep breath before running in the direction she had went, silently wondering to himself what screaming she had been talking about.
The screaming may have not been real for Bill, but for Y/N it was very real. So real in fact that she didn't even think twice about running off to find Mike. She knew about the horrors that came with the Upside Down so she could only imagine what was happening to him at that moment.
However, it wasn't until she reached a small clearing where Mike was standing with a blank expression on his face that she realized she had been tricked.
"Mike?" Y/N called out, confusion laced in her voice. Upon realizing it was him, she let out a sigh of relief and ran over to the boy, a smile on her face. She reached the boy in a matter of seconds and was quick to wrap her arms around him in a hug. "Thank goodness you are okay! I don't know what I would've done if I-"
The girl fell short as she realized Mike wasn't hugging her back. Confused, Y/N pulled way to see that Mike was staring at her with a blank look on his face, his eyes wide as he just stared at her in silence.
"Mike?" Y/N questioned, a nervous laugh escaping her lips. "Come on. We don't have time for games. We have to get out of here."
Y/N turned to leave but before she could even take a step, Mike's hand was suddenly grabbing onto her wrist before he let out an eerie laugh.
"Oh, but games are so much fun, Y/N," a voice that didn't belong to Mike told her. The girl tensed at that and slowly looked behind her to see that Mike had disappeared and been replaced by It.
The clown grinned at her, his sharp teeth shining as his eyes stared at her. "We can play a game," It suggested while Y/N shook her head and began to pull against It's iron grip. Tears were in her eyes as she struggle, but It didn't seem to notice. "The other kids love my games. You can float too, you know. You'll float too. You'll float too. You'll float too! You'll float too!"
It's voice was so loud that Y/N's ears hurt. Letting out a strangled cry as tears began to stream down her face, the seventeen year old tried deservedly to escape his iron grip. It just laughed and Y/N's eyes widened when the clown's mouth opened up to reveal rows of sharp teeth.
Just when It was about to clamp it's teeth into her arm, Y/N remembered the rope around her waist and yanked on it before using her leg to sweep It out from under his feet.
On the other side of the portal to the Upside Down stood the Losers' Club who were all staring at the portal ahead of them with frowns on their faces. "You think they're okay?" Stan asked quietly, his voice just above a whisper.
As if having heard his voice, the rope that belonged to Y/N suddenly began to move forward faster than any of them had seen. Beverly's eyes widened and she quickly grabbed ahold of the rope, only then realizing that Y/N was tugging against it to signal that she needed them to get her out.
"She's pulling on the rope! Y/N needs help!" Beverly exclaimed, the others' eyes all widening as they hurried over to the girl and began to pull on the rope.
Y/N let out a small sigh of relief as she began to run, the rope pulling back against her not only helping her run faster but also telling her that her friends were trying to help her.
She had lost It a little ways back, but Y/N was no fool and knew that he was not far behind. Stumbling through the woods, Y/N was barely paying attention and accidentally slipped onto the ground.
The girl let out a groan as she sat up, but it was only then that she realized the tugging on the rope had stopped. Y/N furrowed her eyebrows, a small panic rising in her chest as she hesitantly reached out for the rope and began pulling on it. It was as if the rope was as loose as could be and before she knew it, Y/N came face to face with the frayed end of a rope.
The rope, her way back home and the connection to her friends, had been cut.
"No," Y/N muttered as she felt the bubble of panic rising in her chest. "No. No. No. No."
"Y/N, please don't run! We can all be friends down here!" It's voice sang from a little ways away causing the girl to drop the rope in her hand and scramble to her feet.
Y/N didn't know where she was going at this point, the rope not being of any help anymore. Everything in the woods looked the same and the longer she ran through it, the more scared and upset she got. She just knew that she had to get away from It.
She hadn't even realized she was crying before her vision got so blurry that she was literally just stumbling around. Her breathing was heavy as she ran forward, her eyes flickering all around her.
Hadn't she passed that tree a minute ago? Why did everything look so familiar? Wasn't that the place her and Bill had hid from the demogorgon?
Y/N froze at that. Her eyes wide as she realized Bill was no longer with her. When had that happened? She didn't know whether to be relieved since he didn't have to deal with It or scared because she didn't know what was happening to him.
"Bill!" Y/N cried out frantically, tears streaming down her face even more as she suddenly became frightened for Bill's life. "Bill!"
A loud screech from behind her made her jump as she realized both the demogorgons and It were now after her. Knowing she had to find Bill, Y/N took a deep breath before running back into the thicker parts of the woods, making sure to still run away from the creatures that were following her.
"Bill!" Y/N yelled as the branches on the trees scratched her face and pulled at her hair. "Bill!"
She ran through the thick trees for a second longer before she suddenly came stumbling out into a small clearing. No sooner had her feet touched the ground that something came barreling into her side causing her to hit the ground as she let out a scream of terror.
Y/N squeezed her eyes shut as she began to cry, knowing that this was it. A fucking demogorgon had gotten her and she was about to die. She really hoped Bill had found his way out, that he had made it back to the others and that they would work with her friends from Hawkins to kill these motherfuckers.
"Y/N?"
The girl's thoughts were hushed at the sound of her name and she slowly blinked her eyes open to see Bill propped up above her. "B-B-Bill?" she questioned, still leaning back slightly and shaking because she wasn't quite sure if this was actually the boy that had stolen her heart or some sick hallucination caused by the clown.
But then she saw the rope attached to his hip and the concern in his eyes as he gently reached up and cradled her face in disbelief before hugging her tightly. "F-F-Fuck. Don't sc-sc-scare me like th-th-that," he muttered as he held her close to his body, stroking her hair and pressing a kiss to her temple as he did so.
And she knew it was him.
A loud sob left her lips as she clung onto the boy, a feeling of relief washing over her at the fact that he was okay. However, the two didn't get long to comfort each other before a loud almost howl like screech filled the air.
Y/N perked up at that, instantly remembering why she had been running in the first place. "We have to go," she told him before she grabbed onto the rope around his waist and began to yank on it. Within a couple of seconds, the rope was starting to pull Bill up onto his feet and through the woods. Bill was quick to grasp onto Y/N's hand and the two began to run as fast as they possibly could in the direction the rope was pulling them.
It didn't take long for them to exit the woods, the Well House coming back into sight. Y/N silently wondered if the house had been that close all along and if the woods had just been a trick of her mind.
A red flash of lightning came from behind them and Y/N felt the hairs in the back of her neck stand up. She hesitantly looked behind her before gasping at the sight of the Mind Flayer, a creature from the Upside Down that she hadn't seen in two years. She had thought he was dead.
"We got to go!" Y/N exclaimed, pulling Bill along faster towards the house. A howling screech filled the air before it was followed by another one and then another. It didn't take much for Y/N to realize that the Mind Flayer had sent a herd of demodogs after them.
"Shit," she muttered as she pushed Bill into the house, glancing back to see a herd of demodogs and demogorgons running out from the woods they had just come from with the Mind Flayer right behind them.
Bill looked outside as well and his eyes widened before he quickly grabbed Y/N's hand and began to pull her towards the basement. The two could hear the creatures that were hot on their trail and for a second they both even swore they heard the sound of Pennywise laughing from behind them.
But then they saw the flashing portal and didn't even think twice before lunging inside, the two flying through and onto the floor of their world causing the Losers to all jump back in surprise.
"Holy shit! You guys okay?" Beverly asked as she hurried over to help them up, but neither of them made a move to get up. Y/N had started to cry while Bill held her close to his body, his eyes trained on the portal in front of them as if he couldn't believe what had just happened.
"Guys? Why aren't you talking? What's wrong?" Ben asked worriedly.
"Yeah, what the fuck happened in there? And why the hell was Y/N's rope cut?" Richie questioned in anger as he held up the frayed end of the rope that had been on their side.
"What about Mike? Did you see Mike?" Eddie asked.
The questions all came barreling at the two, but neither were able to process just what their friends were asking. Y/N was shaking as she held onto Bill, the boy shakily holding her back as both of them stared at the portal in front of them.
Just then, the lights above the group began to flicker causing everyone to look up confused.
"Oh no."
The Losers all froze and turned to look at Y/N, their faces paling slightly at the look of sheer fright and panic on her face. "What's wrong?" Stan asked, not knowing if he actually wanted to hear the answer.
However, he got his answer sooner than he expected when a slimy looking hand pushed its way through the goo portal on the wall. Before any of them could blink, the face of a demogorgon appeared, it's whole face opening up like a flower to reveal rows of teeth as it screeched at them.
Everyone let out a scream while Richie yelled out, "What the fuck! What the fuck!"
The next few seconds were a blur as everyone scrambled towards the stairs, tripping over each other as they did. The demogorgon chased after them, but somehow the teens were able to be just a step ahead of the creature.
They ran towards the front door and Y/N quickly pushed her friends outside before they all stumbled across the front yard. The demogorgon was right behind them and Y/N pushed her friends across the street only to trip and land just on the other side of the road.
"Y/N!" Bill cried out once he saw that the girl had fallen behind. He went to run back, but it was too late, the demogorgon was already standing above the girl with its mouth opening up even wider if that was even possible. Y/N whimpered and tried to crawl away but the demogorgon's hand was suddenly latching onto her ankle.
But its hold on her disappeared almost as quickly as it had happened. The hold was suddenly ripped away as a car came barreling past the group, the front of it hitting the demogorgon so hard that the creature went flying back.
The Losers all blinked in surprise before looking to the car that had stopped in front of them. Y/N was breathing heavily as she pushed the strands of hair that had fallen from her ponytail out of her face.
Her lungs and ankle were on fire as she looked up at the car and she was shaking out of fright, but she still managed to smile as the window rolled down to reveal that face of Steve Harrington. The boy ran a hand through his hair before glancing down at Y/N who was lying on the ground still.
"L/N, still don't know how to stay out of trouble I see," he mused, the corners of his lips twitching up slightly as he looked at the girl.
Y/N let out a laugh of relief that had the Losers all looking at her with wide eyes, wondering how the hell she was able to laugh after what had just happened.
Then they saw the smile on her face and the way she looked at the boy as if she couldn't believe her eyes and they knew this person was obviously important to her and she was relieved to see him. This all together made them look to the boy confused, wondering just who the hell this guy was.
"Harrington, still don't know how to drive I see."

If you're still in the mood... how about a lovely Zelda in denial of her feelings for Link and Link trying to convince her that it's okay for them to be in love. Thank you!
Simple enough, I think I can manage this one. :P You weren’t specific (and my fics usually end up being more “general” Zelink anyway) so I’ll just write and see what we come up with.
(Literally writing this right I after I finished this… got way longer than I intended and I’m sorry if the last part seemed rushed. I wanted to give it an ending and not just… leave it in drafts. Drafts for me is like a fic cemetery.)
The morning hours are her favorite. The quiet still shuffle of the dawn bringing out the sellers far below in the marketplace.  The light hints of sunrise peaking out from beyond the dangerous points of Death Mountain. There’s calm and routine to the mornings. Zelda brushes her fingers through her brunette locks and hums a tune she recalls from her childhood. Her robe doesn’t entirely protect her from the chilly air but she likes the cold too.
Sipping her tea, the Queen strolls back into her chambers. The flicker of the candles she’s lit cast strange shadows along her walls. She debates for a moment on how smart it would be to curl into the warmth of her covers. It has been a long time since she’s taken a rest day.
So long, in fact, that her council has been urging her to take a vacation. 
Zelda doesn’t understand vacations. You travel several days, attempt to rest without worrying about your kingdom for just a few and then spend longer getting back. Provided the weather conditions remain favorable, you may enjoy a few hours of respite from the rigors of ruler-ship. The Queen settles into a chair and continues to muse on the topic. The Zora have offered her an invitation and the Gorons. She’s no fool. She would end up in delegations with their respective leaders. Other countries have offered a trip into their borders as well.
Marriage and trade talks. Unions and such.
Zelda sighs. Despite the sugar, her tea tastes bitter. “Nayru, help me through this day. I have already stressed myself out.” With her morning on it’s way to mental ruin, she gets dressed and exits her rooms.
She attends her meetings, attends to the needs of her people and oversees what all cries for her attention. All different from previous days but leading to the same “grey” feeling that’s been haunting her awareness. 
“Zelda!” 
She turns and a the smirk at the familiar face of Hyrule’s Hero. “Link, I’m beginning to think that you enjoy adding fuel to the fire.”
“Fire?” He laughs as he catches onto her meaning. “Ah, you mean our sordid love affair?” He shrugs. “It feels odd to call you by anything other than your name when we’re talking casually.” He’s dressed in lighter armor but his sword remains attached to his hip. Out of habit, his left palm rests on the pommel and he straightens a bit. “Does it offend you?”
She should tell him yes. “No.” She smiles, softly. “Just address me by my proper title when it is… less private.” They’re standing in an open hallway and the servants are snickering somewhere close by. Zelda chooses to ignore them and focus on the bright spot of her day. “I saw your request for leave cross my desk this morning. I was surprised that you’ve requested it so immediately. Is everything all right back in Ordon?”
He grins. Actually, he beams and Zelda finds that the chill of the day dissipates with it. “Just fine! Mayor Bo sent word that Ilia’s gone into labor. I reckon that the baby should be here by the time I should arrive.”
“I worried it might be something more grave.” She smiles with him. Happy to partake in his excitement. “I know how much your friend means to you. You’ll have my permission, of course.” Something heavy falls into the pit of her gut. “Two weeks will be a long time without you at the Castle.”
Link nods and leans against the wall. “Yeah, it’ll be nice to see my old town though. I miss my family there and Ilia’s like the sister I never had. Need to know if I’ve got a niece or nephew to spoil.”
“I recall you betting with Sir Rusl on it being a girl.” Zelda’s tone turns amused and she steps closer to speak a bit more quietly. “I also heard that you are a terrible gambler.”
He laughs. “I prefer ‘losing with grace’ but, yes, I frequently lose bets.” He winks. “Why, fancy a wager?”
“And what would we bet on?” She knows it’s a terrible vice but the prospect of playing against the hero is too tempting. Besides, she has so few vices that she dismisses the small amount of guilt that assails her. 
Link leans closer and motions with his hand for her to do so too. “I bet,” he whispers, conspiratorially, “I can still out shoot you at the archery range.”
“Implying that you were able to before?” She smirks. They have always been tied but, though she hates to admit it, she hasn’t been able to practice as much as she would like. “So, what will I get when you lose?”
He grins. “I’ll bring you back one of those beautiful baskets that Uli makes… and, when I win, you have to come on my trip with me.”
His request startles her and she gasps. “T-That’s–”
“You need a break. We both know that and I know you don’t want to travel far from Hyrule. Ordon is just outside the limits. We’re even governed by you. It will be close enough to give you comfort and,” He continues through all of her attempts at derailing his reasons, “peaceful to give you the rest you need.” He leans back and shrugs. “Besides, if you’re so sure you will win… what’s there to lose, Zelda?”
“You planned this.” She glares at him. Of all everyone that has been urging her to take a break, Link has been loudest. He is her closest friend, however, and it is not unusual for him to resort to tricks to help her relax more. He has done this once before but the sparring had to stop once he decided he didn’t have to be so gentle with her anymore. Bruises were not a good look for a Queen. Zelda missed their fights. 
He shrugs and hitches a thumb in the general direction of their archery field. “Only you can help decide the outcome.”
“Fine. Challenge accepted.”
She loses after nearly three hours of tying. The small crowd that had gathered raises a ruckus after her defeat and she finds herself flushed at the thought of so many seeing it. Link celebrates regardless of her red face. He threatens to make the arrow he split down the middle a gift for her next birthday then laughs when she scowls at him.
“A terrible loser, eh, Your Highness?” She snatches the arrow from his hand and snaps it with her fingers. Link only grins wider. “So, will you need helping packing or can you handle that?” She stalks away from him and wonders if all those rumors about the hero being terrible at bets meant he was a sore winner. Not a sore loser.
She continues on the rest of her day. Thankfully, it proved quiet and, thankfully, her counselors took the news of her sudden vacation with grace. Servants arrived to help her pack. She’s a little bewildered at the thought that she will away from the castle for two weeks and spends at least half the time writing down contingency plans should anything go wrong in her absence. She knows she can make it back in a day if she rode hard. Yet, despite all of her worrying, she finds that she looks forward to the trip. Link has always been a great companion to her.
They leave in the morning and he’s quiet while they ride.
“Something on your mind, Link?”
“Hm?” His eyes look confused then brighten from the haze of a daydream. “No, nothing important. Just thinking about how it’s been a long while since I just… rode.” A wild expression sets on his face. “Think you’re up for a gallop?” He says it like it’s a request but his tone implies a challenge. 
Zelda urges her steed ahead of his and races away with a smile. Epona does not take long to catch up. They enjoy the thrill of the race. Neither knowing where the finish line is or if there even is one. All Zelda knows is that there’s a fire surging through her veins and just a few hours away from the Castle has washed away the grey that’s soaked into her mind.
They set up camp after dusk hits. Link gets a fire going and heats up the stew the kitchens sent them with. “Anxiety set in yet?”
“I have not thought about the Castle much since we first left.” She admits, accepting the wooden bowl from him. They sit close together against a log while the fire crackles before them. “You have had me playing too many of your silly games.”
“They help pass the time.” Link rolls his eyes. Though he’s relaxed in attitude, Zelda can tell his alert. It took a lot of convincing on his part to allow just the two of them on this journey. Many seem to forget his prowess with weaponry and why he is her General. “You’re rather handy with a slingshot.”
“I would rather that skill then being an expert in insects.”
He makes a face. “Listen, when you grow up in the middle of a forest like I have then you learn about bugs. Can’t be helped that Her Highness is too good for…” He stops, scrunches his nose in though and blurts, “Bug-ology.”
“Entomology.” She corrects and laughs when he sticks his tongue out at her. “Ever the serious and terrifying General.”
“Beats being Queen Stone Face the Wise Ass.” He jibs back and continues his stance as a mature adult that solves his problem by making faces at them. “You’re just mad because I’m finally the expert on something that you know nothing about.”
“I think we both know that this is about.” She says, wondering why her cheeks hurt and realizing it’s because she hasn’t smiled like this in ages.
He glares, playfully. “Go on. Tell me what you think this is about.”
“Last week. The Charity Banquet.” Zelda supplies this and nods her head. She finishes her meal and places the dish next to her. With her now empty hand, she pantomimes holding a wine glass and giggles. She pushes back the silly feeling that rushes over at the sound of her own giggles. “You took a sip of the Holodrum Wine and almost choked!”
“It was awful, Zelda!” Link tosses his bowl into hers and groans. “I’m not a fan of wine but, there we were, we were all dressed up–” He grabs at his tunic and pulls on it for emphasis, “I wore my formal attire. Formal–” Link continues his rant by shaking his finger at her. “And you’re an awful friend that did not warn me that their wine tastes like dish water!”
“No, it did no–”
“Fermented dish water!” His energy collapses and he drop back to rest against the log. Link smiles, gently, after a moment. “I tried so hard to be mad at you for laughing at me.”
“I recall that you were.” Zelda rests her head on her knees and tilts her head so that she can look at him. The fire casts fascinating light across the Hero’s face. She wishes she knew how to draw so that she could capture how he looks at this moment. 
He scratches his nose then meets her gaze. “Just for a second. You’re laughter made up for it.”  He reaches out and lays his palm across her hands which are locked together around her shin. “I miss seeing you… and… I’m glad you came.”
Zelda chooses to ignore the weight hidden in his words. She has done so many times but there’s an intimacy between them at this moment that does not allow her to be flippant. So, she chooses honesty. “I miss you too… and I’m glad I lost the bet.” She expects the rest of the night to be heavy. Keeps waiting for him to say something else… but he doesn’t. Eventually, they fall asleep.
By the next afternoon they arrive. The town erupts into chaos the moment they realize Link is there. Then, they recognize her. Collectively, the town scolds him for not telling him the Queen would be with him then sets to work finding accommodations for them while Link tries to tell them he’s just going to stay at his house with her. Some noise about it “not being proper” and off the villagers go.
Mayor Bo approaches with his usual gust-o and Link starts to get caught up on the many things he’s missed that might not have made it into his letters. Zelda gets over the awkwardness of being both fussed over and ignored. She finds she is content listening to the two men chat before mentioning that she wants to explore.
Link shrugs. “It’s safe here. Go on.” He gives her a brief layout of the village and then steps into the newest looking house in the vicinity. Zelda assumes it’s Ilia’s though she is not absolutely sure.
She’s familiar with most of the residents. She’s been here once before to honor the home from whence the Hero came but that was nearly seven years ago. She follows the small river and relaxes there. Since she was instructed to allow Fado to take her steed, she is somewhat restless now that there seems to be nothing for her to do. 
Beth, one of the children taken during the invasion, runs into her and decides to take her on a more personalized tour. The young girl is more of a young woman at fifteen and she’s matured since Zelda first met her. She holds a conversation well and expresses interest in what Zelda’s role as Queen fully consists of. Zelda recalls after a brief time that King Ralis mentioned fancying the girl.
“Link’s told me before that he’d come back and take all the old village kids traveling around Hyrule. He never seems to have the time though.” Beth ties her long brown hair back and snorts. “I think he, honestly, forgets though, ya know?”
“Have you visited Zora Doman now that you are older?” Zelda asks, dipping her feet into the water as the village girl did. “I have heard Ralis mention you before, you know. I’m sure you and the other boys would be welcome if you managed the journey on your own.”
Beth blushes and shakes her head. “I have and Ralis is… very sweet.” She shuffles as much as one can while sitting. “He even sent guards down to help us. Link was going to come to but… I guess something came up.”
“I am… sorry if it seems like I have stolen away your friend.”
“Oh. no! Don’t be, My Lady– Queen!” The teenager cups her face in her hands. “Sorry, I don’t mean to be so friendly. It’s hard because you’re not dressed up like a Queen and you’re just walking around our village and–”
“Zelda is fine.”
“OH.” Beth groans and takes a moment to calm down. After a few more apologies and more reassurances from Zelda, she continues. “Sorry. I… We’re not really used to titles around here. Or Queens for that matter” She shrugs. “Bo is getting ready to retire and, even with how long he’s been Mayor, we don’t really call him Mayor Bo all the time.” She gently bumps the other woman’s shoulder. “But, uh, don’t you worry about stealing Link away. I doubt he could be apart from you if he tried.”
Zelda’s face must pale or, rather, she feels like all the blood rushes out of her. “I’m sorry?”
Beth laughs at her expression. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. Whatever is between the two of you is private… but, I know Link loves you and if being in that Castle with you is what makes him happy. Well, that’s all we care about here.” The teenager stands and dusts herself off. “Don’t worry. I won’t say anything… it’s just… the way he talks about you in his letters gave it away.” She winks and Zelda wonders how the girl could mistake her paleness for shock of a secret getting out when it’s… plain shock. “I have to go help my momma close up shop. I’ll let Link know where you are.”
She doesn’t walk far before Zelda hears the girl tell the Hero that the Queen is around the corner. They speak in hushed voiced before Zelda makes out a more tense serious of undecipherable words come from the young man. His boots steps crunch on the ground behind her.
“So.” He clears his throat. “I see Beth gave you a tour….”
“You write about me in your letters? To everyone or just Beth?” Zelda’s voice sounds odd in her own ears. She’s still trying to process the sudden fact that this man is in love with her. Her best friend is in love with her. Link is in love with her.
He makes a frustrated noise and drops down next to her. “Yes.” Link tries to capture her eyes in his but she avoids the attempt. “Zelda… I…” His fists clench and unclench. She hasn’t seen him this upset in a long time. “Well, this certainly isn’t how I wanted you to find out.” He frowns. “And no. Not to Beth. To Ilia… but the villagers… they’re close and–”
“It’s… true then?”
He stares at her. “What’s true?” Link growls and his hands can’t seem to make up there mind of whether they want to grab hers or not. “That I love you?” He laughs. “No point in denying it now though I’ll have you know that I had something much more romantic planned than–”
“You know this…” She begins the sentence and makes the mistake of looking into his eyes. It began as a rejection and dies in her throat. Too late, she realizes, that he knows what she is going to say before she even finishes. “Link… I’m…”
“The Queen.” He states it, factually, and there’s a resilience in his gaze that she wasn’t expecting to find. She thought she would see sadness or longing but not refusal. “And I used to be a village boy. Now, I’m your General and as much as I make a fool of myself… I am respected by your peers… and…” He finally takes her hand and it’s warm holding hers. “I do. I love you and if…” He swallows and smiles, gently. “And if you want to make this work. I think we can.”
She opens her mouth and tells herself to be softer with her words. Soft is not generally how she goes about things so, instead, she speaks to him like she always has. Honestly. “I haven’t even thought of the possibility of… us working. I don’t let myself because that is a hard road we would travel–”
“We’ve been though worse.”
“And… this is sudden.”
“He continues, calmly, and Zelda finds she’s annoyed that he’s the calm one. “I’m not asking you to marry me…” He leaves the sentence unfinished but then shrugs. “Yet.” Link squeezes her hand. “I’m only asking that you consider it.”
“I do not want to hurt you and you might get hurt, Link.” Zelda sighs and glares into the water. “I-I admit that… I care for you and your friendship… it means the world to me. I just….” She turns back to him and sees hurt. “So many things could go wrong.” 
“Well.” He releases her hand and stands up. “I’ll admit, I wanted this to go differently… still, I don’t want to ruin our friendship so if that’s how you feel then I will respect that.” He reaches out to help her stand.
“I don’t know how to feel!” She exclaims and bats his hand away. “It’s not easy for me to just say ‘yes, I love you’ or ‘no, I don’t’… there’s so many things that I would have to take into consideration.” She runs her fingers through her hair and shakes her head. “I don’t know what I would do if you weren’t… but… I–” Tears of frustration sprung to her eyes.
Link frowns, kneels down and takes her face into his hands. “If you were just you. Just Zelda. No titles or anything… Do you think you could tell me how you feel?” He smiles. “Honestly.” He thumbs away the tears.
Honesty. She takes a breath and answers, shakily. “If we were just two ordinary people then I would tell you… I would tell you that I adore you. That… I see you in heavy romantic light… and that, could, turn into love.” She swallows. “That I could… love you.”
Link nods and smiles, gently. So gently. “So, what if we took these two weeks to be just Link and Zelda? And if we enjoy our time as just us… and we talk about the complications of our titles… we see if this works?”
“That’s a gamble.”
“I know.” He smirks. “Kiss for good luck?”
She takes a breath. She ignores that voice in the back of her head telling her everything that could go wrong and, instead, flicks him in the nose. “I’m not ready to kiss you. I’m too upset.”
He grins and helps pull her to her feet. “Then let’s go back to my house and get ready for tonight.”
“What’s tonight?” She blinks at him, feeling shaky still after the emotional adventure she’s still experiencing. 
Link shrugs. “The village wants to feed us and I promised them that I would make a couple pies. I thought you might want to help.” He winks. “And I bet you’ll only burn one.”
She scowls at him. “I have never burnt a pie.”
“Prove it.”
They continue like this for the next three days.When not visiting with Ilia and the baby, they take turns challenging each other to various contests and, even getting the village in one it, before they realize that they’re avoiding the topic. When they settle down into his old home on the fourth night, Zelda leans her head against his shoulder and tells him how much she’s enjoyed spending time with him. How her thoughts haven’t drifted to Hyrule once since she arrived. Some things may have been stressful but she feels relaxed. She tells him that she would like them to do something slower.
He suggests walking to Ordon Spring and, though the night is chill, she agrees. They talk about their childhoods as they have before and all manner of words fall freely between them. As just a man and a woman, Zelda is happy to feel his warm hand tangle their fingers together. She tries not to think about what being a Queen would mean for this. The Spirit does not awaken when they arrive, Link seemed to think that it would but she’s content to lie and watch the stars with him. 
“You know, you would have to clean up your manners… if you were to pursue me.” She murmurs and yet her voice still sounds loud. “You would need to learn the Lords names and not give them numbers to refer to them by.”
“I’m willing to do that.”
“And there might be a backlash. You… are a commoner. Blood matters a lot to royals.”
“If they want to enact old laws upon a potential marriage then I shall do the same.” He smirks. “Trial by Combat always seemed romantic.”
Zelda scowls. “Til death, Link.”
He glances at her and smalls. “Practicing your vows already? My, my.” He laughs when she smacks him, lightly, with the back of her hand. He rolls to his side so that he can look down into her eyes. “I am willing to follow your lead. Whatever is expected, I will try to meet that. I can’t promise perfection… but…” He kisses the back of her hand. “I promise that I…” Link clears his throat. “Will love you through it all.”
“Link?”
“Hmm?”
“I’m ready for you to kiss me now.”
And for better or for worse, he does and Zelda realizes that there’s no going back from this. His lips are soft and his body is warm as he drags her closer. She sighs and doesn’t dare count the odds stacked against them. Gambling is a terrible vice.
