What are the accents in TKP like? And what accent do the TKP& GW LIs have? (Please get valley girl Trace out of my head)
Accents in TKP, much like IRL, depend on two things: phonemes, and regional variation!
Ruzayn has a different accent for every island, though within the last two generations it’s gotten more and more homogenous. Lots of clipped Rs, since there’s no rhotic R (like what you find in US and Canadian English) and consonants from the back of the mouth. People say it sounds like the sea crashing against rocks.
Alandria has several regional accents —
Baquería, spoken very fast, and consonants tend to run together. Very soft Fs, Vs, and Ts.
Tladalaqué, which does have something of a rhotic R akin to the French R, but with a very subtle trill. It’s spoken quite slowly in comparison, to the point where people from Baquería think people from Tladalaqué are talking down to them.
Huidalaqué, which has hard cononants and is closer to it's Iskarian cousin, even having Iskarian loan words. Finally there’s
Hadaría, which is the central part of the country. It’s the baseline Alandrian accent — trilling Rs, a very subtle Sh sound on sibilants like S, and slightly aspirated consonants (T is spoken with a brief burst of air, for instance). People describe it as “airy.”
Iskar is so big that regional accents are a thing and too numerous to count. Universal among Iskarians though is a trilling R, and a glottal D and Q/K spoken in the back of the throat.
The Mani tend to absorb whatever accents are nearby, which leads to different clans having different accents and different people within the clans having different accents depending on who they interact with. There’s no “defined” Mani accent — but Manimeš tends to be high pitched, and spoken with a trilled R. The rhotic R exists in Manimeš, so people tend to round out the beginning of their Ra’s and Ro’s.
Bautista has something of a southern accent. Very subtle coastal Virginian.
Nazeri has a New York accent and their voice could be described as “high-pitched” at times (usually when stressed). They have a very, very subtle Persian accent they picked up from their parents.
Devin is a thick Appalachian drawl.
Trace has whatever accent they want at the time.
Sibir has a Ruz accent, which I would describe as a cross between a Russian and Mongolian accent.
Lisandro, Idali, and Tesias all have Hadarian accents, though Tesias’ is more subtle since they know so many languages.
