#atropos' design is still somewhat incomplete because there are details i want to add#but for the most part their arms and legs are the ones sporting armor (and decadent ones at that)#because their only worth is the part of them that can partake in action. that can kill and chase and maim and just Do#you wouldn't keep an old hound around in a world like this out of pure sentiment - no. it does its job well#and you'll run it's snout into the ground before you lay it to rest#and they don't have armor on their viral organs because they simply do not care if they die. in fact - if there's anything strong enough to#even NICK their vulnerable body parts? they'll count that as a luxury. better to die a soldier's death than to die discarded#alas... no one or thing has been strong enough to truly challenge their lax approach. yet#lachesis is decadent to the max - they sport jewelery of all types. they are gold and ivory. they are glory in every detail#because its human geniusry they're wearing. and they can only bathe in it as an untalented curator indulges in a gallery of masterpieces#maybe if they shroud themself in enough detail then you'll miss the rot in their sclera and hands. the unblinking smile#the 2 faces beneath their veil#clotho is supposed to be a LOT more gaunt than i draw them im still trying to figure them out#as in. they're literally just skin and bones and rot. all their flesh melted off#they swindle themself in simple cloth to portray themself as assuming and innocent#as trustworthy and pure. to hide the sharp edges beneath linen#they take such strong inspiration from a character inspired by plague doctors despite being an obstetrician#they save lives. in every way of the word. they midwife to birthing mothers and they expel sickness and disease#and they bring your dying self back from the dead. not truly. not wholly. but still - you still serve some use.#theirs is not the sanctity of life. but rather the utility of it

As the inventor did her work, the black hound who sat beside her watched the stranger closely. Neptune knew the not-so-dead man was unnerved by him. Good. That would keep him from attempting to do anything to harm his charge. Ikkaku was still a good soul despite the world she'd been born into. Not pure, of course, because no one walked through a dirty world like this and remained clean, but she still had goodness within her. Good intentions, good thoughts, good heart.
Neptune wouldn't let a devil-touched corpse like this harm her. He'd handle this later, though. Away from his girl's sight, so she wouldn't have to watch him do his old duties. It would just give her more nightmares than she already had.
Meanwhile, Ikkaku remained tense as she watched the man check his gun, eyes following where the barrel pointed, any twitch of the trigger finger, the slightest possibility that he might turn that gun on her. Because if he shot her, she wasn't really certain anyone but Neptune and Gramps would give a shit, even with so many witnesses.
Yet instead, the man holstered his gun and asked about how she fixed it. Which was a rather sensible question. The magnet had been a rather odd thing in gun repair. She expected him to sound accusatory, or glare at her, or even just walk off without a word now that he got what he wanted. But his smirk was charming, and his voice was...not necessarily kind, but nicer than anyone in town ever addressed her with. And he did seem to be genuinely curious.
"I ah, was doing some experiments earlier," Ikkaku explained, one hand fiddling with her tools while the other buried itself in Neptune's thick fur for comfort. That, and to calm the dog down. He seemed rather tense around this man, but not in the usual way like with the townsfolk. "I was working with electromagnetic fields. I won't bore you with the details, but they ended up being stronger than expected. You must've been near my workshop or somethin' when it happened. Anyway, the magnet I just used should have canceled that out, undoing the jamming and stuff."
Biting her lip, she nervously looked up into gold, watchful eyes. "I'm sorry for the trouble. I really didn't mean it. If you're mad I...I can make it up to you, maybe? Check any other guns you might have, or you could have some of my own oil supply? The stuff Gramps gets delivered is a lot less shit."
Beside her, Neptune gave what sounded like a disdainful huff. Ikkaku gave him a pacifying scratch behind the ears. He was a distrustful dog, which was understandable, given how the townsfolk treated her. But she had fucked up, so it was best she make it right for this stranger. Perhaps if she kept showing kindness, she'd finally receive some in return.
