To the tiktok video I can no longer find that said that Joe and Rhys are in a Fight Club or Mister Robot kind of situation and had me re-watching all of s4 part 1 and realizing they never actually interact with witnesses except for that one dinner scene where Joe answers Rhys and everyone looks at him like he's crazy and noticing that every murder was committed while Joe was conveniently unconscious (which could easily be a black out) and now I can't get this theory out of my head, you owe me a nights sleep
Seriously, the articles all over the wall, the conveniently vanishing texts, Malcolm's ring in his pocket, yes they could all be Rhys, but they could just as easily be Joe losing his marbles, in which case his obsession with Rhys the way he imprinted on him after reading his book and his resolve to "bring him down" becomes even more sinister. And it brings a new dimension to Rhys supposedly looking into Joe's soul from their very first interaction, like that could be a monster recognizing another, or just Joe being so desperate for companionship and recognition and someone to see and acknowledge him that he makes that someone up, and that someone is the underdog with a horrific childhood whose autobiography he's just read and who he feels is his kindred spirit. Joe may not have gone to college like Rhys, but between Beck's friends, the Quinns and now Kate's friends he's constantly hanging out with rich assholes who look down on him and thinks to himself "this Rhys and I have a lot in common" and the obsession grows and turns into this fuckery and now the Joe x Rhys is even more tragic to me and
Anyway I'm spiraling now thanks

Joe, a literal serial killer: no way I’m killing one of those birds on this hunting trip. Its inhumane
Roald: shoots a bird

YOU S4 PT2 SPOILERS
i called it. i fucking called it. joe was obsessed with rhys. joe was obsessed with the idea that he could be like him. that he can be him. he was completely infatuated and i hated that we didn’t get to see more of that because of how stuck he was with kate. but rhys has been the most “influential”, in a sense, out of all the people he’s have a crazy obsession over. this could either be for two reasons, either because his mental health was already on the decline, or simply because he was obsessed with the idea that rhys and him could have had this connection.
i mean, come on. the lines they were telling each other (albeit rhys being fake), it was so fucking sus. we know what you are, joe. rhys’ dialogue was essentially all of joe’s. joe has got some explaining to do. anyway, throughout the whole season, despite rhys not being real, he has made himself believe that they’re this murderous duo that needs to do whatever they can in order to keep their motives: marienne and kate. this, of course, comes at the cost of the real rhys. because unless joe does something about his issue w women, joe and rhys could have never had anything (💔).
tldr joe’s gay as hell thinking of rhys this way
