#you made me realize why I get along with my pest control guy 😭

not quite the same vibe‚ but i actually just started working in commercial pest control‚ and i’ve gotten a few comments and questions amounting to “why?”. but first they usually say something like “oh you like killing mice and bugs”. and i respond “no actually‚ i don’t. i love animals‚ all animals‚ even and especially the ones that the majority of the human population seems to hate with vitriol”. the conversation topic gets awkward then‚ and changed. so i don’t get the chance to elaborate: “humans are animals too‚ and i do this job to protect them‚ and keep the places where we make‚ store‚ process‚ and ship our food out clean and sanitary. i love mice and bees and wasps and spiders and rats and pigeons. and this job is more about preventing pest entry in the first place‚ rather than killing them after. and even when it does come to that‚ better that it is done quickly‚ and humanely‚ by someone who understands the gravity of taking even a small life‚ and treats it with the respect it deserves. that’s why i do this job and i don’t appreciate being treated like a degenerate for trying to keep *you personally* from getting preventable diseases‚ and taking this job seriously.” people have such weird hang-ups about death and disease, and then get even weirder when they find someone who doesn’t.
